Mr Salau Hammed, Ota Divisional Commander of TRACE, confirmed the accident on Tuesday in Ota.

Hammed explained that the accident which involved a truck, tricycle and nine persons occurred at about 9.55 a.m.

According to him, an eyewitness stated that a truck coming from Ilo-Awela toward the Toll Gate lost control due to brake failure and rammed into a tricycle, other vehicles, and pedestrians on the road.

“Six death comprising five males and a female were recorded while three persons were critically injured.

“The corpses of the victims have been taken to the mortuary at Ifo General Hospital, while the survivors are receiving treatment at Ota General Hospital,” he said.

​Hammed said that efforts were underway to clear the wreckage, including the truck, the affected vehicles, and the tricycle from the highway, adding that TRACE personnel and sister agencies were on ground to manage the situation.

He warned motorists against speeding and to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before putting them on the road.

Mr Salau Hammed, the Ota Divisional Commander of TRACE, disclosed this on Thursday in Ota.

Hammed said the accident occurred on Wednesday night when a Scania truck loaded with plywood, bearing registration number GGE 681 XD, reportedly suffered brake failure.

He said an eyewitness explained that the truck, which was coming from Sango, rammed into a vehicle and some commuters who were waiting to board a bus to their destinations.

According to him, four persons were involved in the accident, three of whom – two males and one female – died on the spot.

“The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo,” he said.

The divisional commander warned motorists against speeding and advised them to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy.

He added that the crashed vehicle had been towed away to ease traffic congestion in the area.

The Corps’ spokesperson, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi said the accident, involving a Mazda bus with registration number YNF 414 XN, occurred at about 1: 30 a.m.

He explained that the two occupants of the vehicle, the driver and conductor, both adult males,  died on the spot, adding that no injury was recorded.

According to him, eyewitnesses said the bus lost control owing to speeding, hitting a road barrier and somersaulting.

Akinbiyi further said the vehicle, which was conveying live chicks, had been towed by the Ibafo Motor Traffic Division of the Police for further investigation.

He added that the remains of the victims had been deposited at Divine Touch Hospital morgue in Ibafo, by operatives of TRACE, the police and Ogun State Emergency Services, OGSAES.

He noted that traffic was briefly affected during the rescue operation, but was later restored with efforts of TRACE and the police.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps confirmed the incident on Thursday in Abeokuta.

Its spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the crash occurred about 3.00 p.m., involving a Mazda bus and a Volvo truck.

“An eyewitness said the truck attempted a U-turn towards Ibadan when the speeding Mazda bus rammed into it.

“Twenty-one people were involved; eight died, while 11 were injured. Two adult males escaped unhurt,” Akinbiyi said.

He said rescue operations were conducted by TRACE, the Police, FRSC and the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency.

Four injured victims were taken to the State Hospital, while seven others were treated at FAMOBIS Hospital, Lotto.

The wrecked vehicles were taken to RCCG Police Station, while the deceased were deposited at the morgue.

The Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday in Abeokuta that a road accident had occurred Saturday evening at about 5:20 p.m. at Ijebu-Ode Express Trailer Park.

He stated that the crash involved a containerized truck with registration number KTU 357 XX and a white bus with registration number DGB 650 XA.

Akinbiyi added that a preliminary investigation had revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding on the part of the bus driver.

“Eyewitnesses said the bus driver, while driving at high speed, lost control and rammed into the stationary truck from the rear as the truck was about to navigate the expressway from the trailer park,” he said.

“There were five occupants in both vehicles, two in the truck and three in the bus.

“Two passengers from the bus sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the bus died on the spot,” Akinbiyi said.

The TRACE spokesman said its operatives and of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, had evacuated the deceased to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode, while the injured victims were receiving treatment.

He added that TRACE officials had worked in collaboration with the FRSC and the Police to control traffic and ensure the swift removal of the accidented vehicles.

“The containerized truck and the bus have been taken to the Ijebu-Ode Police Area Command, Igbeba, for further investigation,” he said.

Akinbiyi added that although traffic was initially disrupted, TRACE operatives professionally managed the situation, restoring normal vehicular movement shortly after the evacuation.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.

Akinbiyi said the accident occurred at 1:00 a.m. on the Abeokuta–Kobape–Siun–Sagamu Interchange axis of the Expressway.

He explained that the accident occurred when a 33,000-litre petrol tanker overturned as a result of excessive speeding and spilled its content on the road, leading to an inferno.

“The case of an inferno caused by a fuel-laden tanker which fell on its side and spilled its contents around 0100hrs today, along the Abeokuta–Kobape–Siun–Sagamu Interchange stretch of the PMB Expressway, due to excessive speed and loss of control, has been reported.

“The effect of the unfortunate incident also extended to the burning of a truck and a tow vehicle parked by the roadside, as well as the destruction of a PHCN cable supplying electricity to Mowe and its environs,’’ he said.

Akinbiyi noted that the casualty figure could not be ascertained at the time of this report.

He said that joint rescue teams from TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun State Fire Service, Nestlé Fire Service, the Police, Amotekun Corps, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, were on ground to put out the fire and begin the decantation process.

According to him, emergency and rescue workers are still at the scene to restore normalcy and ensure free flow of traffic.

He appealed to road users to remain calm and obey traffic diversions and rerouting measures put in place by security and rescue operatives.

“However, any inconveniences as a result of this unfortunate incident are highly regretted,” Akinbiyi added.

Mr Adekunle Ajibade, the South-West Area Commander of TRACE, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Saturday in Ota.

Ajibade said the accident that involved a Truck and motorcycle, occurred at about 1.00p.m on Friday.

He explained that the accident which happened at Chelsea area inbound Atan, involved four persons.

He disclosed that a commercial motorcycle, marked KTU 643 QQ, lost control due to speeding and rammed into a Howo truck, resulting in the death of two passengers while the rider sustained injury.

“The corpses of the victims have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital, Ogun, while the injured person was taken to Ota General Hospital for treatment,” he said.

Ajibade said that the truck had been towed off the road to ease free flow of traffic in the area.

He advised motorcyclists and drivers to always exercise patience, and refrain from speeding to prevent avoidable crashes.

Mr Adekunle Ajibade, South-West Area Commander of TRACE, confirmed the accident on Tuesday.

Ajibade explained that the accident, which involved 14 people, a Daf truck with registration number JJJ 144 XD, a Mazda bus with registration number EPE 394 XP and a tricycle marked DGB 599 VC, happened at about 7.40 p.m. on Monday.

Ajibade said that the truck was parked on a slope at the entrance of a warehouse opposite Tipper garage, leaving the engine running while the handbrake was applied by the driver.

He disclosed that the driver exited the truck to deliver waybill to security guards at the gate of the warehouse.

Ajibade said the truck eventually reversed onto the expressway after disengaging the handbrake, causing the accident leading to the death of two people and nine others sustained injuries while three were unhurt.

“The corpses of victims have been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital, Ogun, while the survivors are also receiving treatment in the same hospital,” he said.

Ajibade said rescue operation was carried out by TRACE and Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, personnel while the vehicles were removed from the road to ease the flow of traffic.

He advised motorists to reduce speed, and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.

Akinbiyi said the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Ome Bridge, Awa, along Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan highway in Ijebu North local government area.

He stated that the lone crash involved a Mitsubishi bus, registration number EJ829-LSR, which was conveying 15 passengers at the time.

According to Akinbiyi, seven male and three female passengers died.

Three others were injured, while a toddler and one adult escaped unhurt.

He said preliminary findings indicated that over-speeding and wrongful overtaking led to the accident.

“Eyewitnesses said the driver wrongly overtook another vehicle at high speed and could not regain control after noticing an oncoming vehicle.

“The driver veered off the road, hit an abandoned gravel pile beside the bridge, and plunged the vehicle into the river,” Akinbiyi explained.

He said the deceased were taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital’s morgue, while the injured were also being treated at the same facility.

The spokesperson urged motorists to avoid speeding and to refrain from travelling at night, stressing the importance of road safety at all times.

Ajibade explained that the accident happened at about 9.15 a.m. when the commercial bus marked APP 427 YA lost control and hit the victims.

He said that the bus was coming from Sango-Ota heading towards Toll-gate when it lost control and rammed into two persons on a motorcycle and two pedestrians that wanted to cross.

Ajibade advised motorists against dangerous driving and excessive speed to avoid unnecessary loss of life.

He also cautioned commercial motorcyclists against indiscriminate parking at the Toll-gate area for the sake of picking passengers to prevent incoming vehicles from ramming into them.
