More than 150 journalists are set to benefit from the media career development programme, Media Career Fix, organised by the Media Career Development Network, MCDN.

The Executive Director of MCDN, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, announced the programme, which is supported by Nigeria LNG Limited, at its launch in Lagos last week.

After assessing participants’ career progress and identifying gaps affecting their growth, Otufodunrin explained that the journalists would receive personalised recommendations, participate in relevant training sessions, and gain access to mentoring, coaching, and other capacity-building support.

Presenting a report on the state of media career development, Otufodunrin said a survey conducted ahead of the launch revealed, among other findings, that many journalists in the country lacked mentorship, career direction, access to necessary information and data resources, as well as tools, training, and digital capacity.

Journalists who responded to the survey also identified safety, ethics and institutional constraints, as well as poor remuneration and financial instability, as major constraints hindering their career growth.

To address the identified challenges, Otufodunrin said beneficiaries of the programme would be provided with career strategy and clarity, a structured mentorship system, and improved access to opportunities.

They will also receive training in digital readiness, economic empowerment, and sustainability strategies.

Instead of selecting only 30 beneficiaries as originally planned, the Executive Director explained that MCDN decided to support all respondents due to the severity of the challenges they highlighted.

He thanked Nigeria LNG Limited for its support and urged participants to maximise the career-enhancement opportunities available to them.

“It is important for journalists to be intentional about achieving their career goals and aspirations instead of leaving things to chance,” Otufodunrin said, noting that the Media Career Check-up/Media Career Fix initiative was a wake-up call for journalists to take charge of their career development.

In her keynote address titled “Fixing You First: The Hard Truth About Building a Journalism Career in Nigeria,” Editor of Gist Nigeria and Career Mentor at BBC, Ms. Omotola Adebanjo, noted that until individual journalists addressed their own gaps, no newsroom, mentor, or opportunity would be sufficient.

While acknowledging the various crises facing journalism globally, Adebanjo said journalists should stop telling themselves that they would grow only when they joined the right newsroom.

“You don’t grow because of the newsroom; you grow because you decide to—then the newsroom will catch up with you,” she said.

She recommended “personal fixing” in areas such as skills ownership, visibility, adaptability, and financial responsibility.

Adebanjo, however, noted that news organisations also hax a role to play in supporting journalists’ development.

She urged organisations to stop treating journalists as replaceable labour, invest in training (not just output), and build structured mentorship pipelines.

Media organisations should also reward innovation, not just routine reporting and protect editorial independence, she said.

The launch attracted both physical and virtual participants from across the country.

Special guests at the programme included a Board of Trustees member of MCDN, Alhaja Sekinat Lawal; Founder of The Journalism Clinic and Executive Director of Media Mentors Leadership Academy, Ms. Joke Kujenya; Executive Director of Illuminate Nigeria Development Network, Ms. Anikeade Funke Treasure; Founder of Debisibusybee Media, Mrs. Adebisi Adetunji; and the Executive Director of Media Mentors Network.

The Nigeria Prizes have opened entries for the 2026 cycle, focusing on artificial intelligence, poetry and documentary filmmaking across science, literature and creative arts.

Mrs Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at Nigeria LNG Ltd., NLNG, made this known in a statement on Sunday.

Horsfall said the 2026 edition of the Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation would focus on Innovations in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Technologies for Development, following a no-winner outcome in the 2025 cycle.

She added that the Nigeria Prize for Literature would spotlight poetry, while the newly introduced Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts would debut with documentary filmmaking.

According to her, the Nigeria Prizes remain the country’s foremost platform for recognising excellence in science and innovation, literature and the creative arts, with a legacy spanning over two decades.

Horsfall said the selected themes reflected the realities of a rapidly evolving global environment, noting that extensive research had shown the transformative potential of ICT, artificial intelligence and digital technologies.

She said the prizes were designed to reward innovative ideas and talents capable of delivering long-term national impact, adding that the introduction of the Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts underscored NLNG’s commitment to recognising creativity as a critical driver of development.

Also, the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Science and Innovation Prize, Prof. Barth Nnaji, urged scientists and innovators worldwide to submit works that moved beyond theory to provide deployable, scalable and practical solutions.

Nnaji said the prize was founded on the principle that science should deliver measurable outcomes, particularly within Nigeria’s development landscape.

“The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation, valued at 100,000 dollars, is open to scientists and innovators globally and seeks pioneering digital and artificial intelligence-based solutions across critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.

“For the Nigeria Prize for Literature, Nigerian poets resident in the country and in the Diaspora are invited to submit poetry collections published from 2023 onwards, with the prize also valued at 100,000 dollars,” he said.

The Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Nigeria Prize for Literature and the Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, described the Creative Arts Prize as a significant addition to NLNG’s legacy of celebrating excellence.

She said the prize reaffirmed the belief that excellence transcended form, whether written, spoken or filmed, while also recognising poetry’s enduring role in social reflection and inquiry.

“The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts will debut with documentary film under the theme “Identity,” offering a 20,000-dollar prize and targeting emerging Nigerian filmmakers aged 18 to 35,” she said.

She said the prize would challenge young creatives to explore individual, communal and cultural identities through rigorous storytelling and visual excellence.

In a major push for environmental sustainability, the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria, ALTON, and the Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, are set to collaborate with ITREALMS Media on the 2025 ITREALMS E-Waste Dialogue.

The crucial partnership addresses Nigeria’s escalating electronic waste (e-waste) challenge, which currently stands at an estimated 1.2 million tonnes annually.

The influential annual event, hosted by ITREALMS Media Inc., is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Welcome Centre Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos.

The dialogue’s urgent focus is captured in this year’s theme: “Nigeria: Recycle your e-waste – it’s critical!”

According to the convener, Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, the Dialogue is explicitly designed to transition the e-waste conversation from mere awareness to actionable national policy.

It will convene a cross-section of key stakeholders—including Regulators, Industry Leaders, Recyclers, and Civil Society—to craft a unified national strategy for sustainable e-waste management.

The involvement of ALTON and NLNG signals a powerful and necessary alignment between the nation’s telecommunications industry, its energy sector, and critical environmental sustainability goals.

“The sheer volume of e-waste… demands immediate, collective action,” said Nweke. He highlighted ALTON’s commitment, noting that ALTON Chairman, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, will lead a delegation focused on Environmental Sustainability and Governance (ESG) to offer insights on the theme as it specifically impacts the telecom sector.

Nweke expressed optimism that ALTON is dedicated to developing and enforcing robust industry standards for the responsible recycling and disposal of telecom equipment and end-of-life devices.

The collaboration with NLNG, he added, is particularly significant.

It underscores the vital role of corporate leadership in addressing national environmental challenges, directly aligning with NLNG’s sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments.

Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, the Group Executive Editor of ITREALMS Media Inc. and Convener of the E-Waste Dialogue, stressed the potential impact:

“The message this year is blunt: recycling is critical. We are honoured by the support from ALTON and collaboration of NLNG, whose leadership in sustainability is crucial to elevating this dialogue to a national imperative.”

The event, Nweke further said, promised a thorough examination of the challenges and opportunities within the e-waste circular economy, paving the way for definitive, sector-wide policy recommendations, especially for future leaders.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has affirmed Nigeria’s important role in global gas exportation and energy stability.

This is contained in a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy.

The statement is against the backdrop of the recent election of Dr Philip Mshelbila, Managing-Director of Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, as Secretary-General of the GECF, during the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the forum in Doha, Qatar.

Also Mr Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) was chosen as the President of the 2026 GECF Ministerial Meeting.

According to him, Nigeria’s growing role within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, GECF, underscores the country’s centrality to shaping sustainable energy.

Tuggar said, “Nigeria’s growing stature in global energy diplomacy has been reaffirmed through its recent success at the 27 Ministerial Meeting of GECF.

“Such is a gathering that brings together the world’s leading gas-producing nations to coordinate policies and promote energy security, and market stability.

“Nigeria’s securing these global leadership positions was made possible through sustained energy diplomacy and strategic engagement led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“This outcome is the product of deliberate, quiet diplomacy and Nigeria’s sustained engagement with fellow gas-exporting nations.”

“It validates the confidence of the international community in Nigeria’s integrity, competence, and leadership within the global energy transition space.”

He commended Mshelbila and Ekpo, assuring that they would represent Nigeria with distinction working closely with other member states to deepen cooperation, strengthen market stability, and advance balanced, inclusive, and sustainable global gas market.

“Mshelbila’s election and Minister Ekpo’s new mandate both reflect our country’s commitment to promoting cooperation, market stability, and inclusivity across the gas value chain.

“Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria continues to project responsible energy leadership rooted in democracy, development, and diplomacy,” he added.

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, SNEPCo, a subsidiary of Shell Plc, together with Sunlink Energies and Resources Limited, have taken a final investment decision, FID, on the HI gas project offshore Nigeria.

When completed, the project will supply 350 million standard cubic feet (approximately 60 thousand barrels of oil equivalent) of gas per day at peak production to Nigeria LNG (NLNG; Shell interest 25.6%), which produces and exports liquified natural gas, LNG, to global markets.

Production is expected to begin before the end of this decade.

“Following recent investment decisions related to the Bonga deep-water development, today’s announcement demonstrates our continued commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector, with a focus on Deepwater and Integrated Gas,” said Peter Costello, Shell’s Upstream President.

“This Upstream project will help Shell grow our leading Integrated Gas portfolio, while supporting Nigeria’s plans to become a more significant player in the global LNG market.”

The increase in feedstock to NLNG, via the Train 7 project that aims to expand the Bonny Island terminal’s production capacity, is in line with Shell’s plans to grow its global LNG volumes by an average of 4-5% per year until 2030.

It will also bolster NLNG’s contribution to Nigeria’s national economic development goals, including jobs in construction and operations.

The HI field was discovered in 1985 and lies in 100m of water depth around 50km from the shore.

The current estimated recoverable resource volumes of the HI project are approximately 285 mmboe (million barrels of oil equivalent).

By KAZEEM AKINTUNDE

Every year since 2004, except when COVID-19 reared its ugly head, the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) sets aside a $100,000 grand prize as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to celebrate scientists who have through their work, impacted Nigeria and humanity. This year’s event to announce the winner of the Nigeria Prize for Science award was held at the Lagos Continental Hotel few days back.

On the high table were senior staff of the NLNG and the Advisory Board for the award led by its Chairman, Professor Bart Nnaji. Nnaji however dropped a bombshell when he told the audience that though the board received a total of 112 entries, none was deemed good enough to cart home the prize.

Most of the invited guests were stunned, and disappointment written on the faces of many. But Nnaji said that the Advisory Board was also disappointed by the development and that the painful decision had to be taken in order to protect the integrity of the award.

Established in 2004, the Nigeria Prize for Science encourages Nigerian scientists and their counterparts the world over to submit entries which they believed has had tremendous impact on the lives of the people.

The theme for the 2025 edition was: ‘’Innovations in ICT, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies for Development’’. The topic was a good choice, going by the impact AI and ICT is having on the world stage. Even without being a scientist, the way and manner Artificial Intelligent is shaping our world has left many wondering whether there would still be a work force in the next 30 to 40 years with the ways and manner machines are complementing and, in some cases, taking over work hitherto reserved for human beings, all thanks to advancement in Science and Technology.

There are several tools that are now available to write news and edit stories. Recently, a Television Station used a robot to cast news in place of a human being. There are now robots that can perform wifely roles to a man who desires such. Drones have been developed that can deliver drugs to end-users, thereby shortening the supply chain bottleneck in areas where there is conflict or war. It is those kinds of entries that the organizers were looking forward to receiving, but in their words, what they got “were not up to the standards”.

Early this year, scientists and innovators worldwide were invited to compete for the $100,000 prize, which honours groundbreaking solutions to challenges relevant to Nigeria and Nigerians. The call for entry closed at midnight on April 30, 2025. To ensure a rigorous and credible process, a panel of judges comprising distinguished professors and relevant scientific experts was appointed by the Advisory Board and LNG Limited. The selection process also reflected both gender and ethnic balances.

READ ALSO: Family planning: Why men should embrace vasectomy -Experts

At the inaugural meeting in Lagos, the panel of judges developed the 2025 Nigeria Prize for Science Entry’s evaluation criteria, which was subsequently approved by the Advisory Board. These criteria included academic track record, quality, recognitions, uniqueness, innovation, impact, commercialisation, soundness, and patent.

At the close of submissions and 112 entries received, the panel of judges found 54 to be valid and progressed for adjudication. Then, the judges conducted independent reviews and produced a shortlist of 10, with the top four entries ratified by the Advisory Board for further evaluation with a view to choosing a winner. But at the end of the day, it was unanimously concluded that all submissions, while they demonstrated commendable effort, lacked the soundness, usability, and impact that characterized past awards. The judges also discovered that some entries did not fully address all three thematic areas, while showing weakness in the practicality of the innovations in solving scenario-specific problems, lack of clarity on the operability of the innovations, and, no evidence of robust field testing of the innovations.

Indeed, the advisory board must be commended for taking the tough but necessary decision not to award this year’s prize for Science to anyone. As stated by Prof. Nnaji and reiterated by Dr. (Mrs.) Nike Akande, the board were more interested in innovations that is presently having a positive impact on Nigerians as most past winners have demonstrated through their works.

Just last year, the trio of Dr. Olajide Otitoju, Dr. Eni Oko, and Professor Meihong Wang won the prize for their research on Process Intensification Technology for Greenhouse Emission Control. Their entry was a brilliant scientific work that focuses on developing solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable fuel production.

Otitoju is a Chemical Engineer and post-doctoral research Associate at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, while Oko is a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Newcastle University, also in the UK, while Professor Wang is the Process and Energy Systems Engineering Research Group at the University of Sheffield, also in the UK. The trio came together using their knowledge to provide a technological solution for capturing and utilizing carbon dioxide, which helps in sustainable fuel production and reducing carbon emissions. This contributes greatly to global efforts to combat climate change.

The devastating effect that climate change is having on our environment, particularly in Northern Nigeria cannot be overemphasized and for the trio to come up with a solution that could reduce emissions in our environment deserves all the accolades.

With the no-winner for the Nigeria Prize for Science this year, it is hoped that our scientists would put in more efforts into research and winning the prestigious award.

In the same vein, Professor Hippolite Amadi emerged as the winner of The Nigeria Prize for Science 2023 on his entry, “Innovation for Enhancement of Healthcare Therapy”. His three (3) technological innovations, aimed at saving the lives of neonates by making the delivery of oxygen cheap and easy at birth, is highly commendable. His first invention, the non-invasive Neonatal Ventilator (The bubble PoliteCPAP) is a key invention for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) ventilation of very low-birth-weight neonates. His second innovation, the Oxygen Delivery Blender System, allows for the safe delivery of oxygen without the danger of toxicity; and the third is the Oxygen Splitter System, which allows for the use of a shared source of oxygen to many neonates at a time in situations where piped oxygen is not available.

With a career spanning over three decades since 1987, Professor Amadi has made significant contributions to the fields of Engineering in Healthcare, Orthopaedics, and Neonatology research. His journey began when he graduated as the top student in Mechanical Engineering from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1988. Professor Amadi’s global expertise in Orthopaedic Biomechanics and Neonatal innovations for low-income settings has been shaped by his exceptional academic achievements. As a former student and now a Professor at Imperial College London, UK, he has earned multiple postgraduate medical degrees, including a PhD.

His dedication to medical practice and research has led to the establishment of a dynamic team comprising nurses, doctors, and technicians. This team has covered more than 30 tertiary hospitals across Nigeria over the past two decades, granting Amadi unparalleled access to a vast repository of evidence-based data on a national scale.

Professor Amadi’s impact extends beyond Nigeria. He is a recognised figure in global discussions on the African perspective of climate change’s impact on neonatal health, earning him a consistent place on the lists of influential thinkers by organizations such as WHO, Wellcome Trust, and the World Bank. His exceptional accomplishments have also earned him a prestigious spot in the Imperial College, London’s Hall of Fame as part of the alumni’s story series.

In 2022, the Nigeria Prize for Science was awarded jointly to two research teams: Sesan Peter Ayodeji and Emmanuel Olatunji Olatomilola, for their work on ‘’Process Plant for Plantain Flour’’, and Muhyideen Oyekunle , and Shehu Garki Ado for their research on ‘’Grains in Grain Yield of Released Maize (Zea Mays L) Cultivars Under Drought and Well-Watered Conditions”.

With so much work done in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies, the Advisory Board believes that there are many breakthroughs in that field already that is sharpening the local economy in Nigeria and the world at large and that the theme should be retained for next year. But to change the narrative, the sponsor of the prize, NLNG, has agreed to pump the $100,000 prize money for this year into publicising the award so that more scientists would be aware of the programme and put in their entries next year.

The General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, NLNG, Sophia Horsfall, is of the view that research has shown the immense potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and digital technologies in reshaping global industries and societies, offering innovative solutions to some of humanity’s most pressing challenges, whist acknowledging the fact that as the world transitions from the Industrial Age to the Intelligence Age, these advancements provide new opportunities to drive economic growth, foster social progress, and build a sustainable future.

While the Nigeria Prize for Science has produced no winner this year, its twin brothers, the Nigeria Prize for Literature, as well as the Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism, one of the country’s most prestigious literary accolades, which shifted focus to Prose Fiction for the 2025 edition, would have their winners announced this weekend.

The Nigeria Prize for Literature winner will go home with the sum of $100,000, while the Prize for Literary Criticism is $10,000.

With the no-winner for the Nigeria Prize for Science this year, it is hoped that our scientists would put in more efforts into research and winning the prestigious award. Prof Nnaji and the Advisory Board have also demonstrated exemplary conduct by not awarding arbitrarily. By so doing, they have protected the integrity of the award.

See you next week.

The long-term Gas Supply Agreements, GSAs, with options for extension, were signed on Friday at the NNPC Towers in Abuja to boost gas supply to NLNG’s Bonny Plant.

The third-party suppliers include Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. – Sunlink Energies and Resources Ltd. project, and TotalEnergies E&P Nigeria Ltd. – Amni International Petroleum Development Company Ltd. JV IMA project.

Other suppliers include NNPC Ltd. – First Exploration and Petroleum Development Company Ltd. JV; Shell Nigeria Gas Solutions Ltd. – NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd. JV; OANDO – NNPC E&P JV; and TotalEnergies E&P Nigeria Limited JV Ubeta.

Speaking on the agreements, Dr Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director and CEO of NLNG, described the development as a strategic move to strengthen feedgas supply to its existing trains on Bonny Island and support the company’s expansion drive.

“The suppliers will deliver an estimated 1,290 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), or 13.3 billion cubic meters per year (bcm/yr), of feedgas to NLNG, which will be scaled up gradually over time.

“These new GSAs represent a significant boost to feedgas availability, enhancing NLNG’s capacity to meet its commercial commitments while laying the groundwork for expansion.

“This development aligns with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative, which places natural gas at the center of Nigeria’s industrialisation and energy transition agenda,” Mshelbila said.

He described the milestone as the culmination of sustained efforts by shareholders and stakeholders to address long-standing gas supply constraints.

In recent years, NLNG’s operations had been significantly impacted by pipeline disruptions, including vandalism and sabotage, which affected upstream gas availability.

“NLNG recognises the challenges the insufficient gas supply has caused to its long-term buyers, customers, shareholders, and the Nigerian economy at large.

“With the new GSAs, NLNG is optimistic about sustainable gas supply for the future and remains grateful for the continued support of its buyers and other stakeholders,” he added.

Mshelbila explained that the new GSAs marked a historic shift for NLNG, which since inception had relied primarily on legacy shareholder joint venture affiliates for gas supply.

With the recent divestment of onshore assets by International Oil Companies (IOCs) to non-shareholder entities, NLNG can now procure feedgas from diverse third-party suppliers to meet its growing needs for both LNG and Natural Gas Liquids production.

In his remarks, Mr Bashir Ojulari, Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., said the NLNG concept had been on the table for two decades before the federal government allowed partners and critical enablers to commence and sanction the project.

Ojulari lauded the founders and partners for their resilience through all the challenges from NLNG Train One to Train Six, describing it as a demonstration of global commitment and Nigeria’s readiness to operate a world-class business.

“In spite of the challenges in the Niger Delta, where much of our supply comes from onshore and shallow water, we have faced both technical and non-technical hurdles.

“Technically, we needed to continue developing new gas resources,” he said.

Ojulari noted that persistent pipeline attacks affected oil production and exposed vulnerabilities in gas supply.

He added, “There is still much to be done to unlock gas exploration. Some third parties have ready gas, but the structure and framework to bring the gas to market and maximize capacity utilisation and profitability have been lacking.

“That is why this agreement is a dream come true for Nigeria’s energy sector and a proud moment for the founding partners, who welcomed other parties into this venture,” he said.

Ojulari reaffirmed the commitment to realising the Presidential Executive Orders for the industry while working with partners to unlock opportunities for collective prosperity, in line with national gas development targets for incremental production.

“The landmark GSAs are a game-changer for Nigeria’s gas industry, enhancing local gas production capacity and improving supply, both critical to the country’s energy security, industrialisation goals, and economic growth.”

Providus Bank and Polaris Bank have been announced as additional sponsors of the QEDNG Creative Powerhouse Summit.

They join First Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria LNG (NLNG) and Shell in supporting the landmark event.

Mighty Media Plus Network Limited, publishers of the online newspaper QEDNG, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday.

The company described the sponsorship as a strong show of belief in Nigeria’s creative sector.

Speaking on the addition of the two banks, Olumide Iyanda, chief executive officer of Mighty Media Plus Network Limited and convener of the summit, said Providus Bank had consistently demonstrated its commitment to creativity.

“Providus Bank’s support is a demonstration of its strong commitment to promoting the creative industry,” Iyanda said, adding that “Through its partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria on the N5 billion Creative Fund, the bank has supported filmmakers and other creatives.”

Iyanda explained that the Creative Fund was created to address the challenges of traditional bank financing by offering a more flexible and accessible model.

The goal, he said, was to make funding easier for creators while ensuring accountability and long-term impact.

“By joining us as a sponsor, Providus Bank is reaffirming that creativity is not just an art; it is a serious business that can grow jobs, drive innovation and shape our economy,” he added.

Providus Bank is also known for promoting creativity, culture and community through events such as the World Poetry Day celebration and The Hive.

On Polaris Bank, Iyanda commended its N1.5 billion Creative Sector Fund launched in partnership with Woodhall Capital, the Lagos State Government and the United Kingdom.

The initiative is designed to give entrepreneurs in fashion, film, music, and digital content better access to structured financing.

“Polaris Bank’s work in this space is a perfect fit for what we are doing,” Iyanda said.

“They are investing in people who have the ideas, the talent and the drive to tell authentic stories, build strong brands and export Nigerian culture to the world,” he added.

He also praised the bank’s Creative Currency Podcast.

“The podcast is a smart move. It connects creatives with those who can fund, guide, and open doors for them. That is exactly the kind of bridge we want this summit to build,” he said.

FirstBank, NLNG and Shell are also backing the summit.

Iyanda said FirstBank’s support builds on its long-running First@arts initiative, which has financed, advised, and promoted Nigerian creatives and cultural events.

NLNG, he noted, was celebrated for its prestigious prizes in literature, science and literary criticism, each rewarding excellence and innovation.

Shell’s contribution, he added, reflected its commitment to education and community-focused development.

The QEDNG Creative Powerhouse Summit will hold on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The event will start at 10:00 a.m.

With the theme “Financing as Catalyst for a Thriving Creative Economy”, the summit will gather creatives, investors, policymakers and business leaders.

Discussions will focus on practical solutions to the funding challenges facing Nigeria’s creative industries.
