Others from Anambra are Rep. Uchenna Okonkwo, Rep. George Ozodinobi, Rep. Obiageli Orogbu, Rep. Peter Aniekwe, Rep. Emeka Idu, Rep. Peter Uzokwe and Rep. Afam Ogene.

The Police Service Commission, PSC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has announced dates for written examinations for applicants seeking employment into Constable cadre of the Force.

The spokesman of PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said written examinations for both General Duty and Specialist applicants would be held between April 28 and April 30.

He said the examination would take place at designated centres across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

According to him, only candidates who successfully passed the physical and credentials screening are eligible.

“Qualified applicants are to log on to www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng from Friday, April 24 to print their Examination Invitation Card, which indicates the specific date, time and venue of their test,” he said.

Kalu said the items required for the examination were a pen, National Identification Number, NIN, Slip from NIMC, with a clear photograph and Printed Examination Invitation Card.

He said applicants were expected to dress in white shorts, white T‑shirt and white canvas.

Kalu pledged the commitment of PSC to ensure that the recruitment process was entirely free.

He warned that any form of job racketeering, scams, or financial inducement would be met with the full force of the law.

I read, on the cable.ng, the defence mounted on behalf of Professor Iyabo Obasanjo against criticism of her indifference to the grotesque conditions in which some residents of the Lagos–Ogun boundary communities live. I admire the writer’s simplicity of language and sedate tone. But you can afford to be tranquil when you have not lived in any of those communities. That response, which I believe was to my Facebook post on why I want, so very badly, Professor Obasanjo’s announced governorship bid to fail, is not off the boilerplate. It did not begin with the formulaic line about responding “for the need to put the records straight and ensuring that the public is not misled by disgruntled elements”. For sparing me that tedium, I am immensely grateful.

The defence, however, is gossamer-thin. It attempts to be clever by trying to turn absence into principle. It suggests that because the roads of Lambe, Akute, Alagbole and the surrounding axis are technically state roads, a federal legislator could do little more than sigh in sympathy and return to Abuja to loudly debate policy architecture.

The tidiness of its argument is not in doubt, but it is convincing only to the writer, Obasanjo herself and the mass choir expected to be put together by her aspiration.

Anyone with even a casual interest in Nigerian legislative practice over the last two decades knows that members of the National Assembly rarely hide behind constitutional diagrams when their constituents are living like the children of a lesser god.

Senators and members of the House of Representatives routinely intervene when there are infrastructural gaps in their constituencies. They lobby ministries, insert projects into appropriation bills, mobilise federal agencies and deploy the constituency project framework. And when all else fails, they simply push until something moves.

None of them pretends that these interventions magically convert federal legislators into commissioners for works. They simply understand that representation carries practical obligations, not just theoretical ones. That seemed beyond Professor Obasanjo when she was a senator.

And up to now, I suspect that she is not aware that federal legislators have stepped in when other tiers of government failed. Senator Uzor Kalu (Abia North), for example, has facilitated the rehabilitation of several rural roads across communities such as Arochukwu, Ohafia and Bende through federal intervention projects captured in the national budget. On his watch, road rehabilitation and erosion control works were executed in places like Nkporo and Isuikwuato through federal agencies and constituency allocations. No one argued that those roads suddenly became federal trunk routes. The projects were pushed through available federal channels because communities needed relief.

Ali Ndume (Borno South) has done the same for years. Through appropriations and federal intervention programmes, he has facilitated road construction and rehabilitation projects linking communities such as Biu, Askira and Hawul. He has also attracted classroom blocks, boreholes and healthcare facilities to several communities in southern Borno through federal agencies and the constituency project framework. The roads did not magically become federal roads. They were simply built because representation required intervention.

Godswill Akpabio, while representing Akwa Ibom North West in the Senate before becoming Senate President, facilitated the construction and rehabilitation of community roads, classroom blocks and electrification projects across Essien Udim, Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara through federal constituency interventions. Again, nobody pretended that these projects fell neatly within federal jurisdiction. The point was to deliver relief where communities needed it.

Members of the House of Representatives do this even more routinely. Long before becoming Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila facilitated several projects in Surulere through constituency interventions. Roads were rehabilitated in parts of the constituency. Classroom blocks were built in public schools. Health centres received upgrades and equipment through federal intervention programmes he helped attract.

In Nigerian politics, constituents rarely reward explanations when they have spent years navigating potholes deep enough to qualify as inland waterways. There is nothing that should recommend Professor Obasanjo to any resident of communities on the Lagos-Ogun boundary except those who want the Medusa stare we got for the four years she spent in the Senate.

Even the cartoonish Dino Melaye, whose theatrical style often overshadows everything, also facilitated projects while representing Kogi West in the Senate. Boreholes, classroom blocks and electrification schemes appeared in communities across Kabba, Ijumu and Yagba through constituency projects and federal intervention programmes. In several places, local access roads were rehabilitated under projects he attracted through the budget process.

None of these politicians wrote essays explaining that “a legislator does not supervise asphalt”. They understood that the constitutional separation of powers is not an excuse for passivity and indifference.

The modern Nigerian legislative system has evolved precisely because constituents demand visible impact. Constituency projects were not invented by voters in Lambe, Adiyan, Akute or Ijoko. They emerged from the recognition that lawmakers wield influence within the federal budgeting process and can deploy that influence to alleviate local infrastructure deficits.

The defence of Professor Obasanjo romanticises an earlier era of “clearer separation of powers”, as though legislators once lived in a purist republic of tidy constitutional boundaries. That is largely fiction. Nigerian legislators have been attracting projects to their constituencies since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1999. Not even the shittiest of them gave the excuses that the writer of the defence gave.

Even when projects fall within state jurisdiction, lawmakers routinely work with federal intervention agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission, Universal Basic Education Commission, the Ecological Fund and the Rural Electrification Agency to deliver infrastructure that improves local life.

The claim that sustainable development is not achieved by inserting isolated line items into budgets is technically correct. It is also irrelevant to the immediate problem residents face. When roads look like facilities for extreme sports, citizens are not asking for a lecture on institutional architecture. They are asking whether their representative used every available lever to improve their situation.

That is the heart of what I wrote about. It is not a childish demand for “ribbon- cutting” photographs. It is a question about advocacy and presence. Communities remember who fought for them. They also remember who explained why fighting was not technically within the job description.

The irony is that the defence of Professor Obasanjo indirectly confirms the complaint. It acknowledges that the corridor bordering Lagos has suffered decades of neglect. That is precisely the grievance residents have voiced for years. And if a political career that included service as state commissioner and later as senator did not significantly alter the trajectory of those communities, voters are entitled to ask why.

Explaining jurisdiction is not the same thing as demonstrating intervention.

She should shove her Iyaniwura Foundation into one of the potholes in those communities. I lived in Lambe for nine years, so I know a thing or two about living on the outskirts of hell.

The Police Service Commission, PSC, and the Nigeria Police Force have fixed March 9, to commence physical and credential screening in the ongoing recruitment of Constables into the Nigeria Police Force.

Spokesman for PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

Kalu said that the physical and credential screening would hold between March 9 and April 18 across the country.

“Applicants who successfully completed the online recruitment registration exercise are requested to login to the recruitment portal on npfapplication.psc.gov.ng,

“This is to check their status and print the following documents which they must present at the screening venue on the date and time indicated in their invitation slip.

“The documents are guarantors form, application submission slip, invitation slip, credentials screening form and physical screening form,” he said.

He added that items to be presented during the screening include invitation slip with assigned TABLE and credential screening form.

“Other items to be presented are original National Identity Number (NIN) printout or card issued by NIMC, O’ Level (GCE/SSCE) Certificate and Birth Certificate or Declaration of age.

“LGA/State of Origin Certificate, Trade Test/Certificate for specialists only, duly completed and signed Guarantors form with photocopies and passports of referees attached would also be presented,” he said.

According to him, original and duplicate copies of credentials are to be neatly packaged in two separate white flat files, with recent passport photographs attached.

Kalu said applicants must appear at the various screening venues wearing white canvas shoes, white T-shirts, white shorts, and white stockings.

He said the screening exercise would take place at designated locations within each state/FCT as indicated on the invitation printout.

He also said that the recruitment exercise was absolutely free of charge without any pecuniary obligation.

He quoted the Chairman of PSC, Mr Hashimu Argungu, as pledging that the process would be conducted in the best tradition of transparency and accountability.

Argungu urged applicants to be wary of online impostors, scammers and other criminal elements who might want to take advantage of the recruitment process to defraud innocent applicants.

He warned that anyone found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted.

Mr Torty Kalu, the spokesman of PSC, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

He said the decision was reached following the DIG’s exceptional performance in the commission’s written examination and oral interview.

The Police Service Commission, PSC, has appointed one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG, and approved the promotion of two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, AIGs, and over 26,119 Inspectors.

The Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the promotion of Mr Funsho Adegboye from AIG to DIG was ratified at the third plenary meeting of the commission presided over by its chairman, Mr Hashimu Argungu.

Kalu said the commission also approved the promotion of Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi from the rank of Commissioners of Police to AIGs.

The PSC spokesman said the promotion of the senior officers followed a rigorous and merit-based process, including successful written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the commission.

“In a landmark decision reflecting its commitment to career progression, the commission also approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).

“This promotion is based on their outstanding performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination,” he said.

Kalu said the newly promoted DIG had served as the AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force, PMF, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

According to him, with a distinguished career spanning decades, Adegboye has served in critical departments including Operations, Training, and Administration.

He said the new DIG had held command positions and had acquired international experience from the United Nations Missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.

He said Idi had served as the Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning, Force Headquarters, Abuja before his promotion.

Kalu said the PSC boss had congratulated the newly promoted officers, and pledged the commitment of PSC to transparency, meritocracy, and best practices in all appointment and promotion processes.

“The commission is dedicated to recognising hard work, dedication, and competence. These promotions are a testament to that commitment.

“I urge all the promoted officers to see their new ranks as a call to greater service, higher responsibility, and redoubled dedication to the safety and security of our nation,” Kalu quoted Argungu as saying.

The Police Service Commission, PSC, and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, have extended the deadline for application for recruitment of 50,000 Constable into the Nigeria Police Force by two weeks.

The Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Kalu said the application portal, opened on December 15 and slated to be closed on January 26 had been extended to February 8.

He said the decision followed the receipt of over 400,000 applications and a review, showing significant disparities in state participation.

“While some states like Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna have high application numbers, states such as Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra have notably lower submissions.

“The extension is to ensure equitable representation nationwide.

“All eligible Nigerians, particularly from above-mentioned states with fewer applications, are strongly encouraged to apply via the official portal: www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng,” he said.

He enjoined state governments, local government councils, community leaders, and other stakeholders to mobilise and sensitise eligible citizens within their jurisdictions to take advantage of the extension to apply.

The PSC spokesman pledged the commitment of the commission and the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process.

He was sucking the breasts of his female congregants for free. How he got that lucky? He said one god called him to be a deliverance pastor who would suck cancer out of the breasts of afflicted women. In his mouth was cure, deliverance and healing. His name was Ralph Obi and he was popularly known as Pastor Sharp Sharp. He feasted on women already distressed and desperate. He said one god called him and he answered. So he became a self-acclaimed pastor. He had a ‘church’. He had a congregation. People actually believed him, his calling and his story. Even he must have lost count of the number of breasts he fondled and sucked in the name of spiritual healing. Then his judgement day came, in broad daylight and he did not even have to die first. Detectives from Area M Command, Idimu, swooped on him and hauled him off to jail.

The breast-sucking ‘pastor’ was caught in the act while performing his strange brand of deliverance on the wife of a member of his church on Abaranje Road by Cele bus stop, Ikotun, Lagos State. And when the detectives went to search his house, of course, what they found were not rosaries, holy water or different versions of the holy Bible. Obi had in abundance tools of his trade of deceit. That happened here in Lagos, not in some remote hamlet or farm settlement where people do not know their Genesis from their Revelation. It all went down here in the Centre of Excellence, from breastfeeding to arrest. That arrest was made nine years ago.

Two other young men tried their hands on forcing their gods on a church altar and ended very badly.

Kelechukwu and Prosper started life with their eyes set on a bright future. After their secondary school education, they started to look for ways to make their dreams come true. They struggled, hustled, tried a few menial jobs, learnt a trade or attempted to learn a trade but the road to fame and wealth seemed too long and arduous. They decided to make their own luck if their ‘chi’ refused to bless them. Gbam, they decided to call God and the gods, and from the ways things turned out for them, I think some gods heard them and called them back. They ordained themselves preachers of the gospel.

Kelechukwu and Prosper wore designer suits and white collars. God watched them prancing from one side of the altar to the other, taking His name in vain. Their flocks called them Daddy, their wives were Mothers-in-Israel. Their congregation believed their ‘calling’ and respected their ‘anointing’.

Soon, Kelechukwu’s calling started tearing at the seams. His bank balances were not growing in direct proportion to the prancing, singing and the speaking in tongues. The all-work-no-money services and vigils were definitely not working for him. He knew he had to review his plans. They decided to do something to help God. They believed there must be another power that could help God.

So, this year, if one pastor tells you to unhook your bra and put your nipples in his mouth so he can suck out the spiritual husband preventing you from getting married and you do so, you are his maga, his lawful captive

Prosper saw his friend’s struggles and offered to help. He took him to a native doctor in Ondo State. The jazz worked and Kelechukwu’s church started growing. Then envy crept in. Prosper felt he wasn’t properly rewarded for his efforts. Really pissed with his ungrateful friend, he again knew where to find assassins who assisted him in doing the needful.

The police eventually arrested him for killing his childhood friend along with the woman leader of the church and the pastor’s assistant. Their bodies had even started decomposing before they were found. That is what one ‘man of god’ did to another ‘man of god’.

In case you were thinking this is from an African Magic Epic movie, perish the thought. It was from Prosper’s testimony when the police ended his reign of evil.

‘Pastor’ Prosper’s words: “We both attended the same secondary school and started our gospel ministries together. We were both preachers. Iwuanyanwu was my childhood friend and we were also co-pastors. When he was having challenges in growing his church I took him to a native doctor in Ondo State to get charms to attract members to his church. The charms also helped him to perform miracles. I also gave him N100, 000 to support him during the trip.

“I hired three boys from Aba to attack the pastor. We trailed him to his house when he was going home and laid an ambush for him. We waited until midnight, when we knew he would return home,” Prosper said.

Pastor Kelechi was murdered along with his assistant, Pastor Ikeagwu Kalu, aka Ambassador, and the women leader, Ruth Andrew Eze. With all the jazz and juju from Ondo State and the annual top-up, The Wind of Glory International Church, where Iwuanyanwu presided before his gruesome murder is a church of not more than 200 members. And I’m still wondering what exactly this jazz achieved.

These two stories are to remind us of where we are coming from and that was before the Yahoo banditry business became a sector of the economy, one that I hope the new NRS and JGB will apply the full force of the tax reforms to. The juju men who call themselves pastors will wreak havoc in 2026. That, my brethren, is my first prophecy of the year. These smooth-talking predators will carry shining big Bibles, memorise a few verses and before you can say ‘Jesus’ rent a ‘small small’ shops and give it fancy names like Last Bus Stop International Gospel Mission or All Solution Miracle Arcade (AKA Miracle Now Now).

The predator from get-go knew it was a business and so will come with everything into the ‘Ministry’- black juju-in-a-calabash buried deep under the altar, another charm under his designer jacket that makes you warm up to him. The white handkerchief he constantly whips out of his pocket to wipe his face is designed by Baba to keep his congregation hypnotised. Around his waist is another one that works with a ring so everybody he touches falls under the ‘anointing.’

Back in his village, he would have been a dreaded native doctor. The problem is if he starts a shrine and erects a signage saying 21st Century Native Doctor’s Shrine (we kill, we make rich, we help you destroy your enemies), who will go there? We will all turn down our noses at him and call him evil. He will not be able to wear designer wristwatches and openly fraternise with politicians and big babes. We will expect him to mark his face with white chalk and tie red wrapper around his waist. He would not get customers.

So, this year, if one pastor tells you to unhook your bra and put your nipples in his mouth so he can suck out the spiritual husband preventing you from getting married and you do so, you are his maga, his lawful captive. It is not his fault that you believe him. A man who sees a cancer-stricken woman as a sex object is not just a sick freak but a demon from Satan’s kitchen cabinet. And they are all over the place, driving flashy cars and living colourfully. They are bringing shame to the name of God and Christianity. Their shrines continue to attract worshippers who pretend to know the Bible when all they do is just listen to their priests and priestesses.

President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday in Abuja, donated N200 million to the Nigerian Legion, assuring that the government will give more attention to the well-being of the military, injured officers, and the families of fallen heroes.

The President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who attended the ceremony, donated N100 million on behalf of the National Assembly.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, donated N20 million.

President Tinubu spoke at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal launch at the Presidential Villa.

The President, Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the President of the Senate, the Deputy Speaker, and the service chiefs were decorated with the remembrance poppy by the Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion, Morenike Grace Henry.

President Tinubu directed government institutions, businesses, and public-spirited individuals to donate generously to the legion, which serves as an association that caters to retirees and widows of fallen military heroes.

President Tinubu praised the military for the past sacrifices they made for the country’s unity and peace, and for sustaining patriotism by actively participating in securing communities.

“As a grateful nation, we must honour the fallen, support the wounded, and care for all who answered the call to serve. Armed Forces Remembrance Day, marked every 15th of January, is a reminder of the call to peace and the importance of unity.

“As we honour our heroes, I call on every Nigerian to reject divisive rhetoric and embrace respect, tolerance, and understanding. Our diversity is a national asset that must be projected and cherished.

“Our Armed Forces have demonstrated exceptional courage across various theatres of operations. Their efforts have restored normalcy to many communities and strengthened national stability. Under my administration, we have entrenched collaboration among security agencies and recorded significant gains.”

“Tens and thousands of insurgents have surrendered, key terrorist leaders have been neutralised, and many captives have been freed,” the President stated.

The President noted that maritime security has significantly improved.

“In our maritime domain, oil theft, piracy, and illegal fishing have been curtailed. We have supported new platforms and advanced capabilities acquired for the Navy, Army, and Air Force.

“As President and Commander-in-Chief, I remain committed to equipping and motivating our military because security is the central pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I urge businesses and institutions nationwide to honour our service personnel by attending and extending appreciation and prioritising services as is done in many nations across the world.

“We will continue to improve the welfare of our troops and veterans. My administration has enhanced allowances, upgraded barracks, strengthened healthcare, expanded the Defence Health Maintenance Services Limited, and modernised pensions verifications through BVN and NIN integration.”

The Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, called on Nigerians to see the emblem as a means of support to the fallen heroes and their families.

He thanked the President for his continued support for the military, particularly for providing improved hardware, training, and better care for the injured and the families of fallen heroes.

“When we wear this emblem, we say to our veterans, Nigeria remembers you. When we support the appeal fund, we affirm that Nigeria cares. When we stand together today, we declare that Nigeria will never abandon those who serve in her name,” Oluyede said.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr Richard Pheelangwa, said Remembrance Day is designed to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of men and women who gave their lives in defence of the nation.

“Today, we also pay tribute to veterans and salute our serving troops who continue to confront terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges,’’ he said.

Pheelangway also commended President Tinubu for consistently supporting the well-being of the military, the injured, and the families of fallen heroes.

“In many locations once marked by conflict, children have resumed school, markets have been reopened, and families are rebuilding with dignity. These restored moments are victories that often go unsung but remain deeply felt across our nation.

“Behind every secured territory, stand men and women whose courage defines our national character. Some continue to serve with visible and invisible scars, others paid the supreme price, and they now live in our collective memory. Today, we honour their loyalty, bravery, and devotion,’’ he added.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an annual event observed on the 15th of January to honour fallen soldiers and recognise living veterans.
