The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has delisted 23 Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres for technical deficiencies ahead of the coming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

The action followed the conduct of the 2026 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

The board also issued warnings to centres with minor technical issues, while one centre will no longer be used in any of the board’s examinations.

The announcement was made on Friday in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

He said the Mock UTME introduced to enable candidates familiarise themselves with the Computer-Based Test, CBT, environment, also served as a critical platform for the Board to assess its level of preparedness.

He stated that it provided an opportunity to identify centres that fell short of the required operational and technical standards.

Benjamin declared that in the aftermath of the 2026 Mock UTME, the board’s internal review mechanisms identified a number of centres that failed to meet the standards.

Consequently, he announced that the board had taken decisive steps, in line with its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examination processes, to ensure that only centres that were fully prepared and compliant participated in the main UTME exercise.

All candidates who have registered for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, can now proceed to print their Examination Notification Slips.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the spokesman of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in a statement he issued.

The examination is scheduled to commence from Thursday, 16th April 2026.

The board advised candidates to print their examination slips in order to confirm their examination date, venue, and time, as the exercise would be conducted over several days.

To print the examination slip, candidates should visit the Board’s website at https://www.jamb.gov.ng and click on “2026 UTME Slip Printing.”

JAMB stated that candidates were encouraged to print their slips early and familiarise themselves with their examination centres ahead of the examination date to avoid any inconvenience.

“Each candidate has been assigned a specific schedule on the notification slip which enables the candidate to arrive at the centre well ahead of examination time to allow for proper screening and accreditation before the commencement of the examination.

“This year’s examination features enhanced security measures designed to curb all forms of malpractice. Candidates and centres owners are therefore warned to desist from any form of misconduct, as strict sanctions will be applied,” the board added.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has re-arrested an alleged examination fraud suspect, Emmanuel Akataka, reiterating that no individual or group can influence Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, results.

The Registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, gave the warning on Thursday while briefing newsmen on the re-arrest of the suspect in Bwari, Abuja.

Oloyede, represented by Mrs Zainab Hamza, Director, Special Duties, warned candidates and the public against falling victim as a result of promises of score enhancement or examination support, describing such claims as fraudulent.

He said individuals who engaged in such schemes risked financial loss and possible legal consequences.

“The board reiterates, without qualification, that no individual or group can influence UTME results, facilitate special assistance, or manipulate candidate registration under any circumstance.

“The public is reminded that any claim of score enhancement or examination assistance is fraudulent, and engagement with such schemes constitutes a violation of the law.

“Candidates who patronise these services expose themselves to financial loss and legal consequences,’’ he said.

Oloyede described the case involving Akataka, earlier arrested in connection with registration fraud, as disturbing.

According to him, the suspect was previously apprehended for his involvement in criminal conspiracy, impersonation, identity theft, online fraud and other related offences targeting UTME candidates.

“In the course of his operations, he created a fictitious identity known as ‘Official Frederick’, through which he established a WhatsApp platform used to advertise false services such as score inflation.

“Through this scheme, he deceived no fewer than 94 candidates into paying for illegal and non-existent score enhancement services,’’ he said.

The registrar said the affected candidates were given fair hearing by the board and allowed to appear before a special committee to establish their innocence.

He added that, following approval from the Federal Ministry of Education, the registrations of the affected candidates were cancelled, while the suspect was granted bail in line with due legal process.

“Following his release on bail, Akataka re-established contact with the same candidates he had previously defrauded.

“This time, he adopted another alias, ‘Sir Frederick’, and demanded payment of N70,000 from each candidate, falsely claiming he could prevent the cancellation of their registrations because he was in contact with the board,’’ he said.

Oloyede said investigations revealed that the suspect initially used his father’s bank account, bearing the name Vincent Okpowho Akataka, to receive payments.

“Upon suspecting exposure, he opened another account with SmartCash using the name Zainab Rafiu, falsely presented as a director of JAMB, to lend credibility to his fraudulent scheme.

“It is deeply concerning that the same candidates involved in the initial infraction again fell victim to another fraudulent scheme.

“This pattern raises serious concerns about the growing willingness among some candidates to seek unlawful advantage rather than exercise integrity,’’ he said.

He said the conduct was criminal and demonstrated the deceptive and exploitative nature of examination fraud syndicates.

“The case underscores the dangers of seeking unlawful advantage. What begins as an attempt to circumvent due process often ends in exploitation and criminal liability,’’ he added.

Oloyede said JAMB, in collaboration with security agencies, would continue to pursue and prosecute individuals involved in examination fraud.

He advised candidates and parents to rely solely on legitimate processes and reject any form of inducement or illegal assistance.

“The integrity of the nation’s examination system remains non-negotiable, and the board will not relent in safeguarding it,’’ he said.

Speaking with newsmen, Akataka, 26, an indigene of Delta, said he ventured into the illegal activity due to poverty and the need to cater for his mother’s medical bills.

He claimed that after his initial pardon, some of his previous victims continued to contact him seeking assistance, in spite of knowing the services were fake.

The suspect has been handed over to security agencies for prosecution.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Tuesday completed the final phase of its automation process with the digitisation of question authoring for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this at the University of Ibadan during a training programme for test developers.

Oloyede said the board began automation of its examination processes about 10 years ago, noting that the current phase marked the tenth and final stage.

“We are here at the University of Ibadan to do the last round of our automation process.

“This phase is about automating the authoring of questions. Our authors can now set questions from their various locations without having to travel across the country,” he said.

According to him, the initiative will make the process easier, cheaper and less tedious, while improving efficiency and maintaining security.

Oloyede added that adequate checks and balances had been put in place to ensure the integrity of the system.

On registration concerns, the registrar said that the board had expanded its Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres from about 800 in 2025 to over 1,000 in 2026 to ensure seamless registration and examination.

“As of this morning, we have registered about two million candidates, surpassing the figure at this time last year.

“Pin vending ends tomorrow, February 26 and there will be no extension. Those who have obtained their pins are expected to complete their registration before the deadline,” Oloyede said.

The registrar warned candidates and parents against engaging in examination malpractice or seeking shortcuts, stressing that the board would deal firmly with offenders.

“There is no shortcut to education. We are monitoring the system closely and those attempting to subvert it will be apprehended,” he said.

Also, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladeji, said the automation would enhance quality assurance in universities.

She noted that universities relied on JAMB’s screening process and that improved credibility would reduce the burden of conducting post-UTME examinations.

Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Prof. Olayinka Kareem, described the initiative as a brilliant step that would strengthen confidence in the quality of candidates admitted into universities.

Kareem said that the digitisation process would ensure proper documentation of test items and enable effective evaluation of candidates’ performance.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the African School of Economics, Prof. Mahfuz Adedimeji, said that the training was aimed at equipping test developers with the skills needed to deploy the new digital platform.

Adedimeji said the innovation would improve efficiency and enhance the quality of questions set for the UTME.

The training brought together advisers, directors and test developers from universities, polytechnics and secondary schools across the country.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has warned all prospective candidates and the general public that the pin vending for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, will close on Saturday, 26th February, 2026.

The warning was issued on Wednesday by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor in a press statement.

The board said the sale of e-PINs which enables a candidate to proceed to the Centre for registration will end at 12:00 midnight on Thursday, 26th February, 2026, while actual registration at accredited centres for those who already procured the ePIN would cease on Saturday, 28th February, 2026.

It said as of Tuesday, 17th February, 2026, it had successfully registered over 1.5 million candidates.

It said it had a daily registration capacity of 100,000 candidates, yet registration centres across the country were at that moment, operating at barely 30% of that capacity.

That, it said, indicated that a significant number of prospective candidates were yet to take advantage of the opportunity to register.

Said JAMB: “The Board wishes to clearly state that there will be no extension of the registration deadline. JAMB operates within a nationally coordinated examination calendar agreed upon by all examination bodies in Nigeria. The Board’s registration window is strategically scheduled to allow other examination bodies to conduct their own exercises immediately afterward. Consequently, there is no available window for any extension, even if the Board were inclined to consider one.

“Candidates are therefore strongly advised to obtain their e-PINs before the vending deadline and proceed immediately to accredited centres to complete their registration. Waiting until the last few days may result in avoidable challenges, and the Board will not entertain any appeals for extension after the deadline.

“The Board is taking this proactive step to ensure that no candidate who genuinely desires to sit for the 2026 UTME is shut out due to delay or complacency.

“All prospective candidates are urged to act now.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has suspended the selection of examination towns for candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, in Ekiti.

The board disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.

Benjamin said that the suspension was to enable the board restructure examination towns to ensure closer proximity to candidates and reduce transportation challenges on examination days.

He explained that although candidates were usually allowed to select examination towns closest to their locations, the 2026 UTME registration commenced before structural anomalies were however detected in Ekiti’s examination towns’ configuration.

Benjamin said the anomalies necessitated urgent adjustments in the interest of candidates, prompting the temporary suspension of town selection in the state.

According to him, candidates will be unable to select any examination town in Ekiti while the adjustment process is ongoing.

He, however, said that the process would be concluded shortly.

Benjamin expressed regret over any inconveniences the measure might cause the candidates affected during the ongoing registration exercise in the state.

He said that the board routinely monitored its operations and promptly addressed challenges reported by candidates.

Benjamin reaffirmed the board’s commitment to continuously improving its processes to ensure that all candidates were treated with dignity and respect.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has described as untrue, the claim that candidates already in universities have been barred from registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, and Direct Entry, DE.

JAMB debunked the claim on Wednesday in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in Abuja.

“This deliberate misrepresentation is being propagated by some unscrupulous self-styled education advocates for parochial interests,” he said.

He added that in order to prevent multiple admissions, JAMB had directed that candidates should disclose their matriculation status during registration.

The spokesman explained: “It is not an offence for a candidate to register for the UTME/DE while still enrolled in an institution. However, failure to disclose such status constitutes an offence. Disclosure simply means that once a candidate secures admission through the latest registration, the former admission automatically ceases to subsist.”

He said that findings had shown that many matriculated students were engaged as professional examination takers.

He added that the mandatory disclosure “expedites appropriate action whenever such candidates are apprehended.”

JAMB, he said, warned the public to be cautious of the so called education advocates who were perpetually eager to mislead candidates and parents for selfish gain.

He said the board urged parents to read guidelines very well and avoid accepting distorted interpretations by the so called advocates.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has screened a total of 924 Computer Based Test, CBT, centres across the country, ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

The registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, made this known on Saturday during an interactive session with state Commissioners for Education, ahead of the UTME exercise in Lagos.

The centres, he said, would not participate in the 2026 UTME registration and examination until they must have gone through a final test.

His words: “Prior to commencement of registration exercise, the board conducts accreditation exercise, to check the suitability of each CBT centre, for the conduct of its examination.

“A rigorous accreditation exercise of the CBT centres had been carried out for the 2026 UTME.

“Members of the accreditation team included the Chief External Examiners (vice chancellors, Rectors and Provosts), Technical Advisors, JAMB State Coordinators, and JAMB Technical Officers.”

He stated that the essence of the meeting was to ensure collaboration with commissioners for education in order to ensure hitch-free registration and conduct of the 2026 UTME and Direct Entry, DE.

He added that it was also to share JAMB’s vision, policies, and strategies for the 2026 exercise, including new measures to strengthen integrity and efficiency.

“It is to further leverage state platforms and networks to support effective public sensitisation and information dissemination to candidates and stakeholders.

“The meeting is also to obtain constructive inputs from commissioners to refine plans and improve operational outcomes, recognising their critical role in grassroots engagement.

“Also, it is to strengthen joint efforts to curb examination malpractice and other unwholesome practices,” the registrar stated.

Oloyede explained that the Mock and UTME candidates would register first before the DE candidates.

“The sale of UTME application document, which is the ePIN, will start earlier than commencement of actual registration which is January 19 to February 26.

“Actual UTME registration period is between January 26 to February 28 at all approved CBT centres.

“The close of mock selection is February 16 while the sale of DE application documents and E-PIN vending will commence on March 2, and close by April 25,” he said.

He added that registration would be available at all JAMB offices.

Oloyede said that only candidates who would be at least 16 years old by September 30 were eligible to apply for the 2026 UTME.

“Government considers underage candidates under 16 for admission as a rare exception.

“For 2026 UTME, underage candidates are those who will be less than 16 years old by September 30.

“They will undergo an intensive evaluation to determine their eligibility for a waiver,” he said.

He added that such a candidate must have scored at least 80 per cent in each of the UTME, A’ level, Post UTME, SSCE and the exceptional candidate assessment.

“The UTME results of the underage candidates will be released only at the conclusion of the complete evaluation process,” he said.

He, however, warned that any candidate found involved in examination malpractices would be disqualified.

“JAMB uncover syndicates during the 2025 UTME who specialise in identity manipulation.

“Part of the manipulation includes the use of multiple NINs by a single candidate for double registration, impersonation, or any form of identity manipulation.

“Any candidate found to be involved in multiple registrations shall have all associated registrations nullified.

“They shall be disqualified from the examination and admission processes,” he said.

Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, ADF, and the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced a ₦1 trillion scholarship programme to expand access to education and promote academic excellence across Nigeria.

Starting in 2026, the initiative will support over 1.3 million students from all 774 local government areas, with ₦100 billion committed annually for 10 years.

The programme targets Nigeria’s most vulnerable learners and is structured into three categories: Aliko Dangote STEM Scholars – 30,000 undergraduates in public universities and polytechnics will receive tuition support of up to ₦600,000 per year; Aliko Dangote Technical Scholars – 5,000 TVET trainees will get essential study materials and technical tools; MHF Dangote Secondary School Girls Scholars – 10,000 girls in public schools will receive uniforms, books, and learning supplies, prioritizing states with high out-of-school rates.

To be implemented in partnership with NELFUND, JAMB, NIMC, NUC, NBTE, WAEC, and NECO, the scheme will use a merit-based, fully digital system for selection and disbursement.

Dangote emphasized that that was a strategic investment in human capital, aimed at reducing inequality and driving national development.

The initiative aligns with government education reforms and will be overseen by a Programme Steering Committee chaired by Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage.

Dangote pledged 25% of his wealth to sustain the programme, with progress reviewed under Dangote Group’s Vision 2030 strategy.

The programmes is to be implemented through strong collaboration with national institutions including NELFUND, JAMB, NIMC, NUC, NBTE, WAEC, and NECO, ensuring transparent beneficiary selection, verification, and efficient digital disbursement.

Heads of all the agencies were present at the launch.

Dangote said the intervention was aimed at Nigeria’s most vulnerable learners, noting that financial hardship, not lack of talent, was the primary reason many drop out of school.

“This is not only charity. This is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future. Every child we keep in school strengthens our economy. Every student we support reduces inequality. Every scholar we empower becomes a future contributor to national development,” he said.

“Our young people are not asking for handouts. They are asking for opportunities. They are asking for a chance to learn, to grow, to compete and to succeed. And we believe they deserve that chance.”

Dangote, who said the ADF which had historically focused on health and nutrition as core areas of human capital development emphasized that the current economic climate had made educational support an urgent imperative.

Said he: “No young person should have their future cut short because of financial hardship. We are stepping forward to ensure students stay in school and pursue their ambitions. This initiative is more than financial aid—it is an investment in human capital, with ripple effects on economies, societies, and future generations. When a student gets a scholarship, entire communities stand to benefit.”

He described education as “the foundation on which every prosperous society is built”, calling it the most powerful equaliser and the strongest engine of social mobility.

Despite this, he warned that many talented Nigerian students continued to face financial pressures that threatened to push them out of school.

Their dreams, he said, were limited not by ability but by opportunity.

“We cannot allow financial hardship to silence the dreams of our young people — not when the future of our nation depends on their skills, resilience and leadership,” Dangote said.

Noting that this concern informed the Foundation’s new Education Support Initiative, Dangote stressed that the effort was intended as a starting point rather than a standalone solution.

“A single organization cannot solve Nigeria’s education challenges alone,” he said. “Government has a role. The private sector has a role. Communities and families have a role. When we work together, we can transform education — and with it, transform Nigeria’s future.”

Addressing young Nigerians directly, Dangote said: “your dreams matter. Your education matters. Your future matters. We believe in you. We are investing in you. And we are committed to ensuring that you do not walk this journey alone.”

The Foundation, he said, would use a merit-based and fully digital system for verification, disbursement and monitoring, working in partnership with NELFUND, JAMB, NIMC, NUC, NBTE, WAEC and NECO.

Dangote said the focus would be on measurable outcomes including retention, completion rates and post-school impact.

He noted that the vision behind the initiative was to give every deserving child the chance to learn — unfettered by cost, free to dream, and equipped to achieve.

To oversee implementation, a Programme Steering Committee has been constituted, chaired by Justice Sidi Dauda Bage, Emir of Lafia.

Other members include former vice-chancellors, senior education administrators, technical advisors and representatives of the Dangote family.

Dangote also disclosed that the programme’s long-term sustainability was tied to his formal commitment to allocate 25 per cent of his wealth to the Aliko Dangote Foundation, adding that the progress on the initiative would be reviewed in 2030 as part of Dangote Group’s Vision 2030 strategy.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda in the education sector, alongside the Federal Ministry of Education, SUBEBs and state governments, for “deliberate and steady efforts” to support learners amid economic pressures.

Vice President Kashim Shettima who lauded Dangote for his vision in business and national development said the new intervention demonstrated the critical role of private-sector actors in national development.

He noted that Nigeria’s demographic growth made urgent investment in education indispensable, warning that “a population becomes a liability only when it is uneducated.”

“Alhaji Aliko Dangote, through his far-reaching philanthropy, has set in motion the single largest private-sector education support intervention in the history of this country,” Shettima said. “What he has done here today is a lesson to each of us. This is nation-building in its purest form.”

Shettima highlighted ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, strengthened basic education infrastructure through UBEC, expanded TETFUND interventions and accelerated technical and vocational programmes.

He said these reforms aim to improve Nigeria’s poor Human Capital Index ranking and prepare young people for a skills-driven global economy.

Describing Dangote’s philanthropy as “structural and long term,” Shettima said the initiative aligned strongly with the government’s priority of expanding equitable access to education.

“No nation surpasses the aspirations of its most committed patriots,” he said. “The legacy of Alhaji Aliko Dangote reminds us that greatness is not measured by wealth but by the number of lives one lifts from the shadows into the light.”

The Vice President added that the Aliko Dangote Foundation programme would widen opportunities for thousands of learners and bolster the FG’s efforts to build a competitive workforce.

He called for stronger collaboration between government, the private sector and development partners to address persistent gaps in the education system.

In his presentation, Education Minister Tunji Alausa described the initiative as “pure human capital development,” saying it aligns with the Tinubu administration’s education sector renewal plan of transforming Nigeria from resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy and is significant because every local government area will benefit.

He said by the end of the first decade of the execution of the scholarship programme, it was estimated that over 170,000 girl child would have gone to school.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, speaking on behalf of the 36 state governors, also commended the initiative and pledged the governors’ full support.

Chairman of the Programme Steering Committee, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage, Emir of Lafia, said the scheme was unprecedented and praised Dangote’s patriotism in reinvesting his wealth to uplift other Nigerians.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, said Dangote’s impact in driving private-sector transformation remained unmatched, describing the new initiative as both transformational and a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future.

He recalled how ADF had come to the aid of his community during a devastating communal feud that led to destruction of several property.

In her virtual remark from United States of America, United Nation deputy secretary General, Amina Mohammed said the scholarship scheme would provide environment for children to learn and for family to prosper.

The scholarship programme represents the most extensive private-sector scholarship commitment in Nigeria’s history and reinforces ADF’s mission to expand opportunities, drive social impact, and enhance the wellbeing of individuals and communities across the country.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has extended the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities.

The admission process was earlier scheduled to end on Friday, October 31, 2025.

However, JAMB stated that following the appeal for extension as a result of the disruption caused by a number of factors including a court order directing that status quo should remain on 2025/26 admission list, which was only clearly lifted by the same court on 28th October, 2025, the deadline had been extended.

The new deadline is Monday, November 17, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement made available to FrontPage by the spokesman of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

The statement reads in full:

“You will recall that the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on 18th July, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, had fixed Friday, 31st October, 2025, as the deadline for all public universities to conclude their admission processes.

“The Board commends the zeal, diligence, and commitment demonstrated by the various public universities toward meeting this approved timeline, which was intended to allow other tiers of tertiary institutions; the private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprises institutions, to complete their respective admissions ahead of the overall closing date of 31st December, 2025.

“However, owing to some emergent and compelling circumstances, the Board has found it necessary to extend the deadline for the completion of 2025 admissions into public universities from Friday, 31st October 2025, to Monday, 17th November, 2025.

The decision to extend the timeline is anchored on two key considerations:

“1. AVCNU has specially appealed for extension due to the disruption caused by a number of factors including a court order directing that status quo should remain on 2025/26 admission list, which was only clearly lifted by the same court on 28th October, 2025.

“2. In a bid to expand access in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the NUC on 29th October, 2025, released a list of 229 programmes recently accredited for 37 universities. Admission into those programmes are just being scheduled.

“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, 17th November, 2025.

“While expressing appreciation to all institutions for their tireless efforts and cooperation in meeting the initial target date, the Board wishes to emphasize that this new deadline is final and must be strictly adhered to.

“The Board remains committed to ensuring a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals and institutional autonomy.”
