The award is in recognition of the organisation’s contributions to social development and advocacy through its media platform.

According to a statement signed by Mrs. Lillian Anyebe, Secretary of NASoW Lagos Chapter, the award acknowledges Gavel International’s outstanding support and partnership in advancing social work values and promoting initiatives that foster positive change within society.

The awards is part of the association’s 2026 International Social Work Day.

It is the first of its kind in Nigeria.

NASoW commended the Gavel International for its commitment to social impact and its continued collaboration in amplifying programmes and activities aimed at building a more caring, inclusive, and supportive society.

The association noted that the award reflected the importance of strategic media partnerships in driving awareness, advocacy, and community development, while also expressing its desire to strengthen future collaboration with the organisation.

The association extended its warm congratulations and highest regards to the management of Gavel International for the recognition.

Those who bagged awards include Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro; Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende,  and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mrs Toyin Oke- Osanyintolu.

In the media category, Punch Newspapers, Arise Television, Lagos Television, and Traffic Radio also won awards.

Ayeniyi was chairman from 1999 to 2002 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but died as an All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain.

The chairman of Okitipupa local government area, Mr Andrew Ogunsakin, confirmed the demise of Ayeniyi in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Okitipupa by his media aide, Tosin Ayejusunle.

Ogunsakin described the late chairman as a highly revered leader whose life was marked by honour, dignity, and selfless service to humanity.

He noted that the deceased made remarkable contributions to grassroots governance and community development, leaving behind a legacy of impactful leadership and commitment to the progress of his people.

“Ayeniyi was a pillar of strength, a custodian of our cherished traditions, and a voice of wisdom whose counsel will be greatly missed.

“His passing is a significant loss, not only to his immediate family, but to Erinje Kingdom and Okitipupa LGA as a whole,” the chairman said.

Ogunsakin, however, prayed that God would grant the bereaved family and the entire Erinje community the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, while also praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased’ soul.

Also, Mrs Morenike Alaka, a former Chairman, Okitipupa local government area, described the death of Ayeniyi as a big loss to the political family in the council and Ondo State at large.

“Ayeniyi was a brilliant and fantastic politician who always accommodated others, no matter how tight his schedule was.

“He was my candid political adviser and I will miss him dearly. His death is a big loss to all Ikale’s and all political family in Okitipupa and Ondo State.”

He was arrested on Friday at Ijeja area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The suspect, according to the spokesman of the police command in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, was arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ibara divisional headquarters that, while Good Friday service was going on at Celestial Church of Christ, Ijeja, the suspect and one other who is now at large, sneaked into the children department and stole two children who are two and three years old.

On their way out with the stolen children, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised alarm, consequence upon which the congregants pursued them and apprehended one of them.

Upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ibara division, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly moblised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from angry mob who were about to lynch him.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti kidnapping unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.

He also ordered that the accomplice must be hunted for and brought to book.

Ogunsakin’s revelation, made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja, came as mixed reactions continued to trail Osinbajo’s declaration to run for the post of president in 2023.

There have been personal attacks on the vice president by some political opponents trying to brand him a betrayer because of his presidential ambition.

“In 2005, President Obasanjo invited Osinbajo to take appointment as the Attorney-General of the Federation after Chief Akin Olujimi left office.

“Obasanjo saw the sterling qualities and performance that Osinbajo had as Attorney General of Lagos.

“The president without informing Bola Tinubu, the then Lagos State Governor, offered the post to Osinbajo who was then Lagos State Attorney-General.

“The first thing Osinbajo did was to inform his principal, Tinubu, who gave him a free hand to take his decision,” Ogunsakin said.

He said that Osinbajo made a request to Obasanjo to release Lagos State Council funds.

“Obasanjo replied that Osinbajo should first take the appointment and then advise him as Attorney-General of the Federation on the matter.

“Osinbajo went underground and for weeks Obasanjo could no longer reach him.

“It was obvious to the then president that Osinbajo deliberately avoided him; he went on to appoint Chief Bayo Ojo as his Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

“Osinbajo rejected the position of Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and stayed with Tinubu; nobody complained then,” he said.

Ogunsakin said Osinbajo not only stood with Tinubu, but stayed loyal to Lagos State, adding that “he did not betray Tinubu then.’’

He cautioned those calling Osinbajo a betrayer.

“But now when it is convenient for them, some political and religious bigots are shouting betrayal!

“Everyone knows that if you want to hear the story of how your father met your mother, join politics,” he said.

He urged anyone criticising Osinbajo over his presidential ambition to do so based on valid facts and “not lazy, religious and political lies that reveal your foolishness and hatred for a man who is doing his best to make his country and people better.”
