The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, made this known on Wednesday at a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The police boss who said the feat was achieved through a covert operation, also disclosed that two of the suspected kidnappers were killed in a gun duel.

He said the suspects were located in a bush where they were hiding, and upon noticing the police officers’ flashlight, they engaged in a gun battle with the law enforcement team.

“The Anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons,” the Commissioner of Police said.

He said the victims later identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police said materials recovered by the police included 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition; five AK 47K rifles; eight AK 47 magazines and two cell phones.

Alamutu expressed the commitment of the command to safeguarding lives and property of the people of the state.

He said a rapid response team had been deployed to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin route.

“We encourage the public to report individuals displaying gunshot wounds under reasonable suspicions,” he urged.
