The Lagos State government has rolled out a traffic advisory to effectively manage vehicular movement during the seventh road edition of the Lagos Autofest 2025 race scheduled for Sunday, December 21.

Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, said this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

She noted that managing vehicular movement would be around Inner Marina, Marina Road, and Kakawa Street in Lagos Island, between the hours of 12.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m.

“Consequently, there will be a temporary road closure along the race routes; Marina Road (UBA) – Kakawa Street – Balabina Street – Broad Street – Issah Williams Street – Broad Street, and back to Inner Marina, which is the end point of the race.

“To this end, all junctions and intersections from Marina Road (UBA) to Broad Street (Inner Marina) will be cordoned off with road barriers to restrict access to the main race corridor,” she said.

She advised motorists to exercise patience, as traffic authorities, would be on ground to manage vehicular movement along the affected routes, in order to ensure orderly traffic control and minimal impact on overall traffic flow.

She said that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, the Nigerian Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps would work together to ensure a free flow of traffic during the event.

The Lagos State government has said that the rising traffic from articulated trucks on the Lekki-Epe corridor has prompted enforcement of a technology-based electronic call-up (e-call-up) system.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this on Sunday in a statement by Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation.

Osiyemi revealed that enforcement of the e-call-up system would begin from Monday, June 16, to manage truck movement in the affected corridor.

Lekki-Epe axis hosts major investments including the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and key oil and gas infrastructure.

Due to the presence of only one major exit route, Osiyemi noted that industrial growth had intensified congestion in the area.

He said urgent and proactive traffic management measures were required to address the worsening situation on the corridor.

According to him, 360 to 400 trucks currently operate daily, but the figure could increase significantly with full operations at the Dangote Refinery.

READ ALSO: Police announce day to begin tinted glass permit enforcement

The refinery alone could dispatch between 3,000 and 4,000 trucks daily, Osiyemi said, highlighting the need for regulation.

He said the e-call-up system will help regulate truck movement through structured scheduling, reducing chaos on the roads.

“Truck operators will be required to register online and upload their Authority to Load (ATL) documents for verification.

“Only validated and cleared trucks will access designated parks, awaiting an electronic call-up notification before proceeding to their loading points,” he said.

This system, Osiyemi said, is designed to reduce illegal parking, improve traffic flow, and protect road infrastructure along the corridor.

The commissioner described the initiative as a bold step towards transforming logistics and transport management across Lagos, especially in fast-developing areas like Lekki-Epe.

He called for voluntary compliance from all stakeholders to ensure the system’s success and reduce traffic challenges in the region.

The advisory, she said, was to ensure smooth flow and boost security around NIIA House and Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island.

Motorists heading to Lagos Island or the Mainland from Eko Hotel Roundabout should use Adetokunbo Ademola Road to connect Civic Centre, then Ozumba Mbadiwe Road.

They should drive straight, link Akin Adesola Road, then turn left at the junction to access Ahmadu Bello Way or Adeola Odeku.

Ogunlola added that a right turn at the same junction leads to Falomo Bridge or the Law School route.

Motorists leaving Lagos Continental Hotel toward Bonny Camp should use Kofo Abayomi Road and connect Kilimanjaro Junction on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road.

From Kilimanjaro Junction, they can turn left to Bonny Camp or right toward Lekki via Ozumba Mbadiwe Road.

Motorists approaching Kofo Abayomi from Bonny Camp should use Ozumba Mbadiwe and turn right at Kilimanjaro Junction for Lagos Continental Hotel.

For those coming from Independence or McEwen Bridge to Eko Hotel, turn left at the IMB Building on Ahmadu Bello Way by Atlantic City.

From there, connect Akin Adesola Road and proceed via inner streets to reach the Eko Hotel area.

Ogunlola added that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officers would be on ground to guide traffic and reduce inconvenience.

The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service, VIS, has impounded over 200 vehicles not road-worthy across the state.

The Director of Lagos VIS, Mr Akin-George Fashola, stated this in a press release made available on Sunday.

The statement was signed by Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

Fashola, who recently led an enforcement operation that resulted in the impounding of several un-roadworthy vehicles, noted that the initiative was aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing accidents caused by unfit vehicles.

Explaining the rationale behind the operation, Fashola reiterated that the enforcement exercise targeted a wide range of vehicles, with a significant number comprising commercial mini-buses, including Danfos and Korope vehicles.

“The operation is not restricted to private vehicles alone, as is commonly believed, but extends to all categories of vehicles contributing to the state’s transport ecosystem,” he said.

“All vehicle owners, especially those intending to use their vehicles for commercial purposes, are urged to ensure they meet the required roadworthy standards.

“Before commercialising your vehicle, make sure it is fit for the road. You can even take it to any of our annex offices for proper inspection before putting it into operation,” he advised.

He also assured the public of the directorate’s commitment to sustaining the enforcement exercise aimed at improving road safety and promoting a safer, more efficient transport system in Lagos.

The Lagos State government has warned motorists who drive vehicles without proper number plates or use covered ones that they stand the risk of having their vehicles impounded.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, issued the warning in a statement on Friday in Lagos, signed by Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the ministry.

Osiyemi emphasised the determined effort of the Lagos State government to enhance security and enforce traffic regulations.

According to Osiyemi, motorists involved in such act are violating sections 15 and 16 of the State’s Transport Reform Law, (TSRL 2018).

READ ALSO: Tinubu assents to Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill

“Such actions not only breach traffic laws but also pose a significant threat to public safety and security.

“Driving without visible number plates hampers law enforcement efforts and complicates the identification of vehicles involved in criminal activities,” he said.

Osiyemi said it was necessary for motorists to prominently display valid, unobstructed number plates in adherence to TSRL 2018.

He said that non-compliance would attract strict penalties, including fines and potential vehicle impoundment.

Quoting section 16 of the TSRL 2018, the transportation commissioner reiterated that a person who drives a vehicle that is not registered, or has not affixed identification mark in the prescribed manner, commits an offence.

Osiyemi urged motorists on voluntary compliance and adherence to the state’s traffic rules and regulations.

He assured the public that the state government remained unwavering in its commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for all road users.
