Today, as you celebrate your 50th birthday, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude on a friendship that began over four decades ago and has remained one of the enduring blessings of my life.
Our journey started as young boys at St. John’s Primary School, Afao, Ikere-Ekiti. At the time, we could not have imagined where life would take us or that the friendship formed within those school walls would survive the years, distance, responsibilities, and changing seasons of life. We were simply children learning, playing, dreaming and growing together. But those early days laid the foundation for a relationship that has continued to stand the test of time.
From our childhood years, I have watched you grow into a man of character, caring, compassion, commitment, and responsibility. What makes our friendship particularly special to me is not merely the number of years we have known each other, but the quality of the relationship we have built over those years. You have remained a dependable friend, someone I could count on not only in moments of celebration, but also when life presented its challenges. In many ways, you have stood firmly with daring support for me.
Temitope, your support for my career has been remarkable. At different stages of my professional journey, you have encouraged me, believed in my abilities, and offered support in ways that have made a meaningful difference. Your confidence in what I do has often served as a reminder that genuine friendship goes beyond sharing good memories; it also means standing behind one another’s dreams and aspirations.
Beyond my career, you have also been supportive of my life generally. You have been there with words of encouragement, practical assistance, and wise counsel. Each time we see each other or speak on the phone, you are more concerned about my health challenges.
Fifty years is more than a milestone; it is a testimony. It is a testimony of God’s faithfulness, the journey you have travelled, the lives you have touched, and the relationships you have nurtured. Looking back from where we started at St. John’s Primary School, Afao, it is remarkable to see how far we have come.
As you enter this new chapter, my prayer is that the years ahead will bring you greater fulfilment, sound health, peace, wisdom and abundant blessings. May you continue to find favour in all your endeavours, and may your life produce even greater impact on your family, career, community and beyond.
Temitope, thank you for being more than a childhood friend. Thank you for being a brother, a dependable ally, and one of those people whose presence has added meaning to my journey through life.
