President Muhammadu Buhari has given the assurance that the All Progressives Congress, APC, will free Nigeria from the problem of corruption and bad governance.

The president gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja, just as he promised not to let the country down.

He also announced that he would soon put up his Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) which would lead his party “to victory in the February 2019 general elections.”

He said he was aware of the call for a quick formation of the campaign council but he was still constrained at present.

According to him, he and the party executives were still focused on the APC convention scheduled for Saturday, October 6.

He said shortly after the convention the Presidential Campaign Council would be put in place.

In the statement issued by his media aide Garba Shehu, he implored members of the party and the public to exercise some patience regarding the constitution of the PCC.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos has declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the governorship candidate of the party for the 2019 general election.

This is despite the declaration that the primary which produced Sanwo-Olu as the candidate on Tuesday was declared null and void by the panel set up by the National Working Committee of the APC to oversee the exercise in view of the controversy surrounding it.

The two contestants are incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and the Sanwo-Olu who enjoys the support of the party leadership including the national chairman of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The chairman of the party in Lagos, Mr. Tunji Balogun, declared Sanwo-Olu as the candidate at the secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, Lagos.

He said Sanwo-Olu recorded 970,851 votes while Ambode polled 72,901 votes.

It would be recalled that the Clement Ebri-led panel set up by the NWC had declared that it would conduct a credible exercise as directed by the national headquarters of the party.

Ebri who spoke on Tuesday in Lagos said the election conducted earlier was illegal because it was not in compliance with “the guidelines, the extant rules and the laws of the country.”

According to him, there were ongoing plans to conduct a fresh one which would be credible.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has explained that it has put the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on the watch list because there were suspicion that he might sneak out of the country to evade investigation.

This is despite the assurance given by Fayose in a letter that he would report to the commission on October 16 after handing over government to the Governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The explanation by the EFCC for putting Fayose on the watchlist is contained in the letter which it transmitted to the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service.

The letter with number CR: 3000/EFCC/ABJ/EG/TA/VOL. 59 is dated September 12, 2018 and signed by the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

The EFCC called on the Customs to be at alert because Fayose might want to escape through the land border, airport or seaport to evade arrest.

The letter titled “Request for Watch-listing of Persons, Case of Conspiracy, Abuse of Office, Official Corruption, Theft and Money Laundering,” reads in part:

“The underlisted suspect is under investigation in connection with the above mentioned offences and there is reasonable suspicion suggesting that he may likely leave the Country either through the land borders, Airport or Seaports in order to evade investigation. Hence you are kindly requested to watch list and arrest him.”

Meanwhile, Fayose has criticized his being put on watch list.

He described the move as petty and political.

His reaction was issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, on Sunday.

The statement reads: “EFCC, when a woman is being brought to you as a wife, you don’t have to peep through the window to see her. As I said in my letter, Insha Allah, I will be in your office on October 16, a day after the expiration of my tenure.

“EFCC putting my name on watch list after notification of my coming is not only political but petty. I’m not among those who are afraid to face tomorrow. Nobody is God.

“They should expect me on October 16, 2018.

“I will remain in PDP not minding their intimidation.”

Oyo State Government has said the decision to demolish Fresh FM ’s Music House is based on its contravention of planning laws of the state.

The government said the notice to that effect had been served as early as June 14, 2017.

The building houses Fresh FM 105.9, Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a statement issued by its Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, the government stated that it noticed that property owners in the state were deviating from the originally approved building plans without seeking physical planning approvals from the Oyo State Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control.

Arulogun stated that the decision of the state government to demand for the building approved plan was not peculiar to Music House as several companies and institutions such as University of Ibadan, Kola Daisi University, University College Hospital, banks and radio stations in the state were asked to provide their planning approval.

He said the government recently demolished several banks’ ATM extension and some local government structures in the state.

The government’s spokesman said that the letter to Fresh FM was received by one Bamiduro Aderonke and a reminder letter dated 18th August 2017 was sent to the radio station to again request for the planning approval/permit for the radio station in line with the Oyo State Physical and Development Control laws in which the radio station was expected to forward the approved building plan to the Bureau within seven days.

It was noted that a copy of the letter was received by Adebisi Akinfunmi on the 21st of August 2017.

Arulogun said that the submitted building approval was actually meant for an office complex and not a radio station, thereby contravening the Oyo State Physical Planning and Development Control laws, sections 30, 31 and 32 of the Oyo State Physical Planning and Urban Development Law of 2012, stating that the submitted approval from Music House deviated from the approved plan which effect made the approval null and void because deceitful information was given to the approving authority and also deviation from the approval granted both in construction and use.

He added that a physical inspection was carried out on the 25th of June 2018 to ascertain the extent of the deviation from the approval where it was discovered that apart from the change in use of the building, spatial standards in terms of setback, airspace and parking spaces were found to be grossly inadequate.

The Commissioner said that a letter was sent to Music House on 29th of June, 2018 to submit a fresh building plan application that would reflect the existing structures on site, noting that the radio house deliberately ignored the letter as there was no response from their end till date.

He said that the deviant posture of the radio station prompted the Bureau to serve a three day demolition notice on the 13th August 2018 which expired on the 15th August 2018.

Arulogun said that the government had also received petitions subsequent upon three fatal accidents that occurred around Music House in the last nine months, as the petitioners urged the government to look at the physical structure of the organization in relation to the dual carriage way “which lends itself easily to accidents.”

He emphasised that the government would do the needful and “follow due process in accordance with the laws of the land but would not dignify or elevate the tantrums of Fresh FM.”
