The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has reiterated its stance on professionalising its workforce and strengthening collaborations with strategic partners such as the Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM, in order to enhance operational efficiency.

The Executive Vice Chairman, EVC, of NCC Prof. Umar Danbatta, stated this while receiving a delegation led by the Acting Registrar and CEO of NIM, Jude Iheanacho, who paid a courtesy visit to the NCC Head Office recently.

Director, Human Capital and Administration, Usman Malah, who represented the EVC at the event, noted that the commission placed a high premium on capacity building and was implementing policies geared towards achieving this vital objective.

Malah also said that it was in the commission’s best interest to deepen its collaboration with NIM, through strategic partnering, so that NCC could improve organisational efficiency and regulatory excellence.

Speaking further, Malah declared that the commission’s faith in the transformational capacity of skilled human resources was demonstrated by the commission’s support to staff who were members of the institute.

The support includes prompt payment of membership fees for its staff; and subscription to and participation in NIM’s mandatory capacity building programmes for members.

Malah promised to make recommendations to the management of commission to take additional steps in solidifying the strategic relationship, such as setting up a joint committee of the two bodies to draw up modalities for inter-agency collaboration.

Iheanacho, in his response, lauded NCC for its positive contribution to the telecommunications sector and also said a highly-skilled, highly professional workforce was needed to regulate the dynamic, competitive, and highly intellectual world of telecommunications.

The NCC, Ihenacho observed, had been an exemplary public sector institution noted for its proactive, all-inclusive engagement of stakeholders in the telecoms sector.

The NIM chief executive, who acceded that there was a need for strategic partnership between the two organisations, also declared that there were a variety of emergent upskilling programmes by NIM aimed at ensuring that Nigeria was in tune with global trends.

Iheanacho also informed the commission that programmes such as the Mandatory Continuing Professional Education Programme; and the Continuing Learning and Development programmes were examples of programmes that dealt with contemporary issues in management which NCC could leverage for improved workplace efficiency.

The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) was established in 1961, though the enabling Act, the Nigerian Institute of Management (Establishment) Act was enacted by the National Assembly on July 19, 2003.

The objectives of the institute include the development of good management, professionalising management, and improving and standardising management in Nigeria.

The reception of the NIM team and the interaction took place at the NCC Conference Hall and was attended by the Head of Administration at NCC, Ibrahim Aliyu; Head of Human Capital, Safiya Jijji, who was represented by Folorunsho Mesele, a Principal Manager in the Human Capital Department.

The National Consultative Front, NCFront and the Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, have commiserated with the late Gani Fawehinmi family over the death of their son, Mohammed.

The groups, in a joint condolence statement issued by the spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Okunniyi, expressed shock and regret over the exit of Mohammed Fawehinmi.

The groups said Nigeria and the human race had lost a man who was a terror to the oppressors of the masses.

The groups said Mohammed was an icon and a selfless defender of people’s rights throughout his adult life as he was always challenging the excesses of government and the ruling class.

They asserted that the Nigerian civil society had lost an emerging giant in the current rescue mission of leaders of conscience and fresh breed leaders ahead of its planned 2023 intervention.

Mohammed was said to be one of the leaders of conscience, who initiated the NCFront in 2019 at MKO Abiola’s residence in company of Prof Pat Utomi, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Senator Shehu Sanni, Comrade Isa Arẹmu, Alhaji Shettimah Yerima, Prof Anthony Kila, among others during an event organised by the June 12 Democracy Movement to chart the way forward to save Nigeria.

The groups said they would “immediately list the fiery activist in the Hall of Fame of June 12 Democracy Movement, as he shall henceforth be remembered annually on every Democracy Day in Nigeria as one of the greatest heroes of the people, who struggled for the restoration of civil rule and democracy in Nigeria.”

A mass movement, the Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, has expressed sadness over the death of ace actress, Rachael Oniga, promising to immortalise her.

Oniga died at the age of 64 after a brief illness.

NIM described Oniga as one of its national ambassadors.

In a statement issued by its Director General, Mr. Olawale Okunniyi, the group said Oniga as a member of its leadership helped to promote the ideals and values of the group tremendously.

She was said to be the voice of Nollywood at the inaugural meeting of the movement in 2017.

She was said to be a very committed ambassador of the movement agenda to take back power to the masses of Nigeria and she was involved in the movement accords in some states of the federation and at the national level.

“Lady Racheal Oniga, a title chief of Ile Ife, installed by Oba Sijuwade Olubuse, lived and died as a voice of the voiceless.

“Our consolation in her exit, is drawn from a life well spent by the screen goddess and ambassador of the voiceless. We therefore pray for the repose of her soul and fortitude to bear this huge loss by her children and family members. We hope to explore a way of immortalising her legacies in succeeding days. Racheal Oniga lives on,” said the group.

Third Force Movement of Nigeria under the umbrella of Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, has reaffirmed its commitment to the planned nationwide mass protests against bad political system and mal-governance in Nigeria.

The protest is tagged “#Revolution Now!” and starts on Monday, August 5, 2019.

NIM said for the avoidance of doubt, “this historic Nationwide Revolutionary Action initiated by Nigerian Masses and Youths, is purely aimed at overthrowing the corrupt and warped political system being operated by the country as well as changing the oppressive ruling class in Nigeria.

It stated that it had directed all its “members, allies and supporters in the Third Force Movement, especially of the Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, Alliance for Defence of Democracy, ADD and some revolutionary political parties to join and support the historic mass action for a New Nigeria as already endorsed by icons like Prof Wole Soyinka, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Dr Oby Ezekwesili among others.”

It stated that it was for that reason that it condemned “in unequivocal stance the subversive arrest and detention of one of the key facilitators of #Revolution Now!, Sowore Omoyele; the leader of the Take It Back Movement, TIB, who was forcefully abducted in his home at about 1.25 am today, Saturday and whisked away to an unknown destination.”

“We hereby demand from the Nigerian Presidency and its witch hunting Department of State Security, DSS apparatus, the immediate release of Omoyele Sowore, as his continued incarceration will not deter our forces and cadres from embarking on the planned mass action against the oppressors of the Nigerian peoples on Monday as earlier scheduled

“Finally, we wish to state strongly that peaceful protest or public demonstration against state or government policies is a Constitutional right of every citizen of Nigeria and so, it is illegal to criminalise or victimise any citizen of Nigeria for openly expressing contrary stand against government’s policies and programme as currently being done by the Nigerian Presidency against the Monday mass protests of the Nigerian peoples,” the group said.
