This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East).

Uba said the troops of the 120 Task Force Battalion, Goniri, successfully contained and repelled the attacks launched by Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP.

He explained that the attacks occurred between the night of March 9 and the early hours of March 10, when the troops came under assault from multiple directions.

According to him, the terrorists were initially detected through surveillance assets approaching the military location simultaneously from Goniri Village and Ngamdu Junction in an attempt to encircle the camp.

“The gallant troops responded with exceptional manoeuvre and firepower, coordinating their defensive actions while reinforcements and the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided timely and decisive air support,” he said.

Uba said the terrorists were met with overwhelming resistance and were forced to withdraw after suffering heavy casualties.

He said that more than 20 terrorists were neutralised during the firefight, including a senior commander identified as Abu Yusu, who was said to be the Munzir of Dursula.

“Several terrorist bodies were left behind, while troops recovered weapons and equipment abandoned during the retreat, including machine guns, AK-47 rifles, bombs and assorted ammunition of various calibre,” he said.

The spokesman said additional bodies were recovered during follow-up patrols conducted in the general area of Gwaigomari within the Timbuktu Triangle up to the early hours of March 11.

He noted that some sections of the defensive perimeter at the military base were temporarily breached, while structures and vehicles within the camp sustained damage due to the intensity of the attack.

Uba, however, said injured troops had been evacuated and were receiving treatment in stable condition.

He emphasised that the location remained firmly under the control of Operation Hadin Kai troops.

The spokesman added that ground forces, supported by the air component, were conducting follow-up operations and search missions in neighbouring communities where some wounded terrorists were believed to be hiding.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Operation Hadin Kai to the total defeat of the terrorist groups operating in the North-East region.

“For the North central region, slight dust haze is expected across the region throughout the forecast period.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms with light rains are anticipated over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom,” it said.

‎The agency predicted moderate dust haze on Tuesday with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km over the northern region throughout the forecast period.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesman of the Police Command in the state, disclosed this in a statement in Damaturu on Saturday.

He said the disturbing incident allegedly occurred at about 1 a.m. on February 6, but was reported to the Potiskum Divisional Police Station at about 3 p.m. on the same day.

Abdulkarim said the suspect, who was at large, used a sharp knife to mutilate her husband’s organ and fled the scene of the crime.

“Following the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention.

“He was subsequently referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, where he is currently receiving treatment,” the spokesman said.

He said investigation was ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and unravel the circumstances surrounding the crime.

The spokesman said he would not divulge some sensitive details of the crime in order to protect the victim from trauma.

Abdulkarim said the state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the crime and emphasised that marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance.

“Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,” the police spokesman quoted the commissioner as saying.

The Yobe Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mr Andrew Longkam, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

He said the crash occurred around Gaggaba on the Potiskum–Dogon Kuka axis at about 12:40 hours.

“Preliminary reports from Dogon Kuka Unit Command show the incident was promptly reported to the corps,” Longkam said.

FRSC operatives arrived within five minutes, enabling swift rescue, evacuation of victims, traffic control, road clearance and prevention of secondary crashes.

The crash involved a white Howo trailer, registration DAL 963YY, and a white Mitsubishi Canter, registration NNR 437XA.

“Twelve adult males were involved, with eight fatalities and four rescued, including three injured and one unhurt,” he said.

The injured and deceased were taken to Government General Hospital, Dogon Kuka, where the injured received prompt medical attention.

Longkam said the FRSC tow truck cleared the obstruction, restored traffic flow and notified the Police Motor Traffic Division in Dogon Kuka.

“Preliminary findings indicate the Mitsubishi Canter, suspected to excessive speeding, committed a route violation and crashed into the trailer,” he said.

He said excessive speed and route violation were suspected causes, adding that investigations were ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.

The sector commander urged motorists to avoid speeding, route violations and unsafe practices, assuring continued enforcement, emergency response and public education across the state.

A credible military source made this known on Monday in Abuja.

The source said the incident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on January 4, when a local boat ferrying 40 traders from Adiani Village in Jigawa to a market in Nguru capsized in the Garbi riverine area.

According to him, troops of 241 Battalion, in collaboration with other security agencies and local divers, immediately mobilised to the scene and provided emergency support.

“The combined search and rescue effort led to the successful rescue of 13 victims alive, while 27 dead bodies were recovered from the river,” he said.

The source added that arrangements were underway for the burial of the deceased in accordance with Islamic rites, while relevant authorities were taking further necessary actions.

He noted that troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remained satisfactory, reaffirming their commitment to supporting civil authorities and responding promptly to emergencies within their area of responsibility.

Riverine accidents remain a recurring challenge in parts of the country, often linked to night travel, overloading, and poor safety measures.

It envisaged isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains later on Monday over Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states.

For Tuesday, NiMet predicted a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern region, while isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over southern Taraba during the afternoon and evening hours.

“Sunny skies with patches of clouds are also expected over the central states, with chances of isolated thunderstorms later in the day in parts of Kogi, Benue, and Kwara states.

“In the southern region, cloudy conditions are anticipated in the morning across Ogun, Lagos, and Cross River states, while thunderstorms with moderate rainfall may develop later in the afternoon and evening.”

NiMet listed affected areas to include Ogun, Edo, Enugu, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states, where moderate rainfall is expected on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday, NiMet forecast sunny skies over the northern region and sunny conditions with patches of clouds across the central region throughout the day, with thunderstorms developing later in some areas.

It predicted isolated thunderstorms with light rain over Kwara, Benue, and Kogi states during the afternoon and evening, urging residents to take precautions during adverse weather conditions.

“For the southern region, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning over Cross River, Rivers, and Delta States, with moderate thunderstorms likely later in the day across other coastal and inland areas.”

NiMet identified Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states as areas to experience thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon or evening.

The agency urged motorists to drive cautiously under rain and hazy conditions, noting that dust particles might remain suspended over northern states, reducing visibility and air quality.

NiMet also advised persons with asthma or respiratory conditions to take precautions against dust exposure and remain indoors during periods of heavy haze or poor air quality.

Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation from NiMet for effective planning and to avoid delays or disruptions due to weather conditions.

A reliable military source who pleaded anonymity in Maiduguri, on Thursday, said that the suspected terrorists were killed by troops from Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK, while repelling multiple coordinated terrorist attacks in Borno and Yobe.

The source described the operation as the biggest blow against the terrorists this year, adding that dozens of terrorists were also neutralised during fierce battles that lasted several hours.

“The death of the five commanders marked a significant setback for ISWAP’s command and tactical operations in the North East.

“These commanders led the latest failed offensive from multiple fronts, deploying RPGs, anti-aircraft guns, and suicide bombers in a bid to overrun our locations. But they were overwhelmed by combined ground and air counter-assaults,” the source said.

The source further identified the slain commanders as Ari Kolo (Munzir Abbagajiri), Ya Muhammad (from Dosula), Abu Aisha (from Abba Gajiri), Hamzalah (Qaid at Gambo Gege and Faruk villages), and Abu Rijal (from Dosula).

The source said that the suspected slain commanders were killed during simultaneous clashes in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko areas of Borno and Yobe.

The source further said that the slain commanders were behind previous deadly ambush on troops, drone-enabled IED attacks, and assaults on Forward Operating Bases along the Dikwa–Gajibo corridor.

However, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of OPHK, said in a statement that the terrorists had launched simultaneous attacks around midnight, targeting troop locations in Dikwa, Mafa, and Katarko, but were repelled.

Uba said that elimination of “these top figures had degraded ISWAP’s field leadership and disrupted their command network.”

He said that the troops recovered 38 AK-47 rifles, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two GPMGs, hand grenades, and thousands of rounds of assorted ammunition.

“The precision strikes, coupled with enhanced battlefield awareness provided by the Theatre’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, ISR, assets, gave troops additional leverage and impetus to respond with overwhelming and lethal force,” Uba added.

He disclosed that over 70 wounded terrorists were being pursued by ground troops, with the Air Component maintaining close coordination to ensure total clearance of the fleeing remnants.

Intelligence reports, he said, indicated that the attackers who stormed Dikwa and Gajibo manoeuvred from the Cameroon axis, while those who attacked Katarko emerged from the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious terrorist enclave.

Uba said some gallant troops sustained injuries but were in stable condition, while some vehicles and buildings in Mafa and Dikwa were gutted by fire following RPG and drone attacks by the terrorists.

He noted that despite the heavy onslaught, the troops maintained control of all their positions and repelled the coordinated strikes with renewed strength and professionalism.

“The Military High Command has commended the gallantry, doggedness and renewed charge of the troops. Their steadfast performance once again reaffirms the military’s unwavering resolve and capacity to defend the nation’s territorial integrity,” he added.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, made this known at a news briefing on Thursday in Abuja.

Kangye said the operations were conducted between September 14 and September 22, in the North East, North West, North Central, South South and South East theatres of operation.

In the North East, he said troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised several Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, apprehended 26 terrorist collaborators and rescued three kidnap victims.

In the North West, Kangye said the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma killed terrorists in Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi and Sokoto states, and rescued 14 kidnap victims.

He added that a notorious terrorist, Mallam Abubakar Ahmadu, alongside six others were apprehended during the operations.

The spokesman added that troops of Operation Enduring Peace in Plateau and Kaduna states apprehended 52 criminals, killed terrorists in firefights and rescued nine kidnap victims.

He further said troops of Operation Whirl Stroke in Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa and the FCT, killed criminals.

According to him, troops apprehended 17 others including a high-profile kidnapper, Saawuan Wuaiyolna, and rescued eight kidnapped victims.

In the South-South, Kangye said troops of Operation Delta Safe foiled oil theft worth N19.75 million, destroyed 16 illegal refining sites, arrested 19 suspects and rescued five victims.

He also said troops of Operation Udo Ka in the South-East killed several criminals, arrested six suspects, rescued three kidnap victims and recovered weapons, vehicles and improvised explosive device materials.

Kangye commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism, and urged the public to continue supporting the military with timely and credible information.
