President Muhammadu Buhari has warned members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, not to allow those who allegedly brought the country to its knees to return to office in 2019.
The statement was in allusion to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which was in power at the national level from 1999 to 2015.
The president gave the warning on Wednesday when he submitted his nomination form for the position of the president on the platform of the APC.
He said the APC should strategise and avoid being complacent to be able to win the 2019 election.
“Let me today appeal to party members not to be complacent but to prepare, strategise and win in 2019 elections. We must not allow those who brought the country to its knees from 1999 to 2015 to come and take us back,” the president said.
The president stated that he was seeking re-election with humility and desire to serve and protect the interests of all Nigerians.
He thanked the Nigerian Consolidation Ambassadors Network (NCAN) for buying the form for him, just as he gave the assurance that he would serve the country with all his might.
“I am very grateful to those dozens of organisations who have joined together and contributed funds to purchase these forms. I assure them and the rest of Nigerians that, if nominated and if elected, I shall continue to serve you to the best of my ability,” he said.
