The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced that the Central Admissions Processing System, CAPS, which was temporarily unavailable for the past 96 hours, has been fully restored.
The board made the announcement directed to candidates, tertiary institutions and other stakeholders on Monday.
According to it, the system had become fully restored and operational on Sunday, 27th September, 2026.
The board expressed regret over the inconvenience the temporary unavailability of the platform might have caused candidates, institutions and other stakeholders.
JAMB said it recognised the importance of CAPS to the admission process and appreciated the patience and understanding of all stakeholders during the period of the disruption.
The board consequently urged all institutions to immediately accelerate their admission processes to recover the time lost during the period of the disruption and ensure compliance with the admission deadlines agreed at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions.
It would be recalled that the board had earlier informed the public that the temporary unavailability of CAPS was due to an administrative challenge involving its hosting organisation.
The board had also assured stakeholders that it was working with the relevant service providers to restore the platform and ensure its stability.
With CAPS now fully operational, institutions are expected to intensify their admission processes, while candidates are equally advised to promptly accept admission offers made to them.
This is necessary to ensure that the agreed admission timelines are met.
The board said at the 2026 Policy Meeting, stakeholders agreed that admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session should be concluded according to the following timelines:
- Public Universities: on or before 31 October 2026
- Private Universities: on or before 30 November 2026
iii. Other Tertiary Institutions: on or before 31 December 2026.
Consequently, all admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session are expected to be concluded by 31 December 2026.
Following the recent release of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, results by the National Examinations Council, NECO, the board said it particularly urged universities, especially public universities, to intensify their admission processes and make effective use of the remaining period to meet the 31 October 2026 deadline.
Private universities are similarly expected to work towards concluding their admissions by 30 November 2026, thereby allowing other categories of tertiary institutions sufficient time to complete their admission processes by the end of December.
The board assured stakeholders that, as institutions accelerated their admission processes, JAMB would match the pace through the prompt consideration and approval of admission recommendations submitted through CAPS.
Candidates who were awaiting the release of their NECO results were advised to immediately upload and/or verify their results to ensure that their credentials were available for consideration as institutions intensify their admission processes.
Beyond the immediate restoration of the platform, the Board is also putting in place measures to further strengthen the resilience, stability and reliability of CAPS.
These include medium- to long-term redundancy and business-continuity measures designed to reduce dependence on any single hosting or service environment and minimise the risk and impact of future disruptions.
JAMB assured that it remained committed to building systems that worked reliably for the people it served.
While the board regretted the inconvenience caused by the recent disruption, it appreciated the patience of candidates, institutions and other stakeholders and assured them that lessons from the incident would be applied to strengthen the platform and improve the overall admission experience.
