Troops rescue poly rector, 28 others from kidnappers

Troops of the Nigerian military have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda.

The troops also rescued his wife, two children and 25 other kidnap victims during a foiled abduction attempt in Zamfara.

This is contained in an operational report made available on Wednesday.

According to the report, troops of CSI Battalion VI/Combat Team 2 under Operation Fansan Yamma responded to the incident at about 1.30 a.m. on July 28 at Barkeji Village in Kaura Namoda local government area of Zamfara.

It stated that the troops successfully rescued the 29 victims after engaging the kidnappers.

The report, however, said that one member of a local security outfit was killed, while a civilian sustained injuries during the encounter.

It added that one suspected terrorist was arrested and was currently in military custody for further investigation.

The report also said troops under Operation Safe Haven responded to a terrorist attack on Gimti Jarawa Village in Mangu local government area of Plateau at about 9.40 p.m. on Tuesday.

It said the troops rescued four victims with gunshot wounds and evacuated them to hospital for medical treatment.

The report added that troops foiled another kidnapping attempt at Hottom Village in Bokkos local government area of Plateau, rescuing a victim along with a motorcycle before reuniting the person with the family.

The report further said that troops responding to suspected kidnap activities at Ungwan Zange Village in Sanga local government area of Kaduna at about 1.00 a.m. on Wednesday, discovered that the attackers had shot an adult male and abducted his two children.

It added that efforts were ongoing to track the kidnappers and rescue the abducted children.
