However, the reception here, since my arrival though, has been so amazing. My boss, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole has been treating me with a tinge of royalty, proudly introducing me to each audience as the “new Director of Public Affairs and Communication who is going to really project FUOYE to the world. That is Dr. Saanu. We snatched him from the University of Ibadan”

Prof. Ogunwole is intellectually dialogical, very conversational and discussive with his open personable mien. He has been meeting various segments of the university, sharing his visions. He is a no nonsense leader who has been emphasizing the fact that the new face of FUOYE will not tolerate laziness, indiscipline, and malingering among other bad manners that should not be found in a university environment.

Along with his team players, including the amiable Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Adeshina Ibrahim, beautiful and elegant Bursar, Dr. (Mrs.) A. A. Debo Ajagunna and University Librarian, handsome Dr. Olajide Olabode among others, Mr. Vice Chancellor has been making life comfortable and enjoyable for me. I have been eating pounded yam as if that was the only delicacy here!

My subordinates in the DIPAC are simply wonderful. The honour and respect they accord me is indeed remarkable. They are so committed to their jobs. With time, I am going to recommend these people to the VC for special appreciation. Even when our vehicle was not available, some of these people offered to carry our public address systems to the venue of an event. I am so lucky to have these people working with me.

But how did I get here? I can’t thank God enough for His mercy. It is God.

They are Messrs Sesan Adeleke, Bakji Godfrey, Chinedu Okafor, Otitoju Femi, and Olutoye Fisher. Others are Mrs. Victoria Osesusi, Bunmi Olanrewaju, and Nifemi Ajayi. These people who see me as their “oga” will stop at nothing to ensure that the job is done. Immediately our meeting is over, they send the minutes to me for approval before disseminating. They are so creative and ingenious. I appreciate you all.

But how did I get here? I can’t thank God enough for His mercy. It is God. After God, let me thank those people whom God used for my migration to Oye-Ekiti. Some of them would not want me to mention their names here, but let me thank my bosses and benefactors , the duo of former Vice Chancellors of University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole and his successor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka. Both of them wrote reference letters for me. However, Prof. Olayinka who has accepted me and my perceived shortcomings did more than writing a letter for me.

I was pleasantly surprised and became emotional the day I went for the interview and Prof. Olayinka’s call came in the previous day.  “SS, (as he calls me) where are you now?” , he asked.  “I am already in Oye-Ekiti sir”. I humbly replied.

Like a coach, giving pep talks to his players in a crucial World Cup final match, Prof. Olayinka began to tutor me. “Tomorrow when you get to the interview, I want you to calm down and display all the works you have done in UI. With your Ph.D degree, I don’t think you will meet someone who will outperform you. I wish you all the best” He had hardly hung up when tears started rolling down my cheeks. But why was I being emotional? I never knew that Prof. Olayinka and those I don’t want to mention love me this much! They marketed me to FUOYE. They wanted the best for me. They were concerned that I had hitherto been dormant in UI. I am grateful to you all. May God continue to protect you for the benefit of humanity. I am grateful.

Now in FUOYE, I am fast acclimatizing. I am beginning to enjoy the ambience of this beautiful academic environment. I am meeting new people every day. Indeed, God is good.

In Nigerian politics, betrayal is often met with retribution. The corridors of power are thick with grudges, and transitions rarely arrive untarnished. But on the solemn occasion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s burial, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu defied the cynical playbook — and in doing so, etched a moment of statesmanship that may outlive them both.

Tinubu was no mere ally in Buhari’s ascent. He was the architect of Buhari’s political resurrection in 2015, offering strategic muscle and party infrastructure that turned persistent defeat into victory. But as Buhari’s second term waned and succession loomed, their bond strained. In a move that did not come as a surprise to many, Buhari withheld public enthusiasm for Tinubu’s presidential bid, instead backing then Senate President Ahmed Lawan for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket. It was a political slight of the highest order—one that could have justified coldness, or worse, calculated vengeance.

Yet when Buhari died, Tinubu’s response was not guided by memory’s sting. It was shaped by duty. He mobilized the full dignity of state protocol, dispatching his Vice President and Chief of Staff to accompany Buhari’s body from London. At Daura, he stood with the bereaved family, overseeing a burial that balanced national honour with personal respect. And in a remarkable gesture, he convened a special Federal Executive Council session in tribute — his words, solemn and expansive, painting Buhari not just as a political partner but as a patriot who gave his life to the republic.

This display of grace did not go unnoticed. Buhari’s son, and other family members, spoke with warmth and gratitude. Tinubu, in turning from bitterness to benevolence, became the custodian of Buhari’s legacy—even when the late president’s own political instincts had once leaned elsewhere.

Indeed, the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) tried to diminish the moment, accusing Tinubu of theatrical excess. But the critique wilted in the face of public scrutiny—and the unmistakable moral clarity of Tinubu’s gesture.

A Lesson Carved in Protocol

There is a didactic depth to Tinubu’s conduct. It tells political elites—particularly those obsessed with succession strategy—that loyalty does not always flow from endorsement. The candidate you marginalize may become the fiercest defender of your legacy. The successor you anoint with pride may turn away when history calls for honour.

Tinubu’s actions urge leaders to rethink succession not as insurance, but as stewardship—one guided by character, not just calculation. Because in the end, it is not your preference but your principles that will endure.

And so, in Daura, amidst dust and prayer, bitterness was buried. In its place stood a living monument: that even in rivalry, dignity must remain. That grace, not vengeance, secures legacy. And that true leadership rises—not by repaying wounds—but by refusing to inflict them.

There is little or no current electoral value. No vision was shared apart from a desperation to grab power at all costs. No alternative superior plan was disclosed. The coalition has little pedigree of excellence in public service to showcase.

Take, for instance, the record of Rauf Aregbesola. As Minister of the Interior, he failed to resolve any of the challenges he inherited in the prisons, immigration services, and border management throughout his tenure. In stark contrast, his successor, Olubunmi Ojo, has, within just two years, transformed the ministry. The backlog of passport applications has been cleared nationwide, and it is now significantly easier for Nigerians to obtain passports both at home and abroad. Immigration services at Nigerian airports have been automated, greatly improving efficiency and giving citizens a renewed sense of pride. Notably, border control has also seen substantial improvement.

Scholars should list this as a case study on how not to form a political coalition. It was a big letdown.

This comparison makes it clear: having been given the opportunity to demonstrate capability and falling short, it is ridiculous to claim to offer better prospects than those who have succeeded in addressing the very issues you neglected.

Another telling example is Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation. Under his watch, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)—an agency reporting directly to him—was mired in controversy, from persistent allegations of corruption against Malami himself to the EFCC’s mishandling of recovered assets and poor prosecution records. Today, however, recovered loots are transparently channelled into funding critical national projects, such as the student loan scheme, marking a clear departure from the past.

These examples underscore the point: the coalition’s leading figures have already had their chance to serve and left much to be desired. Their track records do not inspire confidence in their ability to deliver superior governance or meaningful change.

Scholars should list this as a case study on how not to form a political coalition. It was a big letdown.

The raid followed credible intelligence that some persons were going to hold a night party tagged Unholy Alliance for Stoners and Drunkards where different types of illicit substances were going to be sold and consumed by patrons.

Soon after the organisers began to gather at Berrymist Lounge located at Ofatedo area of Osogbo to start the party, NDLEA operatives swooped on them, arrested them and recovered illicit substances of abuse and drug paraphernalia from them.

Those arrested include the main organiser of the drug party, 30-year-old Gbemileke Adelola (a.k.a. BIG LHYNZ), Ikotu Omolayo, 25; Fola Olabode, 30, and Akorede Adunni Ajibola, 22.

The management of the Lounge has also been invited for further investigation.

This comes on the heels of an earlier raid on Thursday  November 23 at Area 5 forest reserve, Ile-Ife where operatives recovered 156kgs of cannabis sativa.

Meanwhile, operatives in Ogun State on Friday, November 23, arrested two suspects: Adamu Ibrahim and Nura Sani at Ileke trailer garage, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where 859 kilograms of cannabis sativa concealed among bags of sugar in a truck for onward transportation to Mokwa, Niger State.

The consignment was loaded in Ogbese, Ondo State and hidden among bags of cement in a truck before being transloaded into another trailer bearing sugar in Ogun State.

In Edo State, operatives on Monday, November 20 stormed a warehouse at Obi Camp in Owan West local government area, where they recovered 338kgs of cannabis concealed in sacks of charcoal, while in another operation in Ikhin forest, Owan East local government area, NDLEA officers seized 235kgs of the same psychoactive substance on Saturday, November 25.

A suspect, Onah Kenneth Ikechukwu, 32, was arrested at Jattu, Etsako West local government area, with 11,690 capsules of tramadol, 295 bottles of codeine syrup and various quantities of Molly, Cannabis and Methamphetamine on Wednesday, November 22.

A similar raid in Lagos on Wednesday, November 22 at Enu Owa Street, Lagos Island led to the recovery of 40,500 ampoules of pentazocine injection; 440,000 pills of tramadol in a store belonging to a suspect, Ebuka Amechi who is currently at large.

Not less than 135,600 capsules of tramadol and 950grams of cannabis were seized from two suspects: Afamefuna Ibekwe, 37, and Sunday Onweh, 41, at Nkpor, Akuzor and Ose-Ogbaijo, Onitsha, respectively.

While 37,360 pills of different opioids and 250 bottles of codeine syrup coming from Onitsha, Anambra enroute Abuja were recovered from Muhammed Abba Khamis, 22, on Thursday, November 23, along Okene- Lokoja-Abuja Expressway, operatives in Ekiti State seized a total of 288kgs of cannabis at Odo-Owa forest in Ijero local government area on Saturday, November 25.

At least, 116kgs of same psychoactive substance were seized from a suspect, Chinagoram Obaru, 24, who was arrested at Iju forest on Thursday, November 23.

In the same vein, commands across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, equally continued their War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, sensitisation lectures in schools, communities, work places and others.

Some of these include: WADA sensitisation lecture for students and staff of Comprehensive High School, Abia, Udi local government area, Enugu; teachers and students of Dr. Nuhu Sanusi Junior/Senior  Secondary School, Dutse, Jigawa; students of Haneef High School, Jos, Plateau; students of Akinorun Muslim Grammar School, Ikirun, Osun; students of Zaibadari Michika Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary School, Michika, Adamawa; and students of Madarasatul-Islamiya Baichin Kako, Marna Gusau, Zamfara state, among others.

Commending the arrests and seizures of the past week by officers and men of the Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Ekiti, Kogi and Lagos Commands, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) charged them and their compatriots across all formations of the agency to continue to remain vigilant and double their efforts especially with the desperation of criminal networks to make money by all means as the yuletide season approaches.

The suspect was arrested on the October 23, 2022, at Oke-Iganmu area of Ilaro/Papalanto road when the patrol team from Ilaro division on routine patrol of the area sighted him and two others on a Bajaj motorcycle.

The suspect who was sitting at the back quickly jumped down from the motorcycle and ran into the bush with a bag.

He was hotly chased and arrested, while the other two sped off on the motorcycle.

On searching his bag,  two locally made short guns, four live cartridges, one knife and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.

On interrogation, the suspect confessed being a leading member of Eiye cult group, and that they were heading to Agodo Village for operation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to anti cultist unit of the State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.
