The Lagos State government through the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools, SCRPS, in conjunction with the Lagos State Safety Commission today, extended its safety precaution campaign to train schools principals and head teachers on safety measure at construction sites.
According to the Head, Public Affairs, SCRPS, Mr. Abayomi Oladapo, the training was carried out at the on–going redevelopment of the Tolu Schools Complex at Ajegunle in Ajeromi-ifelodun local government area of Lagos State.
He said in a statement issued at the one-day training, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, reiterated the commitment of the Sanwo-Olu led administration to improving the standard of education in the state.
All-Balogun added that the journey of the redevelopment of Tolu School Complex, started last year, when the governor approved the total redevelopment of the schools within the complex.
He expressed satisfaction at the extent of work done at the various sites in the complex, stressing that, since his visitation last year, a lot of improvement had taken place, as new school buildings are now springing up and massive rehabilitation works on defective structures are currently in progress.
The commissioner charged the schools principals and head teachers to imbibe the safety measures being taught at the workshop, and also extend same to the students who are more prone to injuries.
He stressed that the essence of the safety training was to avert casualties among the students while construction work is on-going at the various schools within the complex.

The commissioner commended the efforts and support the governor is giving to the education sector in the state.
He, however, appealed to the principals and head teachers to reciprocate the gesture by discharging their duties diligently, which will surely impact positively on the students.
He charged them to ensure that teachers discharged their responsibilities passionately by imparting quality education in the pupils which will in turn yield good results in their various examinations, noting that that would eventually make the state proud.
He expressed his joy and satisfaction that Lagos State government had not recorded any casualty at site since the commencement of the projects nine months ago, assuring that the administration would continue to give the needed support to the teachers in terms of staff welfare and other amenities to improve their wellbeing.
In the same vein, the Chairman, Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools, Mr Hakeem Smith, revealed that the Tolu School Complex sits on 11.73 hectares of land and harbours 31 secondary schools and five primary schools with a total population of about 19,714 students.
He stressed that with the enormity of construction work going on in the complex, it required a very thorough project management efforts in which safety measures adherence was one of them.
He appealed to the principals and head teachers to uphold the different safety measures reeled out to them by the facilitator from the Lagos State Safety Commission so that the students could be protected from the construction sites hazards.
He added that that would also assist the contractors in the delivery of the projects in ample time.
He mentioned that the principals and head teachers would now be adopted by the Lagos State government as SCRPS Safety Ambassadors.
Safety kits like helmets, vests and boots were handed over to them.
Other guests at the occasion were the Executive Chairman of Ajeromi-ifelodun Local Government, Hon Fatai Adekunle Ayoola, and the ANCOPSS chairman of the local government amongst others.
