The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has assured Nigerian youth that in spite of challenges facing the country, there is hope for the youth.

He also urged them to take advantage of opportunities available to them to become self-reliant.

The deputy governor spoke at a National Youth Symposium with the theme “Nigeria: Guiding the youth on the path to self-reliance” to celebrate his 60th birthday held in Lagos.

Hamzat said Nigerian youth should see beyond present national challenges and take advantage of the country’s numerous opportunities, noting that youths had continued to excel in science, medicine, and music among others at the world stage.

The deputy governor further said the advent of the Internet had presented global opportunities to youths to excel and urged them to learn how to manage their time and resources to become more successful.

“We must engage and encourage our youth. These are pivotal moments in Nigeria. Many have lost hope in reversing negative trends. It’s not right that our youths have no future. I am upbeat and optimistic about this country because of our youth.

“Our music keeps the world dancing. Creativity in technology by our youths has soared very high. Your stars keep shining in the world of football. Nigerians are heading everywhere in the world. We must not allow negativity to define us, we must define ourselves. I salute the courage, resilience and tenacity of our young people,” he said.

He admitted that the country was facing socio-economic challenges and insecurity but despite the issues, he noted that foreigners were coming into the country to invest and make money.

“Our problems are surmountable and there are opportunities there. What is it that foreigners are seeing that we are not seeing? We must shine our eyes. We must look back at our history. Our youths are very dynamic,” Hamzat said.

In his contribution, the former Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, while speaking on the topic, “Why are we here” said despite the challenges in the country, there were many untapped resources for youths to be self-reliant.

“You are not looking at any individual, you are looking at your own resourcefulness and resilience to take you through. The youths must learn not to depend on the system around them but on their own resourcefulness and resilience,” he said.

He urged the youth to emulate the deputy governor by being exemplary in their dealings.

“The deputy governor is an exemplary leader embodied by education. Government should remove obstacles that prevent youths from accessing resources of the land. It should not be only for the children of the rich. Nigerian youths should have access to these resources,” Fagbohun added.

He further urged the youths to make use of the knowledge garnered at the symposium to better their lives and the country.

“In a country as diverse as Nigeria and regions, Nigerian youth here should recognize that they are representing other youths. The knowledge you gain here, share it on various platforms, resonate it. Knowledge shared will improve you and deepen your knowledge,” he said.

Speaking during the symposium, the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, said availability of land for agricultural purposes had been a challenge in the state and there were measures to ease access to land.

READ ALSO: Tinubu appoints governing board of North West Devt Commission

Olusanya said the state was developing organised markets to ensure even farmers from other states would tap into the opportunities.

She said the state government had put in place various programmes and competitions to empower youths in the agriculture sector.

“We have done capacity building and provided entrepreneurial support for the youth in the agricultural sector. If you want success in the agricultural space, you must have youths that are capable and have the skills to scale up the food production. We need to push for those who have agricultural qualifications.”

She added: “We have continually trained the youths especially those who did not have agricultural skills, supported and empowered them.

“Going forward, a lot will change as we try to make lands available for youths to do agriculture. We are giving the youths opportunity to push their products in the market space without the middle men.”

An IT expert, Dr. Stanley Muoneke, called on youths to learn various IT skills to explore opportunities to make them succeed.

He said knowledge was important but that there was a need for youths to have mentors and coaches to make them face the challenges that the sector might present to them.

Muoneke challenged the youths to do self-assessment of themselves to be able to determine their areas of strength.

“There should be self-assessment. The youths need to know what they are good at. You should get skills in the area you are interested in. You should network to build your skills. They must learn communication and teamwork. They should produce IT products that can solve problems.

He further urged them to embrace failure with a positive mindset and build relationships, adding that they must also be ready to sow their seeds rather than eating every of their income.

The Executive Secretary, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, said knowledge was key to success.

He also urged them to stop complaining about the economy and seize the opportunities existing within the same economy.

An entrepreneur, Dr. Funmilola Tella, called on youths to invest in themselves and their money in profitable ventures, while a youth entrepreneur and shoemaker, Ms Zainab Alayande, said knowledge of any field of interest was important to succeed.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, said youths must believe in themselves and be ready to accept opposition as a force for success.

Ogunlende added that the ministry had continued to engage critical stakeholders to ensure youths in Lagos had a voice and the opportunity to execute their ideas.

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday, praised the peace and tranquility across the state, saying the conduct of the people of the state during the first day of the anti-hunger protest was commendable.

Abiodun particularly commended the youths and students for shunning the protest.

According to the governor, there was no protest in the state as they hearkened to the advice of the state government not to allow themselves to be used by frustrated politicians.

“I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation to our vibrant youths, dedicated students, and all the citizens of Ogun State for the exemplary manner in which you conducted yourselves by shunning the nationwide protests. This is a testament to your commitment to justice, unity, and the betterment of our society.

“I commend each and everyone of you for your discipline and resolve in ensuring that our state remained peaceful. Your ability to stand firm in your convictions while maintaining order and respect is commendable. It is a reflection of the maturity and responsibility that our youth embody.

“I am particularly grateful that by your actions, you did not allow hoodlums or any elements to turn our state into a war zone. This shows not only your strength in numbers but also your strength of character. You have sent a powerful message that our voices can be heard without resorting to violence or destruction,” he said.

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used by confused movement sponsored by frustrated politicians who do not mean well for the nation.

Governor Abiodun also said that there was no need for the planned nationwide protest, coming up in August as there was room for youths to engage and dialogue with the government constructively.

The governor, who spoke at the 22nd undergraduate and 13th postgraduate convocation ceremonies of Babcock University, Ilishan, Ikenne Local Government Area, for the award of Degrees, Prizes and conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees, noted that the country had not gained anything meaningful from past protests.

“Which investor will be attracted to a nation that is under siege by protesters? Please, do not allow yourselves to be used by a so-called leaderless movement, sponsored by frustrated politicians who tried in the past and lost. We do not need protests. We must not gamble with our democracy. Let us dialogue.

“This current wave of inflation is biting everywhere. It is in the UK, US, Ghana, and Egypt. So, it is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.

“I seize this opportunity to appeal to our youths to constructively engage with government in finding lasting solutions to Nigeria’s problems, rather than engaging in protest that may start peacefully but usually get hijacked and may lead to anarchy.

“What have we ever gained from protests, except losses in productivity. Loss of lives, loss of private and government properties, looting and vandalisation of assets,” he said.

Abiodun added that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had to take bold and decisive steps to put the economy back on the track, adding that the government had been in office for just one year.

“This government has only been in office for one year. Cutting off the head is not the solution to a headache.

“Inflation is worldwide. Our president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had very little choices when he came into office. He had to take the bull by the horn; he had to remove the subsidy. He had to float the Naira. Otherwise, it would have been worse, trust me.

READ ALSO: Police confirm death of three labourers in Jigawa building collapse

“This administration has initiated a lot of interventions to cushion the effect of the inflation. Recently, we’ve had the introduction of minimum wage. We’ve had a lot of empowerment. Student loans are in place. Agric and fertilizer input are being given to our farmers. Food palliatives have also been provided, amongst others,” he added.

Governor Abiodun described Babcock University as a beacon of academic excellence and innovation, noting that the institution alongside others in the state were the reason behind the Gateway State being regarded as the education capital of the country.

He noted that the institution is renowned for its commitment to research, innovation and community service, producing graduates that are intellectually equipped, morally and spiritually empowered to make impacts in the country, urging the graduates to be good ambassadors of their alma-mata.

Abiodun, while noting that the state under his watch would continue to prioritize education, promised that his administration would also continue to encourage genuine participation to provide quality, affordable education to the teeming youths in the state.

While congratulating the 2,842 graduates of the institution, Governor Abiodun charged them to continue to chase their dreams and never stop to learn and continue to believe in their abilities.

Earlier in his remarks, Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, expressed his happiness at the honour extended to Chief Wole Olanipekun, saying that the awardee was one of the best from Ekiti State.

The highlight of the event was the award of N2.5 million to the best graduating student, Ifoghale Elomezino Oghenemairo, from the Department History and International Relations with a CPGA of 4.89.

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has appealed to Nigerian youths to constructively engage the government in finding lasting solutions to Nigeria’s problems rather than engaging in protests that could cause more harm to the country.

Abiodun made the appeal when he met with the coalition of youth organisations in the state at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The governor, who recalled the destruction of lives and properties occasioned by the EndSARS protests across the country in 2020, said protests could only aggravate issues without necessarily finding solutions to them.

He said: “And yet again, there are calls for mass protests across the country, and the first thing that agitates one’s mind is, is that the way to present our case to government? Is that the way to constructively and objectively engage with government by advertising and planning mass protests? Is there something behind those who are calling for these protests? Is this another plan by those who have tried their luck and have lost? Is this their own way and shortcut to see how to frustrate the government?

“Young men and women, you have no other country than this country. Let me assure you that I have travelled far and wide. I am sure, like many of you, there is no country in the world where you can walk like your own, that country is Nigeria. There is no other place where nobody will accost you, and you would not challenge that person.

“You cannot go to London and say do you know who I am and the people there will not look at you and say that you have an identity problem. But in Nigeria, you can look at somebody in the face and say “do you know who I am?”

“There is a Yoruba proverb that says ‘beheading is not the solution for an headache’. If there are issues, let us discuss them, let us find a way around them, let us manage and correct them. Let us not cut off the head or attempt to cut off the head because of a headache. That will amount to decapitation,” Abiodun advised.

He said Nigeria, like many countries across the world, was going through difficult time, hence the need for the youths to bring in their vibrancy, zeal, ingenuity, and technical know-how in solving the problems.

The governor acknowledged the maturity displayed by the youths in the state during the EndSARS protests.

He added: “This engagement will not be complete if I do not thank you, the Ogun State youths. I will be ungrateful, and it will be the peak of ingratitude if I do not appreciate your mature conduct during that period.

“I want to remind you that there was EndSARS, when there were protests in different parts of the country, particularly in Lagos, Abuja, and other parts where there were looting, burning and the likes. They were attacking anything attackable, but you, the youths of Ogun State said though we are angry and dissatisfied with the ways things are, we are not criminals, we are not looters, we will not participate in the protest, to that I say a big thank you.”

While taking time to explain some of the policy thrust and the direction of his administration in the last five years, Governor Abiodun said emphasis were placed on Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Wellbeing, Education, Youth Empowerment and Job Creation and Agriculture as encapsulated in the ISEYA mantra.

He said his administration had done well in health, education, infrastructure, and security, which, without them, no meaningful socio-economic development could take place.

Abiodun who also spoke on the recent attacks on his person and administration said: “I normally don’t get disturbed by such things because one of my mentors in politics told me that in politics, you must make sure that you are mentioned either for the right or wrong reasons, but be continuously mentioned because if you are not mentioned, you are just part of the crowd.

READ ALSO: Nigerian singer, Asake, to perform at O2 Arena second time

“For me, I am not bothered that I have been under attacks by faceless people on social media because I know what I am. I know who I am. I know what I did before I became governor. I know how long I have been in this journey. I became a senator before I was 35, the youngest at that time and I have been on this space in the state contesting on different platforms from that time until God decided that He was going to make me a governor and someone would imagine that after all that I had gone through to get to this position, all I will do is to be biting my fingernails. That person must be a joke.

“I became the governor under the most tortuous and most difficult circumstances. I can’t go through that baptism of fire to get to the office and become complacent.

“Our Internally Generated Revenue was around N50 billion a year before. But in four years, we have grown it to almost N200 billion, and someone says Dapo Abiodun is just sitting in Ogun State and doing nothing. That has to be a joke,” the governor stated.

While maintaining that his administration had young brilliant men and women who were contributing their quota for the development of the state, Abiodun said the meeting was to rob minds on the current realities in the country as it affected the youths in the state, calling on them to remain focused and not pay attention to distractions that could jeopardize their future.

Speaking further, Governor Abiodun said that he had to sign an executive order to split the Ministry of Youths and Sports into the Ministries of Sports Development and Youths Development to create an avenue for the proper development of the youth constituency and Sports in the state.

He assured the youths that the Ministry of Youths Development would soon get its own commissioner, who he said would be young, brilliant, and vibrant.

“I believe that it took us a bit of time to formalize the creation of that ministry. When you create a ministry, you must have a permanent secretary and other paraphernalia of office for it to be a ministry.

“Not having a Commissioner for Youths Development is not deliberate or intentional. I want to promise you that you will get that commissioner and that commissioner will be one who will be able to relate with you and also articulate the needs of your generation to the cabinet,” he added.

Speaking earlier, one of the youths, Motolani Oyediji, called for more youth inclusion in government, while the State Chairman, National Youth Council, Kolawole Soremi, called for the appointment of a Commissioner for Youth Development to handle youth related issues in the state and also regular interface between the youth and government to address issues that might cause misunderstanding.

The decision was taken at the first ministerial meeting on youth held from May 20 to 21, 2024 in Bangladesh.

The delegates from the D-8 countries also agreed, in principle, on the draft constitution for establishing the D-8 Youth Council.

They requested all member states to work together with Bangladesh to perfect the constitution.

In the meantime, the ministers also agreed to kickstart the council by organising several programmes.

The meeting, chaired by Mr. Nazmul Hassan, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Bangladesh, also issued the ‘’Dhaka Declaration on Youth’’ 2024.

The declaration encompasses programmes and activities to be organised by the member states to mainstream youth empowerment, within the D-8 framework.

Among the programmes identified were capacity-building for youth in digitalization, skill development, entrepreneurship, and climate resilience actions.

D-8 delegates also mulled the idea of conducting youth exchange programmes, aimed at providing an avenue for sharing best practices and promoting cross-cultural understanding among the young people from the D-8 member states.

In his statement, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, the Secretary-General of the D-8, emphasized that the D-8 Youth Council and the Dhaka Declaration will work in tandem to promote youth empowerment in the D-8’s work.

He argued that with the youth forming a significant proportion of the D-8 population, it was timely to mainstream youth empowerment in the D-8 agenda.

“I am happy that the D-8 established the Youth Council. It has been a long time coming since it was designed in 2021,” added Ambassador Imam.

“I am grateful to the Bangladeshi government for their commitment to hosting the Council.”

A day prior to the ministerial session, Bangladesh also hosted the D-8 Youth Senior Officials’ Meeting, SOM, in Dhaka on 20 May.

The SOM laid the groundwork for the successful hosting of the ministerial session.

Both the ministerial meeting and the SOM also offered their condolences to the people and the Government of the Islamic of Iran on the untimely demise of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who tragically passed away in the tragic helicopter crash on Sunday 19 May.

Nigeria will host the second D-8 Youth ministerial meeting and the SOM in Abuja in 2025.

The D-8 is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1997 by Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Türkiye.

Its primary objectives are to promote the economic performance of the member states in trade, industry, development of small and medium enterprises, tourism, transportation, agriculture, and food security.

Considering the young population of its member states, the D-8 started the mainstreaming of youth empowerment in its work in 2021.

The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the youth as a major force in building a greater and sustainable Lagos, as well as a better future for the nation.

He said that the youth segment was an essential key in the development of any nation, because they had the potential and capacity to make change happen for themselves, their communities and for the rest of the world.

In a statement he issued on Monday in commemoration of the National Youth Day, the governor stressed the importance of youths to building a greater, sustainable Lagos and Nigeria.

Sanwo-Olu explained that the National Youth Day celebration had been set aside to celebrate Nigerian youth and the contributions they made, as well as highlighting issues affecting them with the aim of tackling the issues to support them.

While further revealing that his administration was youth-friendly and inclusive, Sanwo-Olu said: “We have embarked on the implementation of a series of Youth engagements and empowerment activities and programmes through various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“These youth programmes and initiatives are part of the effort to address issues bordering on youth development and empowerment in the entrepreneurial, agriculture, information technology and leadership skills among other facets of life.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu also noted that his administration had implemented mindset changing and reorientation programmes to build the capacity of young people in Lagos State to think positively and take up their role in nation building.

Some of the programmes according to Sanwo-Olu included the Lagos State Youth Leadership Initiative known as the IBILE Youth Academy, which produced Youth Ambassadors that were already making waves as change makers in their communities, implementing various life touching and empowering pet projects leveraging on local collaboration and resources.

He said: “The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund is supporting young people with great entrepreneurship skills and ideas to establish and nurture their businesses on the path of sustainable growth and profitability.

“The agripreneurship programme has created opportunities for young people in the agriculture value chain as well as the Graduate Internship Placement project which we are currently implementing through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.

“Also in the area of Information Technology, the Lagos Codes and Software training programme has upskilled a number of young people within and outside of school in building critical skills demanded in the workplace. We have also witnessed 22 start-ups headed by young people in the areas of agric-tech, ed-tech etc all funded by the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council”.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also revealed that the first Lagos Police Youth Dialogue was recently organised “towards strengthening the relationship between them and creating a synergy that will improve both their interaction and security situation in the State.”

Sanwo-Olu while reaffirming his commitment not to rest on his oars in engaging and empowering the teeming youths in the journey towards a Greater Lagos, advised them to utilise their skills and potentials in significantly rebuilding the state and nation for the best of all the citizens.

Youths in Yewa North have issued a seven day notice to suspected killer herdsmen in Yewa North local government area to leave Ogun State.

Coming under the aegis of Yewa North Patriotic Forum of Ogun State, the youths gave the ultimatum on Friday following the alleged killing of five persons at Owode-Ketu, Egua.

They said the killer herdsmen should await their wrath if after the seven days they remained in the local government.

In a statement by their president, Sanni Omobolaji, the youths said the people of the area had been been living in fear and pain as a result of the killings which could only be traced to herdsmen.

The statement reads: “As responsible young people in Yewa-North, we have tried to ensure that our coexistence works, even when we are the legitimate owners of Yewa land but today’s gruesome killing of five of our people has shown that killer herdsmen can only live in their own world.

“We also use this medium to give a seven days ultimatum within which all killer herdsmen must vacate our local government or face the full anger of grieving people.

“If this ultimatum is taken with levity, we shall stop at nothing in ensuring that all unknown herdsmen are flushed out of our Local Government at the expiration of the seven days ultimatum.

“We are fully ready to take our destiny in our own hands and not wait till the criminal herdsmen successfully wipe off all our promising children and caring parents.

“Now is the best time to dissolve the marriage of inconvenience between our people in Yewa-North local government and the killer herdsmen as we cannot condone these criminals beyond seven days in our domain.”

A new dawn awaits Nigerian youths as well as athletes as the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is planning to create a data base that will serve as reservoir from which opportunities can be accessed.

This would also ensure that proper records are kept to enable youth derive maximum opportunities.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare said the data base would soon be created for the Nigerian Youth to address unemployment, age cheats and counter falsehood.

Speaking during the sixth edition of Town Hall Meeting on Friday, the minister reiterated that there were so many opportunities for jobs, empowerment and training for the benefit of the youth.

He explained that youths should avail themselves of the stream of opportunities and how to get trained.

“For NYIF, it is important to note that the Fund is for youth between ages 18-35. Thus if you are older than 35 years you will have difficulties in completing the application process. From time to time there are minor difficulties in the platform. We have decided to use a better platform which the federal government used to recruit people for previous programmes. This platform makes adjustments, has flexible feature and complaints can be easily taken care of,” he said.

The minister further stated that “if the application is successful, the youth would undergo another process of being trained by Entrepreneur Development Institute, EDI, who are certified trainers.”

He assured that there would be a review of the process of application to train as many people as possible to benefit from the loan.

The governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Wednesday reiterated his administration’s commitment to revamping the state economy through youth empowerment, engagement and development.

This is just as he declared open a one-day interactive forum on youth development tagged “Osun EndSARS Aftermath Stakeholders Engagement,” held at Aurora Conference Centre, Osogbo.

Speaking at the event, the governor said the administration would leave no stone unturned to properly harness the potential of the youth for rapid economic gains.

Oyetola, who described the youth as the hope and future of the nation, said the administration had designed workable Development Agenda which accorded the youth a special priority.

He reeled out some of the youths’ intervention programmes already initiated by his administration, just as he explained that the newly-inaugurated Osun Ethanol Bio-Refinery Factory located in Ayekale, Iragbiji, would employ over 10,000 youths at the beginning of the operation.

The governor further disclosed that the ongoing project of the International Trade Centre/Industrial Hub and Inland Port, Dagbolu was capable of creating massive job opportunities for Osun youths.

“The people, including the youth, are the reason we are in government. Our administration came into office on the shoulders of Development Agenda, a programme carefully created to bring all the sectors and the people into the development net, and to build on the foundation laid by our predecessors to take Osun to higher heights.

“Within two years after coming into office, we have delivered adequate and quality services, projects and programmes across the state in a manner that will sustain the peace in the state, transform the economy, industrialise the state, provide jobs for the people, especially the youth, and provide security and welfare for people.

“On the part of government, we have developed a Youth Policy christened the 4 Es: Youth Empowerment, Youth Engagement, Youth Entrepreneurship and Youth Education. At our Exco meeting two days ago, we ratified the policy document. We shall be unveiling it soon.

“The #EndSARS protest has certainly awoken our youths to their civic power. As stakeholders, we owe it a duty to convert that power to positive advantage.

“We are working assiduously to urgently fashion out ways of not only catering for the interest of our young people in governance but also ensuring their active inclusion in the development process.

“Aforementioned are the efforts we have made and are still making to transform the economy of the state, create jobs for the people and the youths and ensure the good life for all and sundry,” he added.

Oyetola who expressed displeasure at the hijacking of the peaceful protest by unscrupulous elements, urged the residents particularly the major stakeholders, including the traditional rulers, civil society organisations, students, market women, artisans, professionals among others, to join the government in its efforts at maintaining and sustaining the status of Osun as the most peaceful state in Nigeria.

Participants at the stakeholders’ meeting include the youth organisations in the state, traditional rulers, members of civil society organisations, market/traders associations, transporters, religious leaders, academic communities, heads of tertiary institutions, labour union leaders, student community, members of the media, members of the State House of Assembly, ALGON executives, security agents and opinion leaders among others.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has given the assurance that the National Assembly will expand the political space for youth and women in the ongoing amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

Omo-Agege stated this in Abuja when he hosted a delegation of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, led by Archbishop (Prof.) David Irefin.

Omo-Agege who doubles as Chairman, Senate Adhoc Committee on Constitution Review, also called on religious leaders to continue to pray for the country.

While commending Nigerians for their resilience, the Delta Central lawmaker urged them to strive towards maintaining the oneness of the country

He also explained his rationale for sponsoring a constitution alteration bill which seeks to reserve 30 per cent of appointments for youth and women at the federal and state level.

Titled, “A Bill For An Act to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to specify the minimum number of youths and women appointed as Ministers, Ambassadors and State Commissioners”, the proposal has passed Second Reading and is currently before the Omo-Agege-led panel for further legislative work.

Specifically, it amends Sections 147 and 171 of the Constitution by mandating the president to appoint at least five ministers, ambassadors or high commissioners under the age of 40.

Similarly, the proposed legislation alters Section 192 of the Constitution by providing that “There shall be such offices of Commissioners of the Government of the State as may be established by the Governor of the State, of which (a) At least five Commissioners shall not be more than the age of forty years at the time of appointment; and (b) At least five shall be women.”

According to the legislator, if the bill is passed and signed into law, it will not only expand the political space for Nigerian youth but also give them a sense of belonging.

His words: “For us in the National Assembly who are members of the Constitution Review Committee, we are also looking at those areas that require constitution amendment to bring the youth on board into governance. Because we believe that it is best for them to be making the desired change from the inside and take decisions themselves as opposed to being on the streets and protesting.

“That is why I have proposed a bill for constitutional amendment to reserve 30 per cent of seats in the Federal cabinet of every president, going forward, for the youth of this country. And we are also insisting that five of all cabinet seats at the state level be also reserved for youth.”
