Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a former Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gusau, Dr Hassan Abubakar Augie, and his son.

The father and son, preliminary investigation by the Nigerian Army revealed, were abducted by armed bandits Thursday night from their residence and taken into the forest.

They were however rescued upon arrival of the troops.

The Nigerian Army explained that on August 11, 2023, Troops of Sector 1 Operation Hadarin Daji deployed at Forward Operating Base Mada in Zamfara State, while on routine patrol along Shemori-Yandoto Road at Marke general area encountered an unspecified number of armed bandits.

The troops were said to have engaged the bandits in a fire fight for several hours.

The bandits later bowed to the troops’ superior fire power and fled in disarray into the forest along the area.

The troops were said to have immediately gone in hot pursuit of the bandits into the forest, forcing them to abandon two persons earlier abducted.

Two operational motorcycles of the fleeing bandits were also recovered.
