The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has released the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, result.

The Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, made the announcement on Saturday in a statement he issued.

This is as the board also outlined the process for checking the UTME results.

The board warned candidates against falling victim of fraudsters on the process of checking results.

The statement reads in full:

“To check the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, all a candidate needs to do is to simply send UTMERESULT to 55019 using the same phone number that he/she had used for registration and the result would be returned as a text message. This is the only process of checking the 2022 UTME results for now as the Board has not uploaded it on its website for obvious reasons.

“In addition, candidates are forewarned that they would, as usual, receive all kinds of messages from desperate fraudsters on how to check their results different from the aforementioned one. Hence, the Board urges all candidates to ignore all such messages on how to check their 2022 UTME results as they are all products of deceit aimed at misleading them.

“The Board, in line with its desire to adhere to the ease of doing business protocol of the government, has emplaced this user-friendly and simplified process of checking UTME results.

“Furthermore, this simplified process would also serve to preclude the unconscionable exploitation of candidates by shylock business centres and cybercafes which often take advantage of hapless candidates.

“The 2022 UTME began on Friday, 6th May, 2022 and ended on Friday 13th May, 2022.”

According to him, 1,041,986, representing 89.90 per cent made five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

Three schools were recommended for de-recognition from conducting the Senior Secondary School Examination, SSCE, for two years.

According to him, they were involved in mass cheating.

The schools are in Kastina, Kebbi and Oyo states.

17 supervisors were blacklisted over involvement in malpractices.

He disclosed too that some staff of NECO suspected to be involved in malpractices would be tried and made to face disciplinary actions, including dismissal if found guilty.

Gana noted too that there was increase in malpractices discovered in the last NECO examination owing to “more robust monitoring by staff.”

According to him, external monitors also contributed to more sensitivity in detecting malpractices

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, says it has withdrawn the results of four candidates who participated at its 2019 UTME, Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

This was announced in a statement by the board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin in Lagos.

According to the statement, the candidates were found to have attempted to fraudulently increase their scores at the 2019 UTME.

“One of the candidates, who is the main culprit, had claimed that he initially scored 290 and that it was eventually reduced to 153.

“Following this claim, he was invited by the board’s headquarters for proper screening.

“It was at this point that it was discovered and proved to him that his claim was untrue and as such, he has been deeply involved in serious infraction and forgery of the examination result.

“He, however, eventually confessed to the forgery.

Further checks on his handset also revealed that he was not alone as there were evidence that he had equally been patronised by three other candidates with their registration numbers and names stated clearly, for possible illicit upgrade and faking of results,” the statement said.

According to the statement, no efforts will be spared by the board, in identifying and sanctioning any candidate or persons who attempt to undermine the integrity of the board’s examination by whatever means.

It stated that whoever collaborated or patronised such candidates would face equal sanctions.

The statement recalled that the board had, during the release of its 2019 UTME results on May 11, explained that post examination discovery of serious infraction might lead to the withdrawal of any released results.

It further stated that a number of candidates’ results were withheld for further verification, adding that any one found not to be culpable would have his or her result processed and released.

According to the statement, consequent upon this, after due verification, a number of results were released while others were cancelled.

“There were, however, some that needed further direct interaction and interview, to establish clearly, whether they were culpable or not.

“Candidates in this category were invited to appear in eight designated centres across the country on Monday June 17.

“The centres are Abuja, Asaba, Gombe, Ibadan, Ilorin, Kaduna, Lagos and Owerri.

“The affected candidates had since had the direct interraction and interview with the intelligence committee of the board to ascertain their culpability or otherwise in some discovered examination infraction,” it said.

According to the statement, 3,736 candidates were found to be either free of any blame, or entitled to the benefit of the doubt and consequently have their results processed and released.

“The initially withheld 3,736 results of candidates are now released,” it said.

Over 1.8 million candidates registered for the examination.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released 4, 636 more results of its recently conducted Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made this disclosure in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

The number of the just released results of candidates were among the 34,120 that were initially withheld while announcing the results on May 11.

The Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had explained that of the total number of results withheld, 15, 145 candidates’ results were withheld for further clarifications as identical twins and siblings.

A total of 1,868, 508 candidates had registered for the examination that took place from April 11 to April 18.

“Today, following consideration of the committee set up for the screening of the 4,760 candidates whose results were withheld due to multiple facial matches, with different names, during the 2019 UTME, JAMB has finally released the results of 4,536 absolved of complications.

“This release became necessary following a facial match recognition carried out by specialised software and IT experts.

“The board has also released the results of 231 other sets of candidates who sat for the same examination at the Nigeria Navy Secondary School, Abeokuta in Ogun,” Benjamin added.

He further explained that from diligent investigation it was discovered that all these candidates did not have a hand in all that transpired in that school.

The spokesman said the centre had since been suspended for acts not acceptable by the board.

He noted further that out of the total number of candidates that were subjected to the screening, the board would further subject the results of 127 more candidates for further physical examination.

“Those to be subjected to this further physical examination will be contacted soon.

“They must appear before an inspection team to clarify other likely areas of multiplicity,” he said.

Benjamin disclosed that the 127 candidates had been grouped into zones for convenience and easy accessibility.

“Candidates in the South West will converge at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Office in Yaba, Lagos, while those in Ibadan and Ekiti will converge at the JAMB offices in Ibadan and Oyo respectively.

“Those in the South-East will be converging in Owerri in Imo, while those in the North-East will be screened at the board’s office in Gombe, while candidates in the North-West will go for their screening in Kaduna.

“Others from the North-Central states such as Kwara, will converge in Ilorin while those from Plateau, Nassarawa and the Federal Capital Territory will converge at the board’s headquarters in Abuja,” he said.

According to him, the result of 97 others established to have been involved in multiple registration and other forms of infraction still have their results withheld.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it remitted N5 billion to the Federal Government purse after the conduct of its 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This is contained in the board’s weekly bulletin signed by the JAMB’s Head of Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Monday in Lagos.

Benjamin explained later in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Federal Government gave back N2 billion out of the N5 billion to the board to enhance its operations.

“The board returned N5 billion to the Federal Government, but out of that amount, the board was given N2 billion to further enhance its operations,” he said.

Meanwhile, some 2019 UTME candidates have alleged challenges in accessing their results through telephone as advised by JAMB.

JAMB released the results on Saturday and directed candidates to use the same telephone numbers they used in vending the pins for the examination registration documents to access their results by sending RESULT to a code – 55019.

NAN reports that, of the over 1.8 million candidates who registered for the examination, a total of 1,792,719 had their results released by the board.

The board withheld results of 34,120 candidates over alleged examination malpractice, while results of 15,145 candidates are undergoing further clarification, as in the case of identical twins and siblings, for example.

A parent, Mrs Bridget Otuagha, told NAN that his son had yet to get the result in spite of many efforts.

According to her, the candidate followed the process many times without success.

“I am worried about this whole thing. My son has been trying to get his result since Saturday to no avail.

“He has been sending this RESULT to the said code, up until this morning, and there has been no response to that effect.

“JAMB should see if there is another way,” she told NAN.

Another concerned parent, Mrs Florence Ibem, also told NAN that her son had the same issue.

“Since they released the results, we have not been able to access his score through the telephone number we used in acquiring the registration pin.

“After sending RESULT to the said code severally, there was still no result. This is disturbing and frustrating.

“Something should be done, and urgently too. Even if it is withheld or cancelled, I think we deserve to know,” she said.

When contacted, Benjamin, the board’s Head, Media and Information, apologised to the affected candidates on behalf of the board.

According to him, the challenge was from the service providers.

He said that the board had summoned the service providers for a meeting on the issue.

“We have just had a meeting with the service providers and they assured us that they are working hard to get the issue addressed. In no distant time, such candidates should be able to access their results without any hitch.

“We are just trying to ensure that all the candidates deserving of results should have firsthand information of their performances via their telephones.

“After that, we will post the results on our website for candidates to go ahead and print,” he said.

They are to click on ‘Check My Results’ and after which the portal will load the result if ready.

He noted that the UTME results would be released in batches.

According to him, if the portal returns with ‘You Do Not Have Any Result Yet’, it means that the result is not yet read.

In that case, the candidate would be required to check back.

The result was released on Saturday after a long period of suspense.

In the past few years, results were released few hours after the examination.

However, owing to the need to ensure that those who were involved in malpractices in the last examination were fished out, the board said it had conducted a thorough screening.

The 2019 examination was held from April 11 to April 18 with over 1.8 million candidates registered.

The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by the registrar of the board, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who spoke to journalists.

The release of the results will be coming after a long period of suspense.

In the past few years, results were released few hours after the examination.

However, owing to the need to ensure that those who were involved in malpractices in the last examination were fished out, the board said it had conducted a thorough screening.

The 2019 examination was held from April 11 to April 18 with over 1.8 million candidates registered.

Said Oloyede: “We are releasing our results tomorrow; we are having a meeting today to consider what to put out.”

During the screening examination, the board arrested many suspects over examination malpractices.

Many centres where the examination was conducted were also found to have been involved in one malpractice or the other.

Also, a staff of JAMB said to have collected N25,000 from a candidate in 2018 was apprehended and paraded.

Stressing that the board would deal decisively with anyone found to be involved in malpractices, Oloyede declared: “We are not hiding anything; we are ready to deal with anybody caught and they must face the wrath of the law.”

The Federal High Court on Tuesday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to stop the collation of results of the Rivers State Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

INEC had initially stopped electoral processes of the March 9 governorship election at the collation stage following widespread violence in Rivers.

However, following the report of a committee it set up to look at the issues responsible for the stoppage of the process, INEC on Saturday resolved to continue.

It said that it would announce the date of resumption on March 20 just as it blamed the military for being partly responsible for the disruption that led to the stoppage of the process.

But following a suit against the decision to continue the collation process, INEC was ordered to stop work.

The suit was filed by the African Action Congress against INEC and the Peoples Democratic Party among others

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has given reasons for its rejection of the results of the presidential election being announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abuja.

The leading opposition party, at a press conference addressed by its National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, in Abuja, said the results being announced by INEC were incorrect.

He claimed that the figures did not correspond with that of the PDP as they had been tampered with.

It also accused INEC of being under pressure.

The party alleged that INEC worked hand in hand with security agencies to perpetrate electoral fraud at the different polling centres across the country to favour the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

He said at the appropriate time, facts would be released to support PDP’s position on the results of the presidential election.

His words: “Our collation centres have the original results from all the polling units in the country. That is from where are going to reclaim our results.

“The results are incorrect and unacceptable to our party. Officials of the APC working with INEC have decided to alter results to affect our people. This must now be resisted by every well-meaning Nigerian.

“INEC must live up to its responsibility. They are under pressure. We have the facts and when the time comes, we begin to release them.”
