The Police Command in Nasarawa State has confirmed the death of 11 persons and more than 50 houses burnt in a communal crisis on Friday in Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities of Nasarawa local government area.

SP Ramhan Nansel, the command’s spokesman confirmed this in a statement on Saturday in Lafia.

He said that the incident occurred on Friday morning when suspected hoodlums carried out a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen.

“In the course of the attack, 11 people were killed, while about 52 houses were burnt in the two communities,” he said.

Nansel stated that Shetima Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, CP, in the state, had led a team on an on-the-spot assessment to the affected communities to ascertain the level of destruction and ensure that normalcy was restored.

He said that the CP expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and commiserated with the families of the deceased and the communities, assuring them of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice was served.

According to Nansel, the CP has ordered an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators of the heinous act and directed tactical teams and investigative units to ensure their prompt identification, arrest, and prosecution.

“To prevent any further breakdown of law and order, the Commissioner of Police has also directed the immediate reinforcement and sustained deployment of Police personnel to the affected areas,” he said.

He further explained that the police were working in collaboration with the military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to provide adequate security and restore lasting peace in the area.

The police spokesperson further said that a stakeholders’ meeting was held during the visit, where the CP urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to support ongoing investigations.

He, therefore, reassured members of the public that normalcy had been restored to the affected communities, while proactive measures had been taken to prevent any recurrence of violence.

The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has successfully rescued a three-day-old abducted baby and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.

SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state stated this in a statement to newsmen on Friday in Lafia.

The PPRO explained that on Sunday, March 29, at about 5:45 a.m. a report of the abduction was received from one Aisha Basa, a 19-year-old resident of Ungwan Bako, Orange market, Mararaba in Karu local government area.

The mother stated that her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider, had travelled to Lagos for business about five months earlier.

“She reported that on Saturday, March 28 at about 11:50 p.m. while she was asleep with her three-day-old baby in her house located at the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, two unidentified men broke into the house, threatened her and abducted the baby to an unknown destination.

“Upon receipt of the report, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, Commissioner of Police directed detectives of Mararaba ‘A’ Division to immediately visit the scene, and ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives on April 3rd, 2026 at about 4:00am arrested two suspects,” he added.

The police spokesperson further gave the details of the suspects as Furera Abdulrahman, 35 years, of Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39 years, of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market.

Nansel noted that the abducted baby boy was found in the possession of the suspects and was successfully rescued.

The police spokesperson further explained that during interrogation the suspects confessed to the crime and implicated an accomplice who is currently at large.

“The rescued baby was immediately taken to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was examined by a medical doctor, certified to be in good health.

“The child has since been reunited with his parents after being discharged from the hospital,” Nansel added.

He further said that the case was under investigation and would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Lafia, for further discreet investigation upon completion of preliminary inquiries.

The PPRO therefore reassured members of the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for necessary action.

The Police Command in Nasarawa State has rescued two kidnap victims and detained one suspect in separate operations across the state.

SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia.

Nansel described the development as another breakthrough in the command’s sustained efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

According to him, a patrol team of the Anti-Robbery Squad on Monday, February 3, at about 3:10 p.m., rescued one David O., a resident of Tudun Amba area of Lafia.

“The victim had boarded a commercial motorcycle from Lafia to Assakio. On reaching Kireyi Village, the motorcyclist diverted into a bush path and forcefully took him into the forest.

“Police operatives on routine patrol received intelligence on the incident and immediately launched a search operation. The victim was subsequently located in the bush and rescued, while the suspect fled the scene,” he said.

The police spokesperson added that the victim stated that he had been taken to a kidnappers’ den and managed to escape before the arrival of the police.

Similarly, Nansel said operatives attached to the Gitata Police Division arrested one Jamilu Salisu of Ditsenma, Katsina State, over the abduction of a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School, JSS, II student of UBE Gitata.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect abducted the victim beside a mosque in Gitata and took him into the forest.

“Police received information from a good Nigerian, who sighted the suspect while taking the victim toward a riverbank.

“Operatives swiftly mobilised to the area, arrested the suspect and rescued the victim, while one accomplice escaped and is currently at large,” he said.

Nansel said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Shetima Mohammed, had ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspect and directed a thorough investigation into the cases.

He assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while appreciating members of the public for providing timely and credible information that led to the successful operations.

The police spokesperson urged continued cooperation with security agencies to enhance public safety across the state.

The Police Command in Nasarawa State has rescued 17 children from suspected human traffickers in Karu local government area, LGA, of the state.

SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Lafia.

The PPRO described the feat as a significant breakthrough in the command’s sustained efforts to combat human trafficking and other related crimes in the state.

“Police personnel attached to Mararaba ‘A’ Division, Karu Local Government Area (LGA), while on stop-and-search duty at Sharp Corner, intercepted a white Volkswagen Sharon vehicle with registration number SHD 253 YU on Saturday, January 17, at about 5:50 p.m.

“The vehicle was driven by one Nanle John, male, aged 36 years, and had 17 passengers on board, comprising 11 boys and six girls, all within the ages of 10 to 19 years.

“Upon interrogation, the occupants were suspected to be victims of human trafficking from Shendam, Plateau State,” the PPRO said.

Nansel said further investigation revealed that both the driver and the passengers were travelling from Shendam to Kayama in Kwara State to meet one Umaru.

According to the statement, the said Umaru allegedly lured the victims with the promise of securing farming jobs for them in Kayama, Kwara State.

The Police spokesperson said that all efforts made to contact their parents, guardians or the said Umaru proved abortive, as all phone numbers provided were unreachable.

Nansel said that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, had ordered that the children be taken into protective custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Lafia.

He said the commissioner had also directed a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend all those connected to this suspected human trafficking network.

Nansel gave the names of the victims as Nanpar Zwaltur, Monday Zinglak, Ramnap Selchum, Nankat Ayuba, Burnan Yilkur, Timnan Ponfa, Nantip Nanbut, Kumlyan Nanbut, Zwalkur Zingdap and Nanfar Zwalkur.

Others are Nanpar Nanbut, Nanchu Bwoi, Godiya Lagang, Yulbyen Zingdap, Nanna Chirvyok, Sholyen Rapkat and Ladi Dinfa.

The PPRO, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and eradicating human trafficking in the state.

He called on members of the public to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has affirmed that the establishment of lithium processing and gold refining plants across Nigeria is positioning the country as Africa’s leading minerals hub and a critical global partner in minerals essential for the transition to green energy.

Alake made this assertion at a meeting with the Saudi Arabian Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Mr. Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, ahead of the Future Minerals Forum, FMF, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to Alake, Nigeria’s value-addition policy is already yielding tangible results, with a gold refining plant of very high purity now operational in Lagos, three additional gold refineries at various stages of development, and a $600 million lithium processing plant in Nasarawa State ready for commissioning.

He commended Saudi Arabia for its pivotal role in expanding opportunities for collaboration among governments across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe through the Future Minerals Forum, stressing that Nigeria is eager to deepen its partnership with the Kingdom by leveraging on areas of comparative advantage in solid minerals development.

“There are areas of comparative advantage where Saudi Arabia excels and others where Nigeria has strengths. We are keen on structuring agreements that will enable us engage meaningfully and constructively. Priority areas include capacity building, training of mining professionals, technology transfer, and particularly exploration, where Saudi Arabia has demonstrated some expertise,” Alake stated.

He further noted that Nigeria’s vast landmass is endowed with abundant critical minerals and rare earth elements required by the global economy, underscoring the importance of leveraging the FMF platform to fine-tune actionable partnerships based on fairness equity and mutual benefit.

Recalling engagements following the FMF 2025, Alake revealed that a joint working group comprising the Nigerian delegation and the Saudi Chamber of Commerce has been active over the past year, adding that its report was ready and would be presented before the close of the current forum.

The Minister also highlighted mineral traceability, Environmental, Social and Governance standards, ESG,and mine-pit remediation as priority areas requiring collaboration.

He emphasized that mineral traceability boosts investor confidence and should form a core component of any partnership, alongside clear implementation timelines and robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.

In his remarks, Minister Al-Khorayef reaffirmed Nigeria’s status as a longstanding ally of Saudi Arabia and agreed on the need for a practical and actionable agreement on solid minerals development.

He proposed that the working group develop a draft MOU based on previous engagements for possible signing on the sidelines of the conference.

He also urged Nigeria to leverage the FMF platform to showcase investment opportunities in its mining sector to Saudi investors, while encouraging African countries to adopt advanced technologies in mining development, noting that Nigeria could benefit from Saudi Arabia’s progress in this area.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued four abducted children and reunited them with their families, following an intelligence-led operation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, SP Rahman Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lafia on Tuesday.

Nansel stated that the rescue followed a report received on December 31, 2025 at the New Nyanya Division in Karu local government area, concerning the disappearance of the children under suspicious circumstances.

According to him, the command immediately launched a discreet and thorough investigation upon receiving the report.

He explained that detectives of the command, working in collaboration with operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command, acted on credible intelligence to trace the suspects’ hideout, where the children were recovered unhurt.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the children were allegedly abducted by one Abraham Asoje, 28, in conspiracy with one Joy Bolaje, 29, both of Ado Junction in the LGA.

“The suspects reportedly kept the children in confinement before the timely intervention of the police,” Nansel added.

He further stated that the children had since been reunited with their families, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects, who were said to be at large.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Mohammed, to have commended the professionalism, dedication and swift response of the operatives involved in the operation.

Nansel added that the commissioner reassured residents of the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, particularly the safety of children and other vulnerable persons in the state.

The Police Command in Nasarawa State has said that it has rescued 39 foreign nationals suspected to be victims of human trafficking.

CP Shetima Mohammed-Jauro, Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State, disclosed this in a press briefing on the achievements of the command on Monday in Lafia.

He said that the suspected trafficked victims were rescued from Orange Market, Mararaba in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State.

He said that preliminary investigation revealed that a Malian national, one Abdullahi Berter (male), resident in Nigeria, allegedly lured the victims under the pretext of securing job for them in France.

The commissioner further said that the suspect illegally transported his victims from Mali to Orange Market, Mararaba, and held them captive in a bungalow.

He (Berter) instructed to invite more persons into Nigeria for an undisclosed operation.

“On Nov. 30, at about 10:40 hours, some persons suspected to be foreign nationals, who speak only French and Arabic, were reportedly sighted, about a week earlier, at Orange Market, Mararaba.

“Based on credible intelligence, I immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Mararaba ‘A’ Division to move to the scene for prompt action.

“A team of police detectives was immediately mobilised to the location, where 33 males and 7 females, all Malian nationals except one person from Ivory Coast, were rescued from a bungalow at Orange Market, Mararaba, Karu LGA,” Mohammed-Jauro said.

‎He further said that Berter, who initially fled upon learning of the presence of security operatives was however arrested following an intensive manhunt.

“All rescued victims will be formally handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and necessary action in line with the law,” the commissioner said.

He said that the command also arrested one Abubakar Adamu, a suspected kidnapper, and recovered a firearm and ammunition at Kertyo Village, Obi local government area of Nasarawa State.

“During interrogation, the suspect led detectives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit to his Ruga in Adudu, where a search was conducted.

“The following items were recovered: 1 AK-47 rifle, 2 Magazines and 11 rounds of live 7.62x39mm ammunition,” he said.

The Nigerian Army has arrested one of its personnel for alleged gunrunning, even as troops rescued eight kidnap victims and recovered arms and ammunition in recent operations across the country.

A credible source at Army Headquarters disclosed this on Monday in Abuja.

He said the soldier, identified as Lance Cpl. Saifullahi Garba (14NA/72/15972), was arrested in Marte local government area of Borno State with 711 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

According to the source, preliminary findings showed that the soldier had been accumulating the ammunition from clearance operations with the intent of supplying terrorists.

“He has since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.”

The source also confirmed that troops in Bama intercepted terrorists’ logistics movement and recovered 379 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

He added that ambush operations by troops in Borno and Yobe led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 11 rounds of ammunition and other items, with one terrorist neutralised.

In the North-Central, the source said troops rescued three more kidnap victims in Nasarawa, in addition to five earlier rescued.

He said the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke recovered 579 rustled cattle and two AK-47 rifles from armed herdsmen responsible for earlier attacks in Taraba.

In the South-South, the source said the troops of Operation Delta Safe arrested 10 armed suspects in Rivers disguised in OSPAC uniforms.

According to him, troops seized five pump-action rifles, locally made guns, charms, mobile phones and ₦1.7 million cash, while a separate raid in Ahoada East neutralised two cult leaders.

“These operations demonstrate both the army’s resolve to deny terrorists and criminals freedom of action and its vigilance to deal decisively with any betrayal within the ranks,” he said.
