The chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, and the Ekerin of Ota, Aworiland, Chief Bamgboye A. Osunlabu, has accused some members of the group of planning to install the acting national president, Captain Ade Agbede (rtd) as the national president without an election.

He described the plan as unconstitutional and hence condemnable.

Osunlabu who made the remark shortly after a meeting of the Ogun State chapter of the organisation at Abeokuta, Ogun State, said the chapter had resolved to uphold the supremacy of the association’s constitution.

He said the state chapter maintained that things should be done properly, especially in filling the vacant position.

He stressed that the Ogun State chapter of the association equally condemned the creation of a group, which he said, was unknown to the association’s constitution.

The creation of the “strange” group, he warned was a move designed by the interim national president to become the substantive national president without conducting a general election.

Speaking in a similar vein, the Secretary of the Ogun State chapter of YCE, Princess Olufunmilayo Bamgboye, said it was not acceptable for any small group to impose its wishes on the group.

She said the Ogun State chapter condemned the suspension of Dr. Kunle Olajide as the Secretary General of the group.

She commended Olajide for his patience, steadfastness and commitment to the cause of the YCE and its aims and objectives.

She appealed to the state chapter chairmen and all members of the organisation to always obey the dictates of the council’s constitution, as well as do everything possible not to relent in their continuous efforts to seek peace, justice and a level playing ground for all in the association.

The Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, and Afao Development Council, ADC, have applauded Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for naming four newly established secondary schools after four distinguished citizens of the state.

YCE in a letter dated March 25, 2019 and signed by its Secretary-General, Dr Kunle Olajide, said the gesture was a pointer to Fayemi’s “commitment to entrench in the state the enduring values of service, patriotism and diligence for which Ekitis were known and respected in the past.”

While commending the Fayemi-led administration’s decision to name the new institutions after Prof. David Oke, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, Prof. Banji Akintoye and Chief Deji Fasuan, the YCE stated that Fayemi’s “second coming is indeed the dawn of a new and glorious era for Ekiti State.”

The Council assured Fayemi of their support in the “arduous task of restoring our values and piloting our state for progress and development.”

“I recall with nostalgia the day in Adetiloye Hall during your first coming when Your Excellency, for the first time since the creation of Ekiti State, publicly recognized and acknowledged the efforts of the few of us under the leadership of Chief Fasuan whom God used with our traditional rulers to achieve the creation of our dear state. Your sense of history is highly commendable,” the letter reads.

The Afao Development Council in its letter dated March 26, 2019. and co-signed by the Alafao of Afao, Oba Joseph Ademilua, and the President of the union, Chief Laolu Omosilade, commended Governor Fayemi for naming one of the newly established schools after Chief Fasuan ,who is an indigene of the town.

The community union said the action was not just a honour but “merit justified by posterity” because of the role played by Fasuan in the struggle for the creation of Ekiti State.

It added that the gesture was a manifestation of the fact that the Fayemi-led administration recognized excellence and selfless contributions of Ekiti sons and daughter.

“This will also foster a lasting cordial relationship between your government and majority of Ekiti citizens who mainly have this erudite statesman as mentor and benefactor and it is also a pointer to the fact that your administration is here to restore Ekiti values,”ADC said.

The newly established schools are to commence academic activities in September, while arrangements have been concluded to establish two additional ones by next year.

Governor Fayemi, whose said his administration put much premium on human capital development, said his administration would continue to recognise and reward excellence service to the state.
