Monogamy is a tough call. One-man-one-woman can only be the title of a book, it can’t be law or most men end up in jail. Fine, women cheat too but for today, let’s just concentrate on the men.

Men are used to hunting. They see a woman endowed with a beauty queen waist that tapers into South-African hips and dive right into it. It’s what they do. And it is what we know. But when a man gets propositioned, when he is hunted or toasted, he starts singing in tongues. He can resist hunting, even if it is for a while but being hunted is a different matter altogether. He most likely, most often will not say no to a girl offering it on a platter of gold. A few men, a few times but most men will grab with both hands what a woman offers. I can’t say I know what goes on in the mind of a man when a girl not only hangs tantalizing stuff all over him but I know he most likely is not thinking of the consequences. He’s too far gone, too high up in cloud nine to care about the morning after. You see, girls, why you should worry more about who goes after your husband instead of who your husband goes after?

When a man has been in a relationship for a long time, his ego begins to suffer. He needs someone to reassure him he’s still ‘quoted on the stock exchange’. He needs someone to tell him he’s still cool. Yeah, he’s 55 and bald and his wife loves him ‘to die’ but he no longer loves himself that much. He wants to hear it. He needs to feel good. So, when a woman, especially a younger one winks at him or he winks at one and she winks back, he wants to follow things to a logical conclusion. His ego needs a booster and what more can be more reassuring than a satisfying quickie when missus is not looking, right? At least, that’s what he thinks. Until he gets into trouble.

When a man’s partner loses interest in what he once had interest in, he feels a strong need to go hunting and a man in a hunting mode is a dangerous man. For instance if he was used to spending the weekend with his wife and suddenly the wife gets all busy a la corporate executive globe-trotting or China to Dubai businesswoman, bros may want to fill in the gap with someone else. Yes now, you think it’s every man who will start going to mid-week service because his wife is not available? It will start innocently and one thing will lead to two things and so on and so forth.

READ ALSO: Over billing: NERC fines AEDC N1.69bn, others too

Sometimes a man may have moved on from his wife emotionally, though he’s still living with her and they still wear ‘aso-ebi’. He may still be in the marriage because of the children. It could even be for financial reasons and he does not want to hurt her, so, he keeps the home for conveniences and appearances but goes elsewhere for love and loving. He maintains two fronts, two faces, believing everybody is happy. A man who’s fallen out of love is a man prone to hunting expeditions. When it comes to extra-curricular activities, men only see win-win.

When a man’s partner loses interest in what he once had interest in, he feels a strong need to go hunting and a man in a hunting mode is a dangerous man.

When there’s plenty of argument in a relationship, a man wants to go somewhere else to be comforted. Men love to be comforted, yes. They need regular pats on the head, constant stroking, all of which are not available in a relationship riddled with hot verbal exchanges.

Do you still make love or you just do perfunctory stuff to fulfill all righteousness? Is there even an ounce of spontaneity and creativity left in your relationship or it is just a duty that must be done? Do a self-evaluation. Do you still make an effort with your sex life or that part of your relationship is dead and buried? Where a woman no longer makes an effort to tantalize her man, the man may likely develop a taste for another.

Because his friends are doing it, he may also want to try it. At first, it will be about just hanging out with the boys and having a beer or two and going down memory lane. Soon, the fine babes with tiny waists will arrive and his friends will call him ‘woman wrapper’. And then one day, he’ll do it to belong. And you thought only your 16-year-old son needs protection from peer pressure? His dad too!

If it’s the woman who wears the pants in the relationship, the man is likely to feel less of a man and seek another relationship where he is in control and feels appreciated. It’s the way God made them, and us. Men are wired to give and provide. Where they are subjected to taking and being provided for, the poor folks feel like their third legs have been yanked off. Could be the reason they take money from the rich wives to give ‘small small’ girls down the road.

What Madam doesn’t know won’t hurt her, abi? So, if he had done it before and gotten away with it, he may want to do it again. I guess that is why many men are repeat offenders. They like to sneak around, dodge and tell lies. It makes it all the more exciting. Some even put up a bold face when caught. Well, a sinner is a sinner, caught or not.

‘If the girl cheated on him, the man may feel obligated to even the score. He may feel like this is the only way he can get back at her for hurting him. If he’s gotten cheated on more than once, some men may think cheating is a way of getting back at all of the cheating women they have regretfully dated.’ Can you imagine that? Can you imagine a man cheating because he wants to pay back his woman in her own coin? This last part? It’s sicker than the cheating itself. Okay, let’s hear your thoughts if you disagree.

Scores of commuters escaped death on Saturday when a loaded petroleum tanker suddenly went up in flames at Ajia Junction, Ibadan-Ife Road, Ibadan.

The driver of the tanker was attempting to divert to another lane when it caught fire at about 4.45 p.m.

The incident left a mini truck, one commuter bus, a Micra car, one tricycle and two motorcycles burnt.

A witness, Biodun Ayoola, said that all the occupants of the affected vehicles and cycles hurriedly took to their heels sighting the petrol tanker on fire.

READ ALSO: Nigeria, China forge unbreakable bonds, sign $3.3bn agreement

According to Ayoola, the ongoing construction of a pedestrian bridge at Ajia Junction made the contractor to block one lane, diverting vehicles to the other lane.

“The petrol tanker caught fire while trying to link the other lane and exploded but we thank God that all the occupants of the affected vehicles and motorcycles escaped from the scene before the explosion,” he said.

Mr Mayowa Odewo, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Oyo State, confirmed the incident.

Odewo said officers of the command in Egbeda axis were still at the scene, and that a statement would be issued immediately after completing the operations.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, has resigned his appointment.

The resignation also affected his position as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.

Ngelale made the announcement of his resignation in a statement he issued on Saturday.

According to him, he tendered his letter of resignation to the Chief of Staff to the President, on Friday, saying he was proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence.

The reason for his action, he said, was to be able to attend to medical matters affecting his “immediate, nuclear family.”

He stated that the decision was taken after significant consultations with his family over the past several days as “a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home.”

Ngelale, however, said he looked forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permitted.

Ngelale’s statement reads in full:

“On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President informing my office that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate, nuclear family.

“While I fully appreciate that the ship of state waits for no man, this agonizing decision — entailing a pause of my functions as the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity and Official Spokesperson of the President; Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen — was taken after significant consultations with my family over the past several days as a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home.

“I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit.

“I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and I during this time.”

By FUNKE EGBEMODE

It is God who gives babies. It is the God-assigned duties of parents to nurse and nurture those babies into adulthood. It is a long journey, onerous task to grow babies into adults. Every parent, every aunt and uncle knows that that long journey is bumpy, painful and lonely. Many times we stumble. Many times we get it right. Occasionally parents fail, sometimes woefully. Sometimes because they did not do the right thing at the right time or failed altogether to do anything. Sometimes, circumstances just work against both parents and children and things go totally belly up and everybody lives miserably afterwards.

What all that mean is that we can safely say there are successful parents and not-so-successful parents. When a child turns out bad, the parents get blamed. It is generally assumed, in this society, that a man or a woman cannot claim to be totally successful if their children are bad. And who are bad children? A bad child is one who drops out of school into nothing. That teenage girl who could not write her O’level examination because she got pregnant in her fifth year in secondary school is a bad girl. The boy who sneaks out to smoke ‘kolos’ or ‘shisha’ when his mates are studying is not a good fruit. That girl that prefers being runs-girl to writing UTME or the one who has had three children for three men is bad. The one who joined a cult and ended up being rusticated from the university and the one who stole his mother’s gold to fund a birthday party for his friends are the ones nobody is proud of. The Yahoo Boy and his Yahoo Plus friends whose lives were cut short in a car crash on their way from a ‘loud’ party are cited as examples of bad parenting. A bad child is the one other parents keep their children away from.

Bad children are private pains. They keep their parents awake at night. They make their parents weep when nobody is looking. Their mothers’ heads are permanently bowed. A bad child is like a sore on the forehead that won’t heal. It is there for all to see and there is nothing you can do about the pain and the oozing odour.

A child that turns out bad is one of the worst things that can happen to any parent. The pain is worsened where and when the parents of this bad child are successful in their careers and or business. At work, they are respected role models. At home are reminders of the other side of their lives.

So daddies and mummies, how will you rate yourself in the parenting department? Would you say you have given parenting your best shot? Do you know your children, their strengths and weaknesses? Are you as devoted to your divine assignment as custodians of these children as you are to your career and business? Do you treat them like the files on your table? Do you know that your children are the true measure of how you spend your days, your real investments? Maybe not in Europe and America but in Nigeria, people sneer behind your back when you win awards or spray money at parties if your children are considered bad children.

So, I ask again, do you really know your children? Have you done your duties to them and God?

When you haul a child who does not respect you or fear God off to America at age 17 and he gets there and starts experimenting with everything from older women to crack cocaine, will you say you couldn’t have done better? Do your children know the consequences of their actions or they think if they do bad stuff they are hurting mummy? Have you told your daughter that she will live the rest of her life with the choices she makes today? Does your son know that he will hurt himself more if he continues to prefer tequila to water and night clubs to church or mosque? Do our children know that the people they hang out with will make or mar them, their destinies? Have you grown them or spoilt them? Have you taught them hard work or do you just give them everything they ask because you don’t want them to suffer like you had to? Please remind yourself that it is the hard road you walked that shaped your success. The softies you are raising will always need to lean on you and you would turn in your grave if you could look back from the other side at the wreckage of your legacies, the choices you made in raising them.

Modern daddy, what does your son do when you are not looking, bar-hopping, crack coke-sniffing or rape? Modern mummy, how many abortions have you ‘brokered’ for your daughter? Does she still have a womb?

Of course, there are bad children of good parents. There are good children of bad parents, not many of them but I’ve met them. There are also good children of good parents. And then there are bad children of bad parents. Even as you read this, deep down you know the category you fall into. A parent who needs 50 houses to feel good is not likely to be a good parent of good children. The sick things we do will eventually infect our children.

Do your children ‘chill’ on Sunday mornings or go to church? Are they irritated when your pastor visits? Alhaji, do your children go to the mosque on Friday or it is a day for sleeping in? Do you pray with your children or you have left their destinies in the hands of the society and modernity? There are parents who believe it is only in Nigeria that praying and prayers are needed. Well, neither Islam nor Christianity originated in Nigeria. It is part of our job description to do everything to raise great children.

READ ALSO: NELFUND receives another N2m refund from former beneficiary

Your children know all the names of all wines and spirits and the location of all the night clubs in the city. They hang out with all kinds of friends whose parents and background you don’t know and you call your carelessness modern parenting. Should your 26-year-old even still be living at home without picking any of the housekeeping bills? Was that the way you were raised? This pampering, this my-children-will-not-suffer-what-I-suffered mantra is why today’s children do not know that they must climb the stairs to get to the next level. If they can’t find an elevator, they just throw their hands up and mope.

You, daddy, have you taught them that the Prado and G-Wag in your garage did not happen overnight, that you paid a price, sweated and worked your way from the slum to GRA? The children you spoon-feed today will pawn away the precious stones you starved to acquire.

Daddy, neither you nor your wife is a devotee of Amadioha or Sango, so why does your son weave his hair? Is that also modern parenting? Why do your sons spot dreadlocks they were not born with? Why do our daughters and sons go to the same salons? Why can’t we differentiate girls from boys unless we look closely. Both of them wear earrings, nose rings, studs and even paint their nails. Fashion? I’m too ‘bush’ not to be worried.

Oga, your Yoruba son is steadily looking like a tribal chief of an interesting group in a remote community in East Africa. Did you just say he’s an artiste? Wow! He has not released a single track that anybody has heard or even had a waka-pass role in a movie. Why does he have more ‘effizy’ than the multi-millionaire successful artistes? Maybe it is just fashion, fashion funded by daddy’s hard-earned money. It’s sad when a man respected in business circles has a 30-year-old son who cannot watch over his business for even one week.

Modern daddy, what does your son do when you are not looking, bar-hopping, crack coke-sniffing or rape? Modern mummy, how many abortions have you ‘brokered’ for your daughter? Does she still have a womb?

Fellow parents, take a sincere look at your children and score yourself. Are you proud of what came out of your loins and what you have done with the innocent baby who made you so happy when you held her/him for the first time? Is God proud of your parenting? We will all answer for our bad parenting or over-parenting here on earth and in the hereafter. That is for sure.

Gabkwet said the deployment followed an intelligence report received on August 31, that the terrorist kingpin and his group were sighted near Sabon Gida forest along Sabon Birni Road.

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has announced September 14 as the last day for the completion of the mandatory verification and linkage of SIMs and NINs.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement signed by NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka.

The commission has, therefore, directed all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to complete exercise on September 14.

“Effective September 15, 2024, the Commission expects that no SIM operating in Nigeria will be without a valid NIN,” the commission said.

It urged all members of the public who had not yet completed their NIN-SIM linkage, or who had faced issues due to verification mismatches, to visit their service providers promptly to update their details before the deadline.

It suggested that alternatively, the approved self-service portals were available for that purpose.

The statement reads in full:

“The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, is pleased to announce significant progress in the Federal Government’s 2020 policy to link all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) to National Identity Numbers (NINs). To date, over 153 million SIMs have been successfully linked to a NIN, reflecting an impressive compliance rate of 96 per cent, a substantial increase from 69.7 per cent in January 2024.

READ ALSO: NAFDAC speaks on controversy over bread baked in Nigeria

“As we approach the final phase of this critical process, the NCC seeks the continued cooperation of all Nigerians to achieve 100 per cent compliance. The complete linkage of all SIM cards to NINs is essential for enhancing the trust and security of our digital economy. By verifying all mobile users, this policy strengthens confidence in digital transactions, reduces the risk of fraud and cybercrime, and supports greater participation in e-commerce, digital banking, and mobile money services. “This, in turn, promotes financial inclusion and drives economic growth.

“Through collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the NCC has uncovered alarming cases where individuals possessed an unusually high number of SIM cards—some exceeding 100,000. The Commission also remains committed to working with security agencies and other stakeholders to crack down on the sale of pre-registered SIMs, thereby safeguarding national security and ensuring the integrity of mobile numbers in Nigeria.

“To ensure full compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage policy, the NCC has directed all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to complete the mandatory verification and linkage of SIMs to NINs by September 14, 2024.

“Effective September 15, 2024, the Commission expects that no SIM operating in Nigeria will be without a valid NIN.

“We urge all members of the public who have not yet completed their NIN-SIM linkage, or who have faced issues due to verification mismatches, to visit their service providers promptly to update their details before the deadline. Alternatively, the approved self-service portals are available for this purpose.

“The NCC also reminds the public that the sale and purchase of pre-registered SIMs are criminal offences punishable by imprisonment and fines. We encourage citizens to report any such activities to the Commission via our toll-free line (622) or through our social media platforms.

“The Commission thanks the general public for its continued cooperation as we work together to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.”

By FUNKE EGBEMODE

It’s been going on for years, maybe three, maybe more or less. Everybody expects the journey to culminate at the usual final bus stop. And true to peoples’ expectations it looks like the normal thing will definitely happen. The invitation cards are out, the wedding trousseau complete. She has made trips and trips to the fashion designers for fittings and more fittings. The cows have been paid for and a five-tiered cake ordered.

His people have chosen their own ‘aso-ebi’ and so have the bride-to-be’s friends and family. The reception take-away plates are ready and all members of the bridal train are set for rehearsal.

Then comes the morning of the D-Day! The day breaks like any other day. Everybody is up at dawn, attending to the final details. Some are supervising the caterers, the bride’s brothers and uncles set up the canopies and arrange for the drinks to be iced. As early as eight o’ clock, the sun is out. The bride’s friends lay out her beautiful dress and accessories, arguing over the appropriate colour of lipstick she should wear. The make-up artist arrives with her million-naira make-up suitcases. The photographers have two cameras each hung around their necks.

More than an hour later, the bride steps out, into the gleaming white Mercedes Benz G-Wagon decorated for the occasion. It rolls out of her parents’ compound and heads for the church. She is leaving her home of over 28 years for the last time as a spinster. When she comes back, she’ll be wearing a wedding band that binds her to her heartthrob. Behind her veil, she smiles and heaves a sigh of relief.

At last, the search is over. She has a man to call her own now and is set to keep her marriage vows no matter the size or shade of thorns involved.

Smiling for the cameras (both photo and video), the bride-to-be majestically walks into the church. She’s totally breathtaking as she should be. She looks around for her groom but was told he’s yet to appear. Well, and he was the one who repeatedly told her not to be late or else he’ll marry one of the choirgirls. It was a joke they’d both laughed at.

A man who is not man enough to show up on his wedding day is an animal. He deserves nothing but painful, slow death. He should be made to pay bit by bit, until he begs for mercy

The time is already a quarter after 10 o’ clock – the appointed time for the ceremony to take off. Poor bride is trying to hide her fear. Her father gets up to inquire while the chief bridesmaid fans her friend. The officiating ministers too are getting impatient and complaining about the young men of today.

READ ALSO: Alleged misconduct: 27 high court judges to face NJC probe panels

11 o’ clock! The groom is yet to surface. Throwing convention to the winds, the bride lifts her veil and starts pacing up and down, her lips moving in prayer. God, where could he be? Maybe he has a huge hangover from yesterday’s bachelor’s eve party. Maybe their car broke down. God, don’t let him be ill. Maybe his suit or shirt got burnt when it was being ironed.

11:30! The family and friends of the next couple who are getting married at noon begin to arrive. The emissary sent to the groom’s house returns, wearing a long sad face. He calls the bride’s father aside and tells him the bad news. The groom has left town under the pretext of going to gas up the car for the day’s activities. The old man’s face said it all. The bride slumped to the ground in all her sad glory.

Half the church erupts in tears, cursing the groom. The end of a dream! There won’t be any marriage vows now. No till death do us part. Poor girl’s dream of living happily ever after with her prince is shattered – maybe forever. The wedding is off!

It’s a tear-inducing sad movie. It has happened to many women – maybe more like it will still occur. Why do grooms bail out at the last minutes? Is it callousness or cowardice?

Is it juju or mental problem? According to a friend and medical doctor, parents’ pressure sometimes causes this heart-breaking saga.

“Some parents are high handed and overbearing, especially where they are rich. They are used to getting what they want and descend as low as using their own sons as pawns or business strategy.

A friend of mine did the disappearing act a few years ago. His father wanted him to marry a business associate’s daughter – a kind of business merger. The marriage would have brought huge financial gains to my friend’s father but he already had a girl he wanted to marry. The girl he loved was in America and he too is an American citizen. When his father told him his plans, he protested. The old man started blackmailing him. Knowing he couldn’t win otherwise, Kay went on with the arrangement. He couldn’t tell the girl involved because she seemed to be in love with him and she would have messed up Kay’s carefully laid out plans. So, while his bachelor’s eve party was on, he took the midnight flight out to New York. It’s sad for the girl but what’s the point of living with a wife you don’t want, least of all love?

But many women think men who do it are callous. And I agree too. If a man has no intention of coming to say his own part of ‘I do’ then he should be brave enough to tell the girl instead of leading her on. Why let a girl order a bridal dress, cake and the lot when you have no intention of showing up on the wedding day? It’s pure meanness. A man who can do that is capable of killing. Some even go to the extent of abandoning a pregnant bride! Can you imagine the pain? Such men should have their necks tied to a moving ‘molue’ and dragged through the busiest road, so he can die slowly. No other punishment is good enough.

And I can assure you that many women won’t let a man who abandons them on their wedding day go scot-free. I can’t imagine why any woman should feel anything but hatred for a man who humiliated her in such a way, in front of family and friends and even ex-boyfriends. Gosh, it’s the presence of ex-boyfriends at such scenes that is the worst. Imagine, the guy you’ve spurned and told off having the last stupid laugh!

Oh, I’m sure the men will come up with different reasons why they do it. Let them. I can come up with a long list of horrible consequences of such reasons. A man who is not man enough to show up on his wedding day is an animal. He deserves nothing but painful, slow death. He should be made to pay bit by bit, until he begs for mercy. Even then, does he deserve mercy? What would you do to a man who abandons you on your wedding day?

GCR Ratings, GCR, has affirmed the national scale long-term and short-term issuer ratings of AA+(NG) and A1+(NG) respectively accorded to Dangote Industries Limited (DIL).

GCR in its recent report also affirmed the national scale long-term issue rating of AA+(NG) accorded to each of Dangote Industries Funding Plc’s Series 1 NGN10.5Bn Tranche A and NGN177.1Bn Tranche B Bonds and Series 2 NGN112.4Bn Senior Unsecured Bond.

The outlook on the ratings has been revised to Evolving from Stable previously.

According to GCR, “the ratings were affirmed on the prospects of significant growth in earnings following the commencement of operations at the new petrochemical refinery and robust earnings expectation from the other businesses.”

In the report, the rating agency decried the impact of naira devaluation on DIL performance stating that, “the ratings are constrained by the adverse impact of the currency devaluation on the profitability and financial position of the group, given its significant foreign debt exposure.”

GCR, in recognition of the potential of the Dangote Group, added, “The group’s business profile is bolstered by the commencement of refining operations in February 2024 (with the production of diesel, Naphtha, heavy fuel oil, and aviation fuel), which now complements the already well-diversified group businesses.

READ ALSO: JUST IN: NCC issues directive to telcos on tariffs transparency

“Accordingly, we expect the group’s business fundamentals to become increasingly tilted towards oil refining, given its size as the largest refinery in Africa and Europe. We also expect strong export sales potential given the recent debut exports of refined oil to Europe. The non-oil businesses continue to demonstrate strong earnings generating capacity and market leaderships in their respective sectors, underpinned by the above-peer production capacities and favourable demographics.

“We have maintained a positive peer comparison consideration for DIL underpinned by the importance of the refinery to the Nigerian economy. However, we have lowered the extent of support applicable under this rating component because we expect the support factors to translate to substantive enhancements to the group’s business and financial profiles over the outlook period. In 2022, DIL raised a cumulative NGN300Bn in Series 1 (Tranches A and B) and Series 2 Senior Unsecured Bonds issued by its sponsored special purpose vehicle, Dangote Industries Funding Plc. Being senior unsecured debt sponsored by DIL, the Series 1 Tranches A and B Bonds and the Series 2 Bond rank pari passu with all other senior unsecured creditors of the group.

“Therefore, the Bonds bear the same national scale long-term rating as that accorded to DIL and any change in DIL’s long-term corporate rating would impact the Bonds ratings. We have reviewed the draft trustees’ bond performance report dated 24 May 2024 and note that the coupons have been paid as and when due and there were no breaches to any covenants and pledges in the trust deeds.

“However, the group remains highly exposed to volatile energy cost dynamics and is reliant on importation of gypsum for cement, raw sugar input, and crude oil for the refinery.”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced the shutting down of the national grid by the organized labour, a situation which has led to black out nationwide.

The announcement was made on Monday in a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.

The spokesman said at about 1:15 a.m., the Benin Transmission Operator under the Independent System Operations unit of TCN reported that all operators were driven away from the control room and that staff that resisted were beaten while some were wounded in the course of forcing them out of the control room and without any form of control or supervision, the Benin Area Control Center was brought to zero.

A list of other transmission sub-station shut down was given.

The spokesman said efforts were, however, going on to recover the grid.

The statement by the spokesman reads in full:

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby informs the general public that the Labour Union has shut down the national grid, resulting in black out nationwide. The national grid shut down occurred at about 2.19am this morning, 3rd June 2024.

“At about 1:15am this morning, the Benin Transmission Operator under the Independent System Operations unit of TCN reported that all operators were driven away from the control room and that staff that resisted were beaten while some were wounded in the course of forcing them out of the control room and without any form of control or supervision, the Benin Area Control Center was brought to zero.

“Other transmission substations that were shut down, by the Labour Union include the Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba and Osogbo Transmission Substations. Some transmission lines were equally opened due to the ongoing activities of the labour union.

READ ALSO: EXTRA: Visa application and where we are!

“On the power generating side, power generating units from different generating stations were forced to shut down some units of their generating plants, the Jebba Generating Station was forced to shut down one of its generating units while three others in the same substation subsequently shut down on very high frequency. The sudden forced load cuts led to high frequency and system instability, which eventually shut down the national grid at 2:19am.

“At about 3.23am, however, TCN commenced grid recovery, using the Shiroro Substation to attempt to feed the transmission lines supplying bulk electricity to the Katampe Transmission Substation. The situation is such that the labour Union is still obstructing grid recovery nationwide.

“We will continue to make effort to recover and stabilize the grid to enable the restoration of normal bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centres nationwide.”
