Two docked over alleged impersonation on Facebook

Two persons – Abiola Festus, 28, and Hammed Oladapo, 27 – were on Friday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan over an alleged impersonation on Facebook.

The duo, whose addresses were not provided, are standing trial for impersonation, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Femi Omilana told the court that the defendants committed the offences on October 16, at about 9.00 a.m., at Ogungbade area of Ibadan.

He alleged that Festus, with the intent to defraud, falsely posed on Facebook as a white lady, Garcia Ruth, living in the United States of America.

Omilana also alleged that Oladapo falsely posed as one Jillian Nicole, living in the United States of America, with the intent to defraud people.

He said that the offences contravened Section 484 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendants.

She adjourned the case until December 22, for hearing.
