… Achudume condemns hypocrisy in marriages

A heated but thought-provoking conversation on the rising menace of “side chicks,” infidelity and collapsing marriages took centre stage at the 43rd edition of Boiling Point Arena discourse, as veteran journalist, Mrs. Funke Egbemode and fiery preacher, Apostle Lawrence Achudume offered contrasting perspectives that ignited intense reactions among listeners.

The discourse, which examined the widening marital crisis in society, drew massive participation online and across multiple radio stations.

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Prof. Saka Matemilola, delivered brief keynote opening and closing remarks urging Nigerians to restore discipline, morality and family values.

But the defining moment of the discourse came when Funke Egbemode bluntly traced the growing “side chicks syndrome” to what she described as the greed, unchecked lust and insatiable appetite of many married men.

According to her, women labelled as “side chicks” often become convenient scapegoats while society deliberately overlooks the men who create and sustain the culture.

“Men want variety. Many are not satisfied with one woman. That is the bitter truth,” Egbemode declared during the session, arguing that numerous marital crises stemmed from male irresponsibility and emotional indiscipline rather than failures from women alone.

She maintained that some married men deliberately court younger women for ego, pleasure and social validation, despite having stable homes and supportive wives.

The veteran columnist further argued that social media glamour, materialism and the desperation for status had worsened the situation, making extramarital affairs appear fashionable among some elites.

Egbemode’s comments immediately stirred reactions when Apostle Lawrence Achudume responded from a different ideological and spiritual angle, suggesting that many of today’s secret affairs and “side chick” entanglements could have been avoided if some men embraced openness instead of hypocrisy.

In a remark that generated mixed reactions among participants, the cleric observed that traditional African society historically accommodated polygamous marriages openly, unlike today’s widespread culture of secrecy, deception and emotional manipulation.

Achudume argued that while he was not promoting promiscuity, hidden relationships and adulterous lifestyles had caused more emotional destruction than transparent family arrangements.

The cleric who is the General Overseer of Victory Life Bible Church International, lamented what he described as the moral contradictions of men who publicly profess fidelity while secretly maintaining multiple relationships outside marriage.

He, however, stressed that regardless of societal changes, discipline, honesty and fear of God remain central to sustaining healthy homes.

He warned that unchecked sexual immorality, pride and lack of communication were rapidly destroying marriages and exposing children to emotional trauma.

The sharp contrast between Egbemode’s position blaming male excesses and Achudume’s reference to polygamous structures created one of the most engaging moments of the discourse, with callers and online participants sharply divided over the controversial subject.

While some participants aligned with Egbemode’s argument that men largely fuel the “side chick” phenomenon, others agreed with Achudume that societal hypocrisy had worsened infidelity and dishonesty in modern marriages.

In his intervention, Oba Saka Matemilola cautioned that regardless of differing opinions, the stability of the family institution must remain paramount.

The monarch urged couples to embrace sincerity, patience and mutual respect, warning that the increasing collapse of marriages posed serious consequences for society and future generations.

The latest edition of Boiling Point Arena once again lived up to its reputation for confronting sensitive societal issues head-on, leaving audiences with difficult but necessary conversations on morality, fidelity and the changing realities of marriage in contemporary Nigeria.

Excitement is mounting ahead of the much-anticipated 43rd edition of Boiling Point Arena, Nigeria’s fast-rising public discourse platform, as leading voices from diverse professional backgrounds converge tonight for a robust conversation on the growing crisis confronting marriages and relationships in contemporary society.

The live discourse, scheduled for 8 p.m. today via Zoom and simultaneous broadcast on seven radio stations across Nigeria, will examine the theme: “Marriage in Modern Times: Love, Money, Loyalty and the Crisis of Commitment.”

The programme is expected to attract a wide spectrum of listeners, viewers, family advocates, religious leaders, young couples, students and social commentators eager to gain fresh perspectives on the changing realities of marriage in the 21st century.

Expected as Guest Speakers are renowned cleric and General Overseer, Victory Life Bible Church International, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, accomplished journalist and former President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mrs Funke Egbemode, as well as lawyer and cultural icon, Princess Yemi Bajowa.

Convener of the platform and media professional, Ayo Arowojolu, described the discourse as timely, considering the alarming rise in broken homes, emotional disconnection, financial tensions, infidelity, domestic abuse and declining commitment levels in relationships.

According to him, the latest edition of Boiling Point Arena is designed to provoke honest conversations capable of helping couples, intending partners and society at large to better understand the pressures threatening family stability in modern times.

The discourse, Arowojolu noted, would dissect the social, economic, moral and psychological factors fueling marital instability across different generations.

Boiling Point Arena has continued to distinguish itself as a credible public engagement forum where national and social issues are discussed with depth, candour and intellectual insight.

“Marriage as an institution is under intense pressure globally. Unfortunately, many people are suffering in silence while others are confused about what truly sustains relationships beyond emotions and material attractions. This conversation is therefore necessary and urgent,” he stated.

He further disclosed that audience participation would form a major highlight of the programme, with listeners and online participants expected to ask questions, share experiences and contribute perspectives during the interactive session.

Since its inception, Boiling Point Arena has hosted several high-impact conversations on governance, leadership, economy, education, health, media, spirituality and family life, earning commendation from stakeholders within and outside Nigeria.

Observers believe tonight’s edition may generate one of the most engaging conversations yet on the state of marriage and human relationships in contemporary society.

The discourse begins at exactly 8 p.m. and will be accessible globally through Zoom, while millions of radio listeners are expected to tune in through partner broadcast stations airing the programme live under the watch of frontline traditional ruler, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola who is to chair the session.

The highly anticipated May edition of the influential public discourse platform, Boiling Point Arena, is set to ignite another round of robust national conversation as three distinguished personalities have been unveiled to headline its next session.

The focus is the changing realities of marriage in modern society.

The event, scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2026 by 8 p.m. will examine the timely theme: “Marriage in Modern Times: Love, Money, Loyalty and the Crisis of Commitment.”

Now entering its 43rd edition, the monthly programme will feature a formidable trio of discussants: renowned cleric, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, celebrated columnist and former President, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, as well as an accomplished lawyer and cultural icon, Princess Yemi Bajowa.

The programme is hosted by media professional and public relations strategist, Dr. Ayo Arowojolu, and will be transmitted live via Zoom while simultaneously airing on multiple radio stations across Lagos, Ogun and Delta states.

Organisers say the combination of a respected faith leader, an influential public commentator, and a successful professional woman is expected to bring rich, diverse and practical perspectives to one of society’s most contested institutions.

The event will be chaired by foremost monarch, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, who also serves as keynote speaker for the two-hour discourse.

The session comes at a time when public debate continues to grow over rising divorce rates, delayed marriages, changing gender roles, economic hardship, social media pressures, and what many describe as an erosion of loyalty and long-term commitment in relationships.

According to the organisers, the discourse will critically interrogate whether marriage is merely evolving with changing times or drifting into a deeper crisis of values.

With a rapidly expanding audience across Nigeria and in the diaspora, Boiling Point Arena has become one of the country’s most talked-about platforms for fearless but balanced engagement on politics, economy, governance, leadership and social issues.

Organisers noted that this month’s edition is expected to attract huge interest, especially among youths, singles, married couples, relationship counsellors and religious leaders eager to understand the shifting landscape of marriage.

Partner stations include WASH 94.9FM, Sweet 107.1FM, Roots 97.1FM, Erimbe 94.7FM, Women Radio 91.7FM, Opera Tune 106.3FM and Kruzz 92.9FM, alongside cable television station NSTV on GOtv Channel 316.

Over the years, Boiling Point Arena has hosted an impressive roll call of eminent Nigerians including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Pat Utomi, Daniel Bwala, Prof. Toyin Falola, Prof. Wande Abimbola, Bishop Matthew Kukah, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, Akogun Tola Adeniyi, and Prof. Farooq Kperogi among others.

As public expectations build, the May edition promises to be another explosive, thought-provoking and solution-driven conversation on the future of family life in Nigeria and beyond.

The May edition of the widely followed public discourse platform, Boiling Point Arena, is set to turn attention to one of society’s most debated institutions—marriage.

The upcoming session is themed “Marriage in Modern Times: Love, Money, Loyalty and the Crisis of Commitment.”

Scheduled for Sunday May 10, 2026 at 8 p.m., the event will bring together scholars, professionals, faith leaders, and members of the public to interrogate the evolving dynamics shaping marital relationships in contemporary society.

Central to the discussion will be two notable guest speakers – Apostle Lawrence Achudume, General Overseer, Victory Life Bible Church International, and prominent lawyer and business tycoon, Princess Yemi Bajowa, both expected to bring contrasting but complementary perspectives to the subject.

The once-in-a-month current affairs programme, now in its 43rd edition, is to be transmitted via Zoom and broadcast live on seven partner radio stations across Lagos, Ogun and Delta states.

With an incredibly large online following and wide listenership base, Boiling Point Arena is anchored by a media professional and public relations strategist, Dr Ayo Arowojolu.

Foremost traditional ruler, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof Saka Adelola Matemilola, is the Keynote Speaker and chairman to herald the debate over a two-hour duration.

Organisers said the conversation would examine how modern realities—ranging from economic pressures and changing gender roles to social media influence and shifting cultural expectations—are redefining the foundations of marriage.

Once largely anchored on tradition, duty, and lifelong commitment, marriage is now increasingly influenced by considerations such as financial stability, emotional compatibility, personal ambition, and lifestyle choices.

While some argue that these changes reflect social progress, others believe they are contributing to rising cases of instability and declining commitment in relationships.

The session is expected to probe critical questions, including whether love alone is still sufficient to sustain marriage, the role of money in marital stability, and whether loyalty remains a core expectation or a negotiable value in modern relationships.

According to the organisers, the engagement will provide a platform for balanced reflection across moral, psychological, and socio-economic dimensions of marriage, while also drawing from real-life experiences and societal trends.

Boiling Point Arena, known for its hard-hitting but balanced conversations on social issues, said the May edition would go beyond surface-level debate to confront what it described as “the quiet crisis reshaping family life in contemporary society.”

As anticipation builds, the event is expected to generate wide public interest, particularly among young adults and married couples navigating the complexities of modern relationships.

The discourse will ultimately seek to answer a pressing question: Is marriage evolving in line with modern realities, or is it facing a deeper crisis of values and commitment?

In the recent past, several leading political actors and eminent economic and thought leaders have featured as Guests among which are former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Prof Toyin Fálọlá, Prof Wande Abímbọ́lá, Bishop Mathew kukah, Akogun Tola Adeniyi, Pastor Femi Emmanuel and Prof Farooq Kperogi.

Last month, April, was a hotly debated conversation during which Prof Pat Utomi and Presidential Adviser, Daniel Bwala took turns to assess the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu.

A well publicized discourse, Boiling Point Arena, will be broadcast live on WASH 94.9FM, Sweet 107.1FM, Roots 97.1FM, Erimbe 94.7FM, Women Radio 91.7FM, Opera Tune 106.3FM, and Kruzz 92.9FM as well as a cable television, NSTV on GoTV channel 316.

Boiling Point is a news and general interest group comprising of eminent personalities including over 300 professors, media professionals, technocrats, industry leaders, high court justices, traditional rulers, security top shots and several others.

All is now set for what promises to be a gripping and intellectually charged encounter as two prominent voices, Prof Pat Utomi and Mr Daniel Bwala, go head-to-head today on Boiling Point Arena to dissect the real impact of the reform policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The discourse, scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight, will focus on the theme: “Tinubu’s Reforms: Economic Game-Changer, Necessary Evil or Endless Suffering for Nigerians?”

The once-in-a-month current affairs programme, now in its 42nd edition, is to be transmitted via Zoom and broadcast live on seven partner radio stations across Lagos, Ogun and Delta states.

With an incredibly large online following and wide listenership base, Boiling Point Arena is anchored by a media professional and public relations strategist, Dr Ayo Arowojolu.

Foremost traditional ruler, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof Saka Adelola Matemilola, is the Keynote Speaker and chair to herald the debate over a two-hour duration.

With Nigerians grappling with the realities of subsidy removal, currency fluctuations, and rising cost of living, tonight’s conversation is expected to provide clarity, provoke thought, and ignite nationwide engagement.

On one side of the debate is Prof. Utomi, a respected political economist known for his critical stance on governance and economic direction.

He is expected to interrogate the structure, implementation, and human impact of the current reforms.

Facing him is Bwala, a vocal public affairs analyst and Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communication, is poised to argue that the reforms, though painful, are necessary steps toward long-term national stability and prosperity.

Boiling Point Arena, renowned for its robust and no-holds-barred conversations, has built a reputation as a credible hybrid discourse platform where ideas clash and perspectives are sharpened.

Tonight’s edition is widely tipped to be one of its most explosive yet.

Observers believe the Utomi-Bwala face-off could significantly shape public perception, especially among undecided Nigerians seeking to understand whether the current administration’s policies truly represent renewed hope or deepening hardship.

As the clock ticks toward showtime, expectations are high for a debate that will not only inform but also challenge assumptions and stimulate meaningful national dialogue.

Nigerians across the globe are encouraged to tune in and be part of what promises to be a defining conversation on the nation’s economic trajectory.

With just two Sundays to go, anticipation is building ahead of what promises to be a defining edition of the popular monthly interview discourse, Boiling Point Arena, as Prof. Pat Utomi and Mr Daniel Bwala prepare for a high-stakes encounter on the impact and implications of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.

At a time when many Nigerians are contending with rising living costs, inflationary pressure and deepening social strain, the forthcoming conversation is expected to interrogate whether the administration’s reform agenda represents a credible path to long-term recovery or an extended season of pain for already burdened citizens.

Sunday April 12, 2026 is the date for the potentially explosive encounter via Zoom and live broadcast on multiple partner radio stations in Lagos, Ogun and Delta States. Time is 8pm.

Bringing together two influential voices with sharply contrasting perspectives, the Utomi-Bwala face-off is already generating keen interest among followers of governance, policy and public affairs, with expectations of a robust and insightful exchange on one of the nation’s most contentious issues.

Hosted on Zoom and amplified across multiple radio stations and digital platforms, Boiling Point Arena has continued to earn a reputation as a credible marketplace of ideas where critical national conversations are driven with depth, balance and intellectual rigour.

As the countdown begins in earnest, the upcoming encounter is widely seen as one that could help shape public understanding of the difficult choices, hard questions and policy consequences surrounding Tinubu’s reforms.

Hosted by a seasoned media professional and public relations strategist, Dr Ayo Arowojolu, Boiling Point Arena is currently in its 42nd monthly edition since debuting in November 2022.

The topic of discourse is: “Tinubu’s Reforms: Economic Game Changer, Necessary Evil or Endless Suffering for Nigerians.”

Foremost traditional ruler, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Prof. Saka Matemilola is the Keynote Speaker and Chair to herald the debate over a two-hour duration.

Prof. Pat Utomi, a respected political economist and public policy advocate, and Mr Daniel Bwala, a notable lawyer and Presidential Adviser on Policy Communication, are expected to bring sharp perspectives from opposing ends of the debate, even as viewers and listeners can anticipate a rich, insightful and intellectually stimulating conversation.

The discourse will provide a robust platform for critical interrogation of the Tinubu Administration’s policy direction, its intended benefits, and the harsh realities many Nigerians are grappling with daily.

Key among the reforms are the removal of fuel subsidy, exchange rate liberalization, tax reforms and other sweeping economic policy measures.

While supporters of the reforms argue that the policies are bold, inevitable and capable of repositioning Nigeria’s economy for long-term stability, critics insist that the burden on ordinary citizens has become unbearable, with rising inflation, worsening cost of living, and increasing social anxiety.

Against this backdrop, Boiling Point Arena is once again setting the stage for a thought-provoking exchange that will not only dissect the economic and political implications of the reforms, but also help citizens better understand the difficult choices confronting the nation at this defining moment.

As always, Boiling Point Arena, a hybrid discourse platform infusing conventional radio and digital channels, continues to distinguish itself as a credible marketplace of ideas where national issues are examined with depth, courage and clarity.

This edition is widely anticipated to be one of the biggest and most talked-about conversations yet on the platform.

In the recent past, several leading political actors and eminent economic and thought leaders have featured as Guests among which were former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu; Prof Toyin Fálọlá; Prof Wande Abímbọ́lá; Bishop Mathew kukah; Akogun Tola Adeniyi; Pastor Femi Emmanuel and Prof Farooq Kperogi.

A well-publicised discourse, Boiling Point Arena, will be broadcast live on seven radio stations including WASH 94.9FM, Sweet 107.1FM, Roots 97.1FM, Erimbe 94.7FM, Women Radio 91.7FM and Kruzz 92.9FM as well as a cable television, NSTV, on GoTV channel 316.

Boiling Point is a news and general interest group comprising of eminent personalities including over 300 professors, media professionals, technocrats, industry leaders, high court justices, traditional rulers, security top shots and several others.

Will the new amendments in the electoral law particularly as it affects electronic transmission of results help to strengthen the ballot or create loopholes to manipulate the process in the forthcoming 2027 Election? The popular monthly interview discourse, Boiling Point Arena, takes this on next Sunday March 8, 2026.

Three eminent Nigerians – former governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, a governorship hopeful in Ogun State, Otunba Ṣẹgun Showunmi, and a United Kingdom-based research fellow, Prof. Olugbenro Oyekan – will dissect the issue.

Probing questions begging for answers during the potentially intense debate include whether the new amendments will be a catalyst to restore voter confidence or a trigger for political apathy.

The once-in-a-month current affairs programme, now in its 41st edition, is to be transmitted via Zoom and broadcast live on six partnering radio stations across Lagos, Ogun and Delta states.

With an incredibly large online followership and wide listenership base, Boiling Point Arena is hosted by a media professional and public relations strategist, Dr. Ayo Arowojolu.

Foremost traditional ruler, Prof Saka Matemilola, is the keynote speaker and chair to herald the debate over a two-hour duration.

The topic of discourse is: “Electoral Law Amendment: Reform for Credible Democracy or Legal Engineering for Political Advantage?”

The trio of Babaginda Aliyu, Showunmi and Oyekan are to draw from their deep knowledge of Nigerian political history to interrogate all the issues surrounding the amendments in the electoral law in a balanced and intellectually stimulating session.

The discussants are to in particular take a look at the contentious issue of electoral integrity, weighing in on the operations in terms of neutrality of the electoral body itself, the INEC, deployment of technology and need for transparency.

Quite expectedly, the speakers would also address the trust deficit by opposition elements as to whether or not suspicions generated as reflected in the groundswell of protests against what many tagged not far-reaching amendments are justified.

Aliyu is well versed as an old breed politician as he was elected to the Federal House of Representatives in 1983 for Chanchaga Federal Constituency of Niger State.

He subsequently got elected as governor of the state in 2007.

One interesting characterisation of Aliyu’s administration was his adoption of the prefix to his name, Chief Servant of Niger State as he rejected being addressed as His Excellency throughout his tenure.

For his part, Otunba Segun Showunmi is a political thought leader and promoter of The Alternative Movement.

He is as well an aspirant in the race for governorship of Ogun State.

Prof Olugbenro Oyekan is a prominent research fellow at the University of Oxford, England.

A Professor of Practice in Management and Finance, he is also Dean at the International School of Management(ISM), Lagos.

A well publicized discourse, Boiling Point Arena, will be broadcast live on WASH 94.9FM, Sweet 107.1FM, Roots 97.1FM, Erimbe 94.7FM, Women Radio 91.7FM and Kruzz 92.9FM as well as a cable television, NSTV on GoTV channel 316.

Boiling Point is a news and general interest group comprising eminent personalities including over 300 professors, media professionals, technocrats, industry leaders, high court justices, traditional rulers, security top shots and several others.

With the clamour for State Police gaining renewed momentum across the country, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG ’Leye Oyebade, has advocated a hybrid security architecture that blends the principles of community policing with the proposed State Police model.

To him, real, pragmatic solutions to tackle the multi-hydra-headed dimensions of the nation’s insecurity lay in the introduction of community policing backed by deep reforms of the Police, forging inter-agency coordination and heavy investment in IT-driven technologies for personnel.

Oyebade spoke as guest on the high-profile monthly discourse, Boiling Point Arena, anchored by a media professional and public relations strategist, Dr Ayo Arowojolu.

The discourse, titled “Decentralised Security Architecture: Redefining Federal and States’ Roles in State Policing as Nigeria Battles Escalating Insecurity,” was transmitted via Zoom and broadcast live across six radio stations in Lagos, Ogun, and Edo States, with notable input from the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola who chaired the session.

Oyebade said: “The best strategy to combat crime at all levels, at the strategic level, operational level and tactical level, is community policing which incorporates all the relevant stakeholders at the local level including civilian populace, and operatives of various agencies synergizing and sharing intelligence. My recommendation is that all these be fused into those advantages in the State Police model, then it becomes a hybrid security architecture.

“Nigeria police must be reformed, to be fine-tuned, to be repositioned for capacity building, training and retraining of the personnel in order for them to be able to adapt to the use of IT-driven technology to combat the modern crime of today. Crime is prevented at the local level and we can prevent crime from escalating and snowballing into real crises.

“To make policing work in Nigeria, we need to first and foremost go back to the Constitution to seek legislative amendments and then reform the Police to bring them back to occupy their rightful place as the lead agency in the internal security architecture of the country.

“We cannot just leave the Police the way it is presently. The personnel are down and no equipment to work with and their morale is down as well. The cumulative neglect of the Police overtime is what led to inefficiency in crime combatting. The truth is the Police has been impoverished for long.”

The security expert however cautioned submitted that any reform towards state policing would fail without a foundational shift in the character of the average personnel.

“The fear of God, patriotism and professional integrity must underpin any reform. The hybrid model of decentralized accountability which we are advocating requires a more responsive people-centric force that understands the nuances of the terrain it protects, all of which are geared at bridging the trust gap between the Uniform and Citizenry,” he stressed.

Oyebade further said that rather than tasking other security agencies with basic work tasks of the Police, the military should only be called in when there are overwhelming challenges beyond capacity of the Police.

“This is how it is being done all over the world. You don’t bring out your joker out too early. Your joker is the military. They are the last joker but if you use your joker out early, what else are you going to use? In a democracy, the military is not to be seen on the streets as we are seeing them in Nigeria.

“Government should carry out deep reforms, fund them heavily, and boost the salary of policemen to empower them to handle the challenges”

Although the retired DIG acknowledged the widespread fears regarding political weaponization of state governors by state policing which is also prone to foisting disunity, he nonetheless cautioned that the rules and standards must remain national to prevent a collapse into regional despotism.

It would be recalled that the concept of community policing which was a fallout of recommendations by the Senior Executive Course 40 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, has since 2018 been approved via a White Paper by the federal government and is currently being implemented within the Police structure.
