										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A boat mishap has claimed 29 lives in Gausawa community in Malale ward of Borgu local government area of Niger.</p>
<p>Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, Director-General of Niger state Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, disclosed this in a statement in Minna on Wednesday.</p>
<p>He said that the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 11.30 a.m., adding that the boat was carrying 90 passengers including women and children.</p>

<p>He said that the boat took off from Tungan Sule in Shagunu ward with 90 people on board and was heading to Dugga for a condolence visit.</p>
<p>He said that the boat collided with a tree stump, which resulted in the tragic incident.</p>
<p>He said 29 dead bodies had been recovered with 50 persons rescued alive while two people were still missing.</p>
<p>He added that search and rescue operations was ongoing.</p>
<p>“As at the time of filing this report, 29 dead bodies have been recovered with 50 persons rescued alive while 2 people are still missing.</p>
<p>“Overloading and collision with the tree stump are believed to be the causes of the mishap,” he said.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Niger Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, has said that 13 dead bodies have been recovered while 26 people were rescued from the recent boat mishap in Gini Village, Shiroro local government area.</p>
<p>This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Abdullahi Arah, the Director-General of the agency on Sunday in Minna.</p>
<p>The incident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on Saturday around Kwata, as the boat was heading to Zumba market.</p>
<p>According to the agency, the boat, which was fully loaded with goods and passengers capsized while conveying them to the weekly market.</p>
<p>“We have confirmed a boat mishap incident with 13 bodies recovered while 26 were rescued bringing the total number of people in the boat to 39.</p>
<p>“Those that were recovered had since been buried and among them were eight women, three men and two children,” he said.</p>

<p>Earlier, Dr Ibrahim Hussaini, NSEMA’s Director of Information and Special Duties confirmed in a statement that the boat driver and few passengers were rescued.</p>
<p>Hussaini said that one of the victims was admitted at the General Hospital Kuta, and had been discharged.</p>
<p>The Niger government, through NSEMA, National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission N-HYPPADEC and NIWA have distributed life jackets to various riverine communities.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Niger State Emergency Management Agency has said that 21 people have lost their lives following heavy rainfall that resulted in flood in Mokwa local government of Niger.</p>
<p>The Director General of the agency, Dr Ibrahim Hussaini, disclosed this to newsmen in Minna on Thursday.</p>
<p>He said the incident occurred during a torrential downpour on Wednesday night, causing widespread destruction.</p>
<p>Hussaini said three people &#8211; a woman and her two children – were rescued alive and were receiving treatment for wounds and shock at Mokwa General Hospital.</p>

<p>He said 21 bodies had so far been recovered in the incident while over 10 persons were still missing as search and rescue operation continued.</p>
<p>He said the affected communities were Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa town.</p>
<p>He added that over 50 residential houses were submerged and washed away with their occupants.</p>
<p>He said NSEMA in collaboration with Mokwa local government, local divers, and volunteers were conducting search and rescue operations to rescue survivors and recover corpses.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>An accident involving an articulated vehicle has claimed seven lives with 16 others injured along Agaie-Badegi Road, in Katcha local government area of Niger.</p>
<p>The Director-General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Minna.</p>
<p>He attributed the accident to a bad portion of the road on Lambata/Bida axis.</p>
<p>Baba-Arah stated that the truck was carrying federal government grains with passengers numbering about 36, all male, heading to Kano from Lagos State.</p>

<p>The director general added that most of the dead have been taken away by their relatives.</p>
<p>He said that search and rescue operations were carried out by NSEMA alongside commuters and some villagers near the scene of the incident.</p>

<p>The director-general of the agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Minna and made available to newsmen.</p>
<p>Baba-Arah said that over 89 houses and hundreds of farmlands were destroyed by the disaster.</p>
<p>He also said that three vehicles were washed away by the flood, which followed an early morning downpour that lasted several hours.</p>
<p>He said: “NSEMA has received reports of flooding in Mashegu and Magama council areas.</p>

<p>Baba-Arah said that the affected areas were Sabon Pegi and its surrounding communities in Mashegu and Nassarawa in Magama.</p>
<p>He said that search and rescue operation was ongoing by members of staff of the agency and volunteers to rescue the missing persons.</p>

<p>“The incident occurred on Thursday. It involved local miners who were said to be carrying out mining activities illegally.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A mining site has collapsed in Galkogo Village of Shiroro local government area of Niger State, killing one person and trapping more than 30 persons, the state Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, has said.</p>
<p>“One person had been confirmed death, six persons rescued with severe injuries while more than 30 people were still being trapped,” the agency said.</p>
<p>The Director-General of the agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, said in Minna on Tuesday that the incident occurred on June 3.</p>
<p>He said that the agency received report of a mining site collapse at Galkogo Village of Shiroro.</p>
<p>Baba-Arah said that the cause of the mining site collapsed was heavy rainfall impacts on the soil.</p>
<p>He said rescuers ran for safety from the site because the site kept falling.</p>
<p>He also noted that the agency had yet to get full details on rescue operations due to insecurity in the area.</p>
<p>He, however, said that excavators had been deployed to the site for the rescue operations.</p>

<p>He also said that the suspected bandits kidnapped more than 20 people and stole many cattles in Tunga Kawo, an adjoining community from Erena.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, has said that nine bodies were recovered from a boat mishap that occurred in Shiroro local government area of the state.</p>
<p>The Head of Relief and Rehabilitation in NSEMA, Alhaji Salihu Garba, disclosed this in an interview with the <em>News Agency of Nigeria, NAN</em>, in Minna on Sunday.</p>
<p>Ten persons were confirmed dead in a boat mishap that occurred on Thursday, November 16.</p>
<p>The victims, mostly traders, were reportedly conveying goods from Zongoru Community of Bassa Ward to Gijiwa, ahead of Friday market in Kuta, headquarters of Shiroro local government area when the tragic incident happened.</p>

<p>At least 34 persons were said to be on board of which 10 allegedly lost their lives, while 22 were reportedly rescued by local divers.</p>
<p>Garba gave the names of the deceased as including Farida Muntari; Sharhabila Sagir; Bubakar Sadiq; Na’ima Ibrahim; Amina; Safaratu Ibrahim; Sadiq Ibrahim and Rafiya Yakubu.</p>
<p>He said that the agency had yet to identify two of the deceased persons, adding that all the deceased were from Zangoro.</p>
<p>He further said that there were 24 males and female adults and 10 male and female children in the boat when it capized.</p>
<p>Garba also said that a search operation was ongoing to recover the remaining bodies.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A boat carrying about 22 passengers on board from Kasabu Village in Agwara local government area of Niger to Yauri in Kebbi has capsized.</p>
<p>Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Alhaji Salihu Garba, disclosed this in Minna on Monday.</p>
<p>He said that the agency received a report of the boat mishap that occurred on Monday between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.</p>
<p>According to him, a survivor of the mishap said that the boat had about 22 passengers on board.</p>

<p>He said that search and rescue operations was ongoing by the local divers and boat owners under the supervision of the agency’s desk officer in Agwara.</p>
<p>He said no passenger had been recovered yet, adding that the mishap happened on Yauri market day.</p>
<p>Garba added that only after the market would families be able to declare their missing relatives.</p>
<p>He explained that it took about 24 hours for any drowned person to surface atop water.</p>
<p>He attributed the cause of the incident to water hyacinth coupled with strong waves.</p>
