The Police Command in Osun has declared two persons wanted over the alleged ritual killing of a senior female officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and her 10-year-old daughter.

This is contained in a wanted notice issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Friday in Osogbo.

Ojelabi said that anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects would be rewarded.

“The public is hereby notified that Adumati Idowu and Faturoti Kehinde, both Nigerian nationals from Ijurin-Ekiti in Ekiti State, are wanted by the Nigeria Police, Osun State Command.

“The suspects are wanted in connection with the offence of murder.

“Adumati Idowu is about 38 years old, dark in complexion, with white teeth, about 1.7 metres tall, pointed nose, oblong head, black hair, and of Yoruba ethnic origin.

“Faturoti Kehinde, also known as ‘Fagorite’, is about 36 years old, dark in complexion, with white teeth, about 1.7 metres tall, pointed nose, oblong head, black hair, and of Yoruba ethnic origin.

“Both suspects are wanted for the murder of Mrs Funmilayo Lasisi, 38, and her 10-year-old daughter, Sewa Lasisi,” he said.

The PPRO added that anyone with useful information about the whereabouts of the suspects would be handsomely rewarded.

He urged anyone who sights or knows the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or call: 09060052947, 08039537995, or 08123823981.

Ojelabi warned that anyone harbouring the suspects would be treated by the police as an accomplice to the crime.

The police had on December 3, 2025, paraded three suspects arrested in connection with the killings, while two other suspects were said to be on the run.

Police said one of the suspects, an herbalist, on November 17, 2025, led detectives to Esa-Odo Dam in Obokun local government area, where the remains of the FRSC officer and her daughter were dumped.

Police also said some vital body parts, including the head, breasts, hands and private parts, were missing from the victims’ remains.

The victims were reportedly lured from Ogun to Osun, where they were murdered by the suspects.

Relief has come the way of indigent students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, from the institution’s extension arm, Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre, AMREC.

A total of 60 students benefitted from 5kg garri support package aimed at improving their welfare and cushioning the impact of the prevailing economic challenges in the country.

The initiative by AMREC was in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security under the Renewed Hope National Accelerated Garri Programme of the President Bola Tinubu administration.

Speaking during the presentation of the items, Director of AMREC, Prof. Jacob Olaoye, explained that the programme was designed to provide students with essential food items to help them remain focused on their academic activities despite the current economic realities.

Olaoye noted that the initiative reflected the commitment of the university and its partners to promoting student welfare and ensuring that students receive the support needed to excel in their studies.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, commended the supporting organisations for the intervention.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to maintain responsible behaviour capable of attracting more partnerships and opportunities to the university.

Also speaking, the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Festus Adeosun, appreciated the federal government for supporting the initiative and appealed for the inclusion of more food items in future distributions to enhance the programme’s impact.

He emphasised that welfare initiatives played a significant role in creating a supportive and conducive learning environment for students.

A beneficiary, Miss Grace Olumide, a 500-Level student of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, described the support as timely and beneficial.

She conveyed appreciation to the organisers, stating that the garri packs would help students maintain the energy required to concentrate effectively on their studies.

The event underscored FUNAAB’s continued commitment to student welfare and academic success.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, fixed January 22 for commencement of trial of Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, over alleged false claim against President Bola Tinubu.

Justice Mohammed Umar fixed the date after Sowore was arraigned on two-count amended charge filed against him by the Department of State Services, DSS, and pleaded not guilty to the counts.

In the amended charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025 and filed on December 5, Sowore is named as sole defendant.

Although Sowore, X Incorp (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook) Incorp were named in the earlier charge as 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants respectively, in the amended charge, the names of 2nd and 3rd defendants were dropped.

In count one of the amended charge, the DSS alleged that Sowore, on or about August 25, 2025, did knowingly send a message by means of a computer system or network, through his official “X” (formerly Twitter) handle page, @YeleSowore.

In the message, Sowore was alleged to have posted the following tweet: “This criminal@officlalABAT actually went to Brazil to state that there is no more corruption under his regime in Nigeria.

“What audacity to lie shamelessly!”

The message, which he knew to be false, was said to be posted for the purpose of causing a breakdown of law and order in Nigeria, posing a threat to life, or causing such message to be sent.

He is accused to have committed an offence of cyberstalking contrary to Section 24(1) (b) and 24(2) (a), (b), and (c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024 and punishable under the same section.

The prosecution lawyer applied that the names of the 2nd and 3rd defendants be removed and Justice Umar struck out “X” and Facebook from the charge.

Kehinde, therefore, pleaded that the two counts be read to Sowore.

Counsel to Sowore, Marshal Abubakar, did not oppose Kehinde‘s application that the charge be read to his client for him to take his plea.

After the counts were read to Sowore, he pleaded not guilty and Abubakar prayed the court to allow Sowore to continued to enjoy the earlier bail granted to him and the court granted it.

The DSS lawyer then informed the court that the prosecution witness was in court to testify in the case and that they were ready to proceed.

But Abubakar told the court that they were not ready to go on with the case.

The lawyer submitted that in the proof of evidence attached to the charge, names of witnesses were listed but no single name was mentioned in the case.

Besides, Abubakar, who said that no single testimony of the witnesses were attached, argued that that violated Section 36(6) of the 1999 Constitution.

He further submitted that he needed the adequate time and facility to prepare their defence.

“The depositions of the witnesses and list of witnesses must be frontloaded and they have failed to do this.

“The witnesses are unknown to us and unknown to law.

“Every material needed for the defence of the defendant must be provided for his defence but they have failed to do so my lord,” he added, citing two previous Supreme Court cases and Section 379(1) of Administration of Criminal Justice System (ACJA), 2015 to back his argument.

But Kehinde disagreed with Abubakar.

The senior lawyer submitted that the provision of ACJA as quoted by Abubakar had no bearing in the instant.

Besides, he said reliance on that provision of the law was grossly misconceived and an insult to the court.

“The provision of Section 36(6) that he relied on does not provide that we must provide a name to our witnesses before bringing them to court,” he said.

Kehinde said the defence was at liberty, after the witness must have given the evidence, to ask for a stand down or an adjournment to cross examine their witness.

He said that Abubakar’s submission was a ploy to delay the trial, urging the court to discountenance the argument.

“The concern of parties should be to have the matter determined expeditiously,” he added.

“I submit that the argument of my learned brother is not relevant in this case.

“We have front-loaded the witnesses and we have also front-loaded the charge and exhibits which emanated from the defendants.

“We have also exhibited the case summary,” the senior lawyer said.

After taking all the arguments, Justice Umar adjourned until January 22 for definite hearing.

A top Registry staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Mrs. Emilomo Joy Alawode, has been appointed as the third substantive Registrar of McPherson University, McU, Seriki-Sotayo, Ogun State.

Mrs. Alawode, a Deputy Registrar at FUNAAB, was appointed by the Board of Trustees of McPherson University, underscoring the growing national recognition of FUNAAB’s administrative depth and its consistent grooming of Principal Officers for universities across Nigeria.

A seasoned university administrator, Alawode brings to her new role decades of rich professional experience spanning academic administration, human resource management, governance, public relations, and media engagement.

Notably, she was the pioneer Visiting Deputy Registrar at McPherson University in 2012, where she played a pivotal role in laying the institution’s administrative foundation, strengthening staff coordination and student records management systems.

During that period, she also established the university’s first official news bulletin, MCU Echo, setting the benchmark for structured internal and external communication.

At FUNAAB, Alawode served across several strategic units of the university registry, managing over 17,500 students and 3,500 staff records during key academic sessions.

Her introduction of digital administrative tools improved operational efficiency by over 60 per cent, reinforcing FUNAAB’s standing as a forward-looking institution committed to innovation and best practices in university governance.

She also worked closely with the Senate and Governing Council of both FUNAAB and McPherson University, contributing significantly to policy formulation, institutional reforms, and effective governance.

As Head of the Academic Staff Establishment Unit at FUNAAB, she pioneered the deployment of e-meeting folders for the Appointments and Promotions Committee, reducing paper usage, minimising delays, and enhancing administrative efficiency.

She also served, at two different times, as substantive Head of the Directorate of Public Relations at FUNAAB, where she redesigned the University Bulletin, achieving over 40 per cent growth in readership and engagement.

Nigeria’s current economic predicament is traceable to the non-application of statistical reasoning by successive regimes in the country to shape policies having to do with national development.

A financial mathematics expert, Prof Obi-Nnamdi Agwuegbo, made this declaration.

Agwuegbo, a university don said given government’s analogue approach to development issues, it would amount to day-dreaming to expect Nigeria’s full potentials to be realised without application of statistical methods.

He spoke while delivering the 102nd Inaugural Lecture of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, titled “Statistical Reasoning: A Panacea for National Development” on Wednesday.

The inaugural event took place at the Prof Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Hall on campus.

The renowned professor of Stochastic modelling from the Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences, COLPHYS, underscored the critical role of statistical reasoning in driving national development and realising Nigeria’s full potential.

READ ALSO: FG plays video evidence of alleged terrorism against Nnamdi Kanu

Prof Agwuegbo described statistical reasoning as a cornerstone for effective decision-making, enabling the transformation of raw data into actionable insights that can shape policies, drive innovation, and foster progress across sectors.

The professor was of the firm conviction that no field of research could attain scientific credibility without the application of statistical methods.

To him, statistical reasoning remained central to achieving reliability and efficiency, ranging from diagnosing diseases in healthcare to ensuring quality control in manufacturing.

He stated: “Without statistical interpretation, data is merely an unintelligible array of numbers. It is only through statistical reasoning that data becomes meaningful, guiding informed decisions and evidence-based conclusions.”

To enhance the impact of statistical thinking, the inaugural lecturer recommended the integration of statistical reasoning into all postgraduate programmes in the university.

He also canvassed the establishment of robust national data platforms capable of providing accessible, reliable datasets to support research, innovation, and development.

Agwuegbo, in addition, urged the universities and other institutions of learning to embed statistical literacy into their respective academic framework, stressing that such initiative would cultivate critical thinking and empower students to engage with data in meaningful and transformative ways.

FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, commended Prof. Agwuegbo for delivering an insightful and thought-provoking lecture.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, the university’s helmsman appreciated the lecturer’s remarkable academic contributions, including his role as an external examiner at the University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos.

He noted that Prof. Agwuegbo, a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Statistical Association, NSA, International Biometric Society, IBS, American Statistical Association, ASA, and Professional Statisticians Society of Nigeria, PSSN, has published over 40 scholarly articles in reputable local and international journals.

By AYO AROWOJOLU

At its inception 37 years ago in January 1988, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), being one of the specialized universities of agriculture in Nigeria, was saddled with a tripartite mandate – Teaching, Research and Extension Services.

The Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) is the leg upon which the extension mandate rests which in essence is about deepening community engagements.

Overtime, and especially under the incumbent Administration of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, AMREC has been living up to its billing as extensionist, reaching out with proven solutions to farmers, food processors, industries and other stakeholders across the South Western States of Nigeria.

In concrete terms, FUNAAB is currently doing so much in the area of manpower development through teaching and training as well as research, particularly problem-directed and result-oriented researches, leading to several collaborations with other stakeholders.

As an arm of the University, AMREC which is under the leadership of its Director, Prof. Prof. Olalekan Jacob Olaoye, a Professor of Fisheries Extension and Production Management, is among centres and departments under the supervision of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kolawole Adebayo.

From its day to day operations, AMREC deploys strategies involving training, demonstrations, adaptive research and communication to help farmers and other stakeholders in agriculture form opinions and adopt new knowledge and technologies that will enhance agricultural productivity and ultimately improve their livelihoods.

READ ALSO: Rivers: Why I’ll not comment on emergency declaration –Jonathan

In furtherance of its several tasks, the Centre’s approach to extension activities involves the adoption of model extension villages within its catchment areas in the southwest and the use of an inter-disciplinary extension system in agricultural transfer.

AMREC operates a structure comprising five Operating Programmes which are Extension and Adaptive Research (EAR), Gender Issues and Youth Development (GIYD), Media and Farm Broadcast (MFB); Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and ICT (PME-ICT), and Training and Farm Demonstration (TFD).

Last Thursday, March 20, 2025, AMREC literarily brought a large assemblage of tomato farmers to the classroom, courtesy of a training programme organized in collaboration with the Institutional-Based Research Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) on participatory assessment of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) on growth and yield of Tomato.

The training, themed “Result Dissemination and Post-Training on Good Agricultural Practices for Tomato Farmers,” was aimed at enhancing sustainable farming techniques, boosting productivity, and improving crop quality while minimising environmental impact.

Three facilitators took the farmers on some practical hands-on skills in farm practices geared at boosting their agricultural outputs.

Dr. Olatunbosun Soetan highlighted findings from a study on GAPs and called for increased awareness and training of tomato farmers for sustainable production and the need to scale up the project for commercial farming in Nigeria.

Another facilitator, Dr. James Fadeyi, focused on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to mitigate crop losses, noting that farmers must have basic knowledge on key pests, diseases and weeds.

For his part, Dr. Olanrewaju Oni who discussed the impact of biostimulants and fertilizer types on okra growth and yield, offered insights applicable to tomato farming.

FUNAAB’S Director in the Directorate of Research, Innovations, and Partnerships (DRIP), Prof. Mutiu Busari, who was present at the event, underscored the role of technology in modern agriculture, noting that mobile applications could assist farmers in assessing soil fertility and determining suitable fertilizer types.
