The Companion, an association of Muslim men in business and the professions, has expressed excitement over the rescue of teachers and students of Oriire local government area of Oyo State who were abducted on May 15.
The felicitation was expressed in a statement by the group’s president, Imam Nojeem Jimoh and publicity secretary, Prof. Tunde Akanni.
The group extended its heartfelt congratulations to the 44 victims, their families, the people and government of Oyo State, and all well-wishers who fervently prayed and worked for the rescued
The Companion particularly commends the federal government and the members of the various security and hybrid forces whose courage, professionalism and sacrifice contributed to this successful operation.
While celebrating the development, The Companion strongly cautioned Nigerians against lowering their guard.
“The release of the victims should not create a false sense of security. Rather, it should reinforce the need for greater vigilance, community cooperation and intelligence sharing,” it said.
The Companion also called on governments at all levels to demonstrate greater accountability and transparency in the utilization of public resources appropriated for security.
It said Nigerians rightly expected measurable improvements in the nation’s security architecture.
The Companion equally appealed to religious leaders across the country to remain steadfast partners in the promotion of peace and national security.
Places of worship should continue to inspire patriotism, peaceful coexistence and respect for lawful authority, rather than become platforms for messages or actions that could undermine public safety or embolden criminality.
“Furthermore, we urge the Nigerian media to accord greater priority to conflict-sensitive journalism. At a time when merchants of violence exploit sensational narratives and inflammatory content to advance their destructive agenda, the media have greater responsibility to promote accuracy, restraint and peace-building. Journalism must continue to serve as a force for national cohesion rather than inadvertently amplify the voices of self-serving anarchists who thrive on violence and social disorder,” the group said.
It prayed that Almighty Allah should grant President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sound health, wisdom and divine guidance as he leads Nigeria towards lasting peace, security and sustainable development.
“May Allah continue to protect our nation and bless all those who daily put their lives on the line in defence of Nigeria,” the group prayed.
