The Police Command in Ondo State has arrested a suspect, identified as Samuel Akoade, in connection with the killing of a 60-year-old woman, Mrs Olufunke Amoo, in Ore, Odigbo local government area of the state.
The arrest was announced on Monday in Akure in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
Jimoh said that the deceased was found in the pool of blood at her residence on Sunday when operatives of the command received a report on the incident.
He said that preliminary information revealed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.
“Following the report, police operatives from Ore Division immediately mobilised to the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigation.
“A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while the scene was photographed and documented.
“The suspected assailant, initially identified simply as Samuel, was reported to have fled the scene before the arrival of the police.
“Following sustained efforts by the operatives, Samuel Akoade was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody,” Jimoh said.
He added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary.
Jimoh also said that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Akure, for further investigation.
He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.
Jimoh reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and useful information to the police, particularly on suspicious activities within their communities.
