The police in Lagos have arrested 71 persons for violating COVID-19 protocols.
The people were arrested during a raid of some club houses in Lekki and Surulere areas of the state on January 3, at about 3.00 a.m.
Also, 11 vehicles were impounded for violating the 12 midnight to 4 a.m. curfew and two vehicles for driving against the traffic.
According to the spokesman of the police command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday, the arrests were carried out in fulfilment of the vow to enforce COVID-19 orders in the state.
The clubs raided by the taskforce, Adejobi said, included Folix Club, Lekki and Bench Bar, Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere, Lagos State.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered the immediate trial of the suspects and necessary sanctions for the owners of the impounded vehicles.
He further directed that officers and men of the command must intensify efforts on total compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols as rolled out by the Presidential Taskforce and the Lagos State government.
