Ondo NYSC: Akeredolu promises support for projects at orientation camp

The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has pledged to mobilize support for the various developmental projects going on at the Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.

Expressing his excitement over the projects, he commended the state co-ordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, and her management team for the giant strides.

Akeredolu made the promise while performing the foundation laying of the extension of the Orientation Broadcasting Service, OBS, Studio in the course of the swearing in ceremony for the 2019 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 11) corps members deployed to Ondo State.

The governor said the projects embarked upon by the NYSC were going to have positive effects on corps members.

He called on the people of Ondo State to complement the efforts of the NYSC in the state.

Meanwhile, Akeredolu charged the newly inducted members of the NYSC family to strive to leave a legacy that would have positive impact on the people of Ondo State.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Dotun Owanikin, said the state government would not compromise on the security and welfare of the members of the service corps.

“As a responsible government, I want to say, without mincing words that your welfare and security would be adequately taken care of during your service year,” he said.

To encourage those who might want to stay back in Ondo State at the end of the service year, the governor said that his government would continue to improve on developmental projects and infrastructures that were on going at all the nooks and crannies of the state.

Earlier in her address, Akpabio said that the orientation course was packaged to introduce the corps members to the objectives and programmes of the NYSC scheme.

Akpabio further explained that the course was meant to prepare the members of the service corps for the challenges of the service year as well as acquaint them with the new socio-cultural of their new environment.

She admonished them to participate actively in all camp activities and comport themselves as mature youths.

“Endeavour to cooperate with camp officials and obey all rules and regulations governing your stay in camp and do not hesitate to approach any of my officers in case you need any assistance or clarification especially with regards to the verification/registration,” she said.

The NYSC boss used the opportunity to encourage the local governments, corporate citizens and well-meaning Nigerians and philanthropists as well as other stakeholders to make their presence felt in the camp.

1,535 prospective corps members made up of 836 males and 699 females swore to Oath of Allegiance administered by the Chief Judge of Ondo State who was represented by Justice Ademola Enikuomeyin of Akoko Judicial Division.
