Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Friday said that security forces had rescued 103 persons kidnapped.

Masari made this known while addressing some of the rescued victims at the Government House, Katsina.

“This is in continuation of the exercise that started with the recovery of the 344 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.

“We saw an opening and we are working with some stakeholders to make sure that we exploit the opening and bring back as many kidnapped victims as we can.

“We have so far returned 103 of the kidnapped victims and the process is still ongoing. We are doing this as quietly as we can, to make sure that nobody is harmed and further kidnapping is stopped.

“So, we are doing this with the army, the police, Air Force and the Department of State Security.

”I can assure you that no ransom was paid to the kidnappers,” he said.

Masari urged the victims to consider the incident as something from the Almighty Allah.

“You have seen how you were rescued. No ransom was paid. This should show that prayer is effective, be patient, may Allah reward you for the difficulties you have gone through,” he said.

Some of those rescued by security forces were nursing mothers and girls aged from six to 16.

It was also observed that a 70-year-old man, as well as, a soldier and an anti-riot policeman were among those rescued.

The Presidency has said it would forestall a repeat of EndSARS protests through continuous dialogue with all stakeholders, particularly youths.

The explanation was made against the backdrop of the vow said to have been made by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday during a National Security Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The president was said to have vowed to do everything possible to prevent a repeat of such a protest that turned violent.

The explanation was given by the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting.

Hs words: “What we are saying is that government will continue to dialogue, it will continue to listen and will continue to carry all stakeholders along in ensuring that there is no repeat of what happened that led to the destruction of a lot of properties, public and private, individuals in this country.”

Earlier, the minister said in the president, in his concluding remarks during the meeting, thanked the security forces for maintaining peace, and promised to everything possible to support security agencies in providing peace in the country.

Said the minister: “Mr President assured Nigerians that he will do whatever it takes to ensure that a repeat of ENDSARS protests does not occur in Nigeria again.

“Mr President reassured all that all stakeholders will be involved in the process of maintaining peace in the country, particularly the youth, community leaders, traditional rulers, politicians, public servants, religious leaders etc.

“The federal government will continue to maintain its bureaucratic, humane, and just postures in handling security matters in the country.”

While disclosing that the meeting was held to brief the president on the security situation in the country, especially the increasing banditry in the North West and North East, he said it was pointed out that the security agencies in the country should be more proactive to tackle the problem.

He added that it was also noted that the security agencies needed to be well equipped to face the challenges before them.

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the current attacks on the people of Kona in Taraba State, and ordered security forces to end the violence immediately and decisively.

The president warned that attacks on innocent people in the name of revenge or whatever motives would not be tolerated by the government.

According to President Buhari, “No group of people has the right to surround innocent people and unleash murderous violence on them.”

He said resorting to self-help was an invitation to anarchy which in turn would make everyone unsafe.

President Buhari noted that in a cycle of violence characterised by revenge and counter-revenge, there were no winners.

The president said that in a state of permanent hostilities, people undermined not only law and order, but also their own ability to conduct their everyday businesses in peace.

“I always wonder how people can conduct their businesses in the absence of peace and tranquility because violence ruins everything and leaves the people worse off,” he stressed.

According to President Buhari, “It is difficult to build a virile nation where hate and intolerance dominate the people’s minds. It’s easier to destroy than to build. People should count the economic costs of this violence to their own lives.”

The president warned that a situation where community leaders abandoned their responsibilities and allow thugs to set the agenda was dangerous for peace and security in the country.

He criticised leaders who publicly preach the virtues of peace, but privately promote hate and intolerance which ultimately culminate in violent destruction of life and property.
