Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged religious leaders, especially clerics and Christian leaders to educate people on the importance of shunning electoral violence and other acts that are inimical to democracy.

He gave the advice at the 5th edition of the Greater Nigeria Project conference of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, held on Friday at the Vineyard Christian Ministries, Ajao Estate, Lagos.

The conference is aimed at reviving and strengthening the Pentecostal body for a more effective leadership role in these end times.

Governor Sanwo-Olu during the conference announced donation of N25 million for the ongoing building project of the secretariat of the Lagos State Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

“Let me appreciate the leadership of the PFN for extending this invitation to me, to address you today, and for your constant support and prayers for us in Lagos State. The successes that we are enjoying in Lagos today are in large part due to your prayers and intercession on our behalf, and your generous wisdom and counsel.

“I wish to covet even more prayers from you especially as we move towards the general elections next year. I also implore us to use our pulpits and influence to enlighten members of various congregations about the importance of taking part in the electoral process – assessing the various candidates and their manifestos, going out to vote for credible and competent leaders, and holding to account all those in authority.

“Christianity calls on us to give unto God what is due to Him, and unto Caesar what is due to Caesar. As children of God, we have civic obligations and responsibilities that are just as important as the spiritual commandments and principles we are expected to live by. In fact, I think we can say that civic participation is a spiritual duty.

“I also call on us as clerics and Christian leaders to educate our people on the importance of shunning electoral violence and other acts that are inimical to democracy.”

Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Greater Nigeria: A New Dawn, Revival and Transformation”, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the theme “is very significant and timely for a nation like Nigeria that is destined for true greatness, and that must continue to press forward in the face of many obstacles, towards that unshakable greatness.

“And we must never be slow or ashamed to seek divine help on this journey. As Psalm 127 verse 1 tells us: ‘Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.’

“As important as our work as nation-builders is, that is, from our various sectors and walks of life, we must always acknowledge the place of the Almighty God in bringing blessings and impact to that work. Otherwise, all of it will be in vain. The New Dawn that awaits the nation of Nigeria will not happen by human labour or striving or wisdom alone.

“Isaiah Chapter 43 and Verse 19 tells us: ‘Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth: shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.’ This is the promise of God for us and our nation, however before we can enjoy the manifestation of this newness, we must be completely revived and transformed; fully rededicated as agents of change for a greater Nigeria.

“That national change that we seek, I daresay, must begin inside each one of us. A transformed Nigeria will not happen without transformed Nigerians.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who spoke passionately about his administration’s achievements in the last three and half years, said the Greater Lagos he promised the people of Lagos State was on course.

He also assured the congregation and the people of Lagos State that he would continue to use his office for the benefits of mankind, adding that he would continue to deliver dividends of democracy to residents of Lagos State in line with the THEMES developmental agenda.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended the dedication and commitment of the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, His Eminence, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, and the leadership of the Lagos State Chapter for organisation of the fifth edition of the Greater Nigeria Project.

“I pray that, at the end of this year’s edition of the programme, we will all be able to look back and recognize it as the beginning of something new and glorious and transformational in the life of our dear country. I thank you all for listening,” he said.

Bishop Oke celebrated his 66th birthday on September 8, 2022.

Asiwaju Tinubu, in the birthday message issued by his Media Office in Abuja, described Bishop Oke who is also the founder of Precious Cornerstone University as one of the most respected clergymen in Nigeria and one who has profoundly worked to advance the kingdom of God through his outreach programmes and leadership of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

“On this anniversary of his birth, I most especially celebrate the man of God for his commitment to national unity, progress, peace and social cohesion.

The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has called on Nigerians not to be dampened by whatever harrowing experience they might be going through presently.

That was as he said the birth of Jesus Christ being celebrated around the world, represented hope and joy for mankind.

Wale Oke, who is also the president of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, gave the encouragement in his Christmas and New Year message.

He counseled that the birth of Jesus Christ offerred an opportunity to the people for them to commit their ways to God and be truthful in their earthly service to humanity.

He said, “This season which celebrates the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ, represents hope and joy for all the people of the earth. So, regardless of the situation we find ourselves, this opportunity given to you and I on a silver platter, shows that we should be more than grateful by serving Him, the Almighty, with everything in us.”

The PFN president also called on the authorities in the country to, in the spirit of the season, which according to him calls for sober reflections, double up efforts in confronting the challenges facing the people in all forms.

“Our government at all levels, should continue to work relentlessly towards making sure that our security, economic and political challenges, among others, are turned around for the good of the country and its people. Our economy should be knocked into shape by revamping it so as to bring down high cost of living in the land,” he further admonished.

On the coming year 2022, Oke assured that it would be filled with abundant blessings and joy for the nation and its people, particularly those who key into the programmes of God.

He stressed that “though 2022 will be a year of abundant joy, this will be for those who totally commit their ways to God by being obedient to His ordinances. We must all endeavour to serve God in truth and in spirit.”

While praying for God’s provision and protection on the people as the year is coming to an end and the new year begins, the PFN president urged the populace to always live peacefully among themselves by not allowing religion, politics or tribal sentiments to cause friction among them.

“It is only in an atmosphere of peace, borne out of mutual love, understanding and respect amongst ourselves that we can enjoy all that God has blessed this nation with. That also remains the only way to move the nation towards achieving its potentials,” he stated.

The President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has bemoaned the state of affairs in the country, blaming it on the ungodly ways of the leaders and the led in the country.

This is just as the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Supo Ayokunle, has disclosed that corruption has become a way of life in Nigeria, stating that Christians have joined the people engaging in corrupt practices in holding the country down.

Oke who is also the Presiding Bishop of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Ibadan, and Ayokunle, lamented that corruption, insecurity and economic hardship had taken toll on the existence of Nigeria and its people.

They both spoke at the flag off of the on-going 8-day 39th Annual Holy Ghost Convention of Oke’s ministry, themed, ‘Abundant Rain’, held at the PCU Campus, Garden of Victory, Ibadan.

The duo however assured that despite the current challenges being faced by Nigeria, it would bounce back to reckoning, maintaining that it would once again enjoy the peace it used to be known for.

Oke who quoted copiously from the book of 1kings 18:1, stressed, “This is the situation of Nigeria presently. There’s drought because of iniquity in the land. But when rain comes, it takes care of the negative. It ushers in the positive; the weather is cold, the grass is green and there’s fruitfulness. The positive begins to break forth, leading to the abundance of everything that’s good.”

The renowned cleric then prayed for an end to the problems currently affecting the nation, saying: “We terminate corruption in Nigeria. We terminate Boko Haram insurgents; we terminate kidnapping and all manner of crimes in the land. There shall be peace in Nigeria.”

Speaking in the same vein, the CAN president decried that ungodliness and corruption had become ways of life in the country, calling for repentance.

He added that the prevailing situation in the country was caused by people’s neglect of God’s words.

According to him, “We have allowed our glory to be trampled upon, by doing all sort of things that are not acceptable and the Lord has left us to our foolishness. Now, we are reaping, both the led and the leaders, the reward of ungodliness and unrighteousness.

“But because the Lord is merciful, because of prayers offered, the Lord has decided to retain some righteous people in this nation; because of this remnants, the Lord has decided to stand up for his people, so that His name might not be blasphemed among the gentiles.

“I stand in the place of Ezekiel and I prophesy to Nigeria and Nigerians, that there shall henceforth be showers of rain upon you. And the showers will bring freshness to the body. Let there be peace in Nigeria. The Lord will fight the beast of bandits, of Boko Haram, religious terrorists, kidnappers, and other criminals operating in Nigeria and cause them to be wiped away in Jesus name.”

Ayokunle added that, “Violence will become a thing of the past in Nigeria, in Jesus name. All Nigerians, from the youngest to the oldest, shall dwell in safety in Jesus name.

“I prophesy into you Nigeria and Nigerians that our economy is going to bounce back and Nigeria will flourish, Nigerians will flourish and people in the diaspora will rush back home and possess their possessions.

“Nigerians, henceforth, you will not be fugitives anywhere anymore. The name Nigeria, shall be respected everywhere. The lost glory shall be restored in full. Nigeria is not going to become Afghanistan, no Taliban is going to take over here. We tear every false prophecy apart, concerning Nigeria in Jesus name, Amen.

“The Lord spoke to me overnight on Friday to Saturday concerning Nigeria from the Book of Ezekiel 34:25-30. In Nigeria we shall dwell safely. No more terrorists, no more insurgents attacks, no more herdsmen attack and kidnappings. There will be abundant of employment.”

The opening which equally had the National Deputy President of PFN, Archbishop Daniel John Praise, and many clerics in attendance, saw thousands of people from different walks of life present and will be rounded off on Sunday, September 5.

President Muhammadu Buhari should rise above primordial sentiments and sectional attachment if Nigeria must become safe, president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Bishop Wale Oke, has warned.

Oke gave the warning on Wednesday while receiving state chairmen of the state chapters of the PFN from Lagos, Ogun and Osun states.

Oke who emerged PFN president recently said Buhari’s silence over the spate of violence carried out by people of his geo-political zone suggested his indulgence and pampering of the criminals.

He said except he rose beyond sectional sentiments and did the needful, Nigeria would continue to be unsafe.

His words: “The silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over the degenerating security situation in Nigeria is too loud and this is very disturbing.

“Seriously, President Buhari’s silence is deafening and it’s giving room for speculations and gossips that suggest the government has a hand in the sickening situation by indulging and pampering the bandits and the killer Fulani herdsmen, among others.

“He (Buhari) should rise above primordial sentiments and sectional attachment by doing the needful to make the nation safer for every Nigerian.”
