Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have apprehended a long-wanted drug kingpin, Lekan Jimoh, popularly known as “Kanmo-kanmo”, ending a 12-year manhunt following his involvement in the brutal killing of three NDLEA officers.

Kanmo-Kanmo, who is notorious for drug trafficking, evading arrest and mobilising armed thugs against security agents was on Friday 16th January 2026 tracked to his hideout in Owode town, Ogun State, by tactical teams of the agency following credible intelligence.

During the clinical operation, the suspect was found in possession of 69 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the agency’s commitment to ensuring that no fugitive, regardless of how long they evade justice, remains beyond the reach of the law.

Lekan Jimoh’s criminal history is marked by extreme violence and lawlessness.

As a result, he had on 15th June 2014 orchestrated a barbaric mob action against a team of NDLEA officers who had attempted to arrest him at his enclave.

The attack resulted in the cold-blooded murder of three NDLEA officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure and two others, who were killed by armed thugs mobilized by Jimoh.

While the suspect managed to escape the scene that day, the agency remained resolute in its pursuit of justice for the fallen heroes.

In another encounter with Jimoh on 12th August 2023, when NDLEA operatives stormed his residence in Ado-Odo town, Ogun State, he managed to escape while operatives succeeded in recovering 139 sacks of skunk with a total weight of 1,922 kilograms.

Following assets forfeiture proceedings instituted in court by the agency, the house in Ado-Odo, which served as a warehouse for his illicit drug trade, has since been finally forfeited to the federal government.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) described the arrest of Kanmo-kanmo as a triumph of justice and a testament to the agency’s long memory, adding that the arrest sends a clear and unambiguous message to all drug barons and fugitives: “You may run, and you may hide for a season, but the long arm of the law will eventually find you.”

“The arrest of Lekan Jimoh is particularly significant because it closes a painful chapter that began on June 15, 2014. For twelve years, this individual lived with the blood of our gallant officers—Rabiu Usman Kazaure and two others—on his hands. He mistakenly thought that time had erased his crimes. Today, we have proven that the NDLEA does not forget its own. We do not forget the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the service of our fatherland. This arrest is for the families of those three officers who have waited 12 years for justice,” Marwa said in a tribute to the officers lost over a decade ago.

Presidency has dismissed as fake and untrue the claim that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, could not account for about N89.1 trillion the CBN collected as Stamp Duty charges.

A member of the House of Representatives from Jigawa, Gudaji Kazaure, in a viral video, allegedly accused the CBN governor of attempts to cover-up facts surrounding the collection of the controversial amount.

He also alleged that he was deliberately being denied access to present a preliminary report of a committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the alleged stamp duty funds being withheld by the CBN.

Also in the viral video, Kazaure urged the president to either allow him to present his report to him or immediately order a thorough investigation of the alleged stamp duty funds.

However, Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, described the Kazaure’s Committee as illegal, saying the committee was dissolved on the directive of Buhari.

The statement reads in part: “In the first instance, the committee on the alleged loss of stamp duty funds he is talking about is an illegal committee, it was dissolved on the directive of the president.

“Anyone familiar with our constitution will find it curious that a member of the Parliament is the Secretary of an Executive Committee.

“It suffices to say that the entire net worth of the nation’s financial sector, the assets of the banking sector put together are not worth N50 trillion, not to talk of the kind of money he is talking about.

“CBN assures that there is absolutely no problem, whatsoever, with money from Stamp Duties.

“There is a committee duly set up by the president in June 2020 chaired by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and the Secretary is the Chairman of the Federal Internal Revenue Service, FIRS, that is currently reconciling the stamp duty accounts.”

Shehu said that the job had not finished, adding, “as it is, there is nothing to give credence to wild accusations made against the administration.”

The presidential aide further revealed that earlier investigations carried out by government departments and anti-corruption agencies on the stamp duty accounts indicated that nothing sensational had been discovered by them.

He said: “Following speculation and the many allegations, earlier investigations were commissioned by government departments and agencies.

“These included the Ministry of Finance, the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Service, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation and nothing sensational had been discovered by them. Issues of reconciliation are being handled.

“As for Hon. Gudaji seeing the president, I like to assure that there is nobody that can stop him from seeing the number one citizen. Gudaji is a friend of the president.

“He sees him as many times as he wants and he is welcome to come and see him again and again.”

Do not bring the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to disrepute, the Director General of the scheme, Maj-Gen. Suleiman Zakare Kazaure, has charged corps members that will participate in the 2019 general elections as ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Kazaure made the charge when he addressed corps members at Akure, Ondo State capital.

Represented by an Assistant Director from the Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs. Foluke Fatunde, he appealed to them to see their involvement as a great honour which they must guard jealously.

“My dear children in the national service, the focus on the 2019 general election has shifted to you to surpass your predecessors who did their very best to give credibility to previous elections with their participation.

“You have every cause to give out your best and ensure that your role is seen and translated to bring the much touted credibility to the electoral process.”

The NYSC boss declared that anyone who tried to bring the name of the scheme to disrepute would be dealt with in accordance with the provision of the NYSC bye law.

“It is a known fact that you are protected under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but let me hasten to add that anyone who tries to manipulate the electoral process illegally for personal gain shall not go unpunished.

“The conduct expected of a corps member on ad-hoc duties for the Independent National Electoral Commission is clear and unambiguous and anything contrary to this will be met with stiff opposition by NYSC management.

“Abstain from accepting unsolicited gifts, food items or inducement in whatever form from politicians and perform your ad-hoc assignments with high sense of responsibility and integrity.”

The NYSC helmsman said that the world had become a global community hence the utmost need by corps members to play the game according to the rules and abhor any act that would bring the scheme to disrepute or make it a laughing stock.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission knows that NYSC stands for integrity and sincerity of purpose and that is why they rely much on you as the most reliable stakeholders to assist them organise fair, credible and generally acceptable elections.”

In her brief remarks, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, informed the representative of the Director General that the management team at the state had toured many local governments to sensitise the corps members on what is expected of them during the 2019 general elections.

Mrs. Akpabio reiterated that the seriousness displayed during training predisposes that corps members are ready to complement INEC on this important national assignment.

The State Coordinator said she had put machinery in place to adequately monitor the activities of corps members that would serve as ad-hoc staff of INEC.

“I have directed all my field officers that would be engaged by INEC to release my official line to all security agencies and election observers in their respective local governments. This is to checkmate the youthful exuberance and at the same time have first hand information about the activities of corps members on electoral duties.”
