Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 1 Brigade Quick Response Force, QRF, have repelled a terrorist attack and recovered arms and motorcycles during a follow-up operation in Maru local government area of Zamfara.

The announcement is contained in an operational report made available on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the report, the operation was conducted in collaboration with troops of Combat Team 1 and Forward Operating Base, FOB, Kanoma.

The report stated that the troops responded to the attack on Kanoma District at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday and engaged the terrorists at Kanoma Hill.

It stated that the troops overwhelmed the assailants with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat from the area.

According to the report, two tyres of a Combat Support Kit vehicle belonging to FOB Kanoma were damaged during the exchange of fire.

The report, however, noted that the damage did not affect the operation as troops sustained pressure on the fleeing terrorists.

It added that troops subsequently conducted exploitation operations ahead of Kanoma Hill and encountered suspected terrorists riding on two motorcycles.

The troops immediately engaged the suspects, neutralising one terrorist during the pursuit operation.

Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine loaded with four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and two motorcycles.

The report added that no casualty was recorded among the troops during the operation.
