The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has directed members of the Super Falcons’ technical crew to step down with immediate effect.
The federation announced the decision on Monday through its official social media platform, X, @thenff.
“The Executive Committee had asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the NFF posted.
The decision follows the Super Falcons’ disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, in Morocco.
Nigeria entered the tournament as defending champions, seeking to retain the continental title and reaffirm their dominance in African women’s football.
However, their campaign ended in disappointment, with the team failing to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The failure marks the first time Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup since the competition was inaugurated in 1991.
The development represents a significant setback for the Super Falcons, who have traditionally been a dominant force in African women’s football.
The team’s failure has consequently prompted the NFF to seek a fresh technical direction ahead of its next major international assignment.
The federation now faces the urgent task of appointing a new technical team capable of rebuilding the Super Falcons.
Nigeria’s immediate priority will be the 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign, which is scheduled to begin in October.
The Super Falcons are expected to face Comoros in their opening Olympic qualifying fixture.
The NFF will therefore need to move quickly to resolve the coaching situation and ensure adequate preparations for the qualifiers.
A prolonged technical vacuum could further disrupt preparations and deepen concerns surrounding the team’s recent decline.
The federation’s decision signals a major shake-up as Nigeria seeks to restore the Super Falcons’ competitiveness ahead of future international competitions.
