Isola is one of the leading aspirants for the governorship position of Ogun State on the platform of the APC.

It would be recalled that the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Monday announced Yayi as the consensus candidate of the APC after a caucus meeting.

But in a statement made available to FrontPage on Tuesday, reacting on the outcome of the caucus meeting, Isola said he was still consulting with critical stakeholders to announce his position on the issue.

He said the consultations were necessary in order to ensure that every decision taken was not only strategic but also a reflection of the collective interest of the generality of the people.

The statement reads in part:

“I am sure you are aware of the outcome of the APC State Caucus meeting recently held in Abeokuta.

“As a democrat deeply committed to the values of inclusiveness, consultation, and responsible leadership, I wish to assure you that I am actively engaging in broad and meaningful consultations with critical stakeholders and respected voices across our political and social landscape.

“These consultations are essential to ensuring that every decision taken is not only strategic but also reflective of the collective interest, aspirations, and stability of our people.”

He urged members of his support groups to remain calm, steadfast, and confident in the process.

“Leadership, at defining moments such as this, demands patience, clarity, and a firm commitment to the greater good,” he said.

He announced that upon the conclusion of thes wide-ranging consultations, a comprehensive and well-considered position would be formally communicated.

“Let us continue to uphold unity, peace, and constructive engagement as we navigate this important phase together,” he said.

In a personal message, Isola, Ogun State gubernatorial aspirant in the 2027 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, described President Tinubu as a visionary, resilient, and transformative leader whose unwavering commitment to the progress and prosperity of Nigeria continued to inspire millions of citizens both at home and in the diaspora.

“Today, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks another milestone in his remarkable journey of public service, I join family, friends, political associates, and well-wishers in celebrating a man of uncommon courage, strategic insight, and deep patriotism,” Isola said.

He commended the president for his bold reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy, strengthening national security, and enhancing the country’s standing on the global stage.

Isola expressed confidence that under President Tinubu’s stewardship, Nigeria would overcome current challenges and emerge stronger, more united, and economically vibrant.

“Mr. President, your leadership has been defined by audacity and a clear sense of purpose. As you turn 74, I pray that Almighty God grants you continued wisdom, good health, and the strength to steer our great nation to greater heights,” he added.

Isola wished President Tinubu many more years of impactful service to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the African continent at large.

The delegation comprised political stakeholders and  associates, including a former chairman of Ijebu Ode local government, Alhaji Tajudeen Onabanjo; a former secretary of the same local government, Adewale Balogun, as well as party elders, leaders, youths and women.

The delegation was warmly received by the daughter of the deceased, Barrister Olivia Bukola Onabanjo, Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission.

The condolence visit coincided with the presence of the Vice Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Hon. Titilayo Adeyemi, who had also come to commiserate with the family.

Adeyemi offered prayers for Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, invoking divine blessings, guidance, and intervention upon his future political endeavours.

He also prayed fervently for the repose of the soul of Chief Mrs. Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo and for strength, comfort, and unity for the entire Onabanjo family.

After signing the condolence register, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola expressed his heartfelt sympathies, describing the late Chief Mrs. Onabanjo as one of the foremost First Ladies Ogun State has ever produced.

He noted that her rare distinction lay not merely in her status, but in her lifelong decision to live among the people, sharing their hopes, struggles, and aspirations even long after her husband’s exit from office.

According to him, death might take the body, but it could not erase the memory of kindness, humility, and service.

Ambassador Isola charged women across Ogun State and Nigeria at large to emulate the virtues embodied by Chief Mrs. Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, stressing that true influence was rooted in character, compassion, and consistency rather than position or privilege.

In further reflection, he eulogized the towering legacy of her husband, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, recalling his political journey from Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government to a legislator representing Ijebu Ode Constituency in the old Western Region, and eventually Governor of Ogun State.

Ambassador Isola highlighted how Chief Onabanjo’s governance philosophy was deeply inspired by the progressive ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, particularly in the areas of free education, accessible healthcare, and integrated rural development, policies that continue to shape societal consciousness decades later.

Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola offered solemn prayers for the souls of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, and his beloved wife, Chief Mrs. Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo.

He also prayed earnestly for Barrister Olivia Bukola Onabanjo and the entire Onabanjo family, asking God to grant them strength, wisdom, and enduring peace.

Gopichand Hinduja, listed at his death, aged 85, as the richest man in Britain, was one of four brothers who took their father’s Indo-Iranian trading business and turned it into a vast international conglomerate.

It spread across everything from motor manufacturing to their own banks and Bollywood film-making, and had a value put on it by this year’s Sunday Times Rich List of more than £35bn.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ambassador Isola said “I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Gopichand P. Hinduja, an extraordinary global industrialist and a man of uncommon humility. His death is a profound personal loss to me.

“Our friendship began when he invited me to Diwali and expressed a remarkable confidence in Nigeria’s potential. He told me that, although he had never engaged closely with any Nigerian commissioner before, he had studied my work and believed that with my leadership, he could finally explore meaningful business with Nigeria.

“That conversation opened the door to discussions about establishing an assembly plant in our country, an initiative he pursued with genuine interest and commitment.

“Gopichand was a visionary leader whose warmth and sincerity transcended borders. He believed in partnerships rooted in integrity, and he saw the possibilities in Nigeria with clarity and hope.

“I will remember him as a friend, a statesman of industry, and a man who extended to me an uncommon level of personal regard. His legacy will endure, and the seeds of cooperation he planted will continue to inspire future engagement between our nations.

In a display of interfaith harmony and cultural solidarity, the ancient city of Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, became a centre of royal celebration last week as prominent figures from across Nigeria converged to mark the 20th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo CFR, Okukenu IV, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland.

The event, which underscored the enduring bonds of leadership, community, and national unity, had a special Jumat prayer service, organized by the Egba Muslim Community at the iconic Egba Central Mosque in Kobiti, Abeokuta, on Friday, 14th November, 2025, as one of the major highlights.

Among the galaxy of eminent personalities at the Jumat Service were the Chief Celebrant himself, Oba Adedotun, a Christian as well as His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the spiritual head of Nigerian Muslims.

They were both ushered to Mosque by Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, OFR, the Tayese of Egbaland and Baba Adinni of Ogun State.

The Sultan’s presence at the Alake’s coronation anniversary was more than ceremonial—it was a profound gesture of respect and shared purpose.

During prayers, Sultan Abubakar, while invoking blessings on the Alake said “I thank Allah for this day of the 20th coronation anniversary of our brother.” Oba Adedotun reciprocated warmly, thanking his fellow monarch for taking him and his people seriously by coming all the way from his high throne in Sokoto down to Abeokuta to attend the event.

One of  the most poignant tributes came from Ambassador Isola, OFR, who also gave the vote of thanks at the Alake Palace.

A proud son of Egbaland, Isola, bearing chieftaincy titles such as Tayese of Egbaland, Tayese Oke-Ona Egba, Olu-Omo Gbagura, Otitifarati of Owu Kingdom, and Otun of Erunwon Egba, drew from personal and familial ties to amplify his message.

He reflected on his role 20 years ago as chairman of the Planning Committee for the coronation of the Alake and noted that witnessing the Alake reach 20 years on the throne—strong, beloved and impactful—was a divine blessing and a fulfilment of destiny.

Ambassador Isola also recalled the first visit of the Sultan to Egba Central Mosque in the year 2006 after his installation as the Sultan of Sokoto. He appreciated the Sultan for seeing Abeokuta as a home having served in Abeokuta during his military service to the nation.

He saluted the Alake for his exemplary traditional leadership and applauded the Sultan for his national contributions to peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence.

Isola had earlier penned a heartfelt open letter to Oba Gbadebo, hailing his two decades on the throne as “20 Years of Grace, Wisdom, and Royal Impact.”

In the tribute, shared widely among Egba indigenes and others globally, Isola reflected on the monarch’s transformative leadership: “With a heart filled with admiration, joy, and gratitude to the Almighty, I join millions of proud Egba sons and daughters across the globe in celebrating Your Majesty’s 20th Coronation Anniversary—a journey of grace, wisdom, and purposeful royal leadership.”

He lauded the Alake’s commitment to education, infrastructure, and cultural preservation, crediting him with elevating Egbaland’s stature on the world stage. “Your reign has been a testament to the Egba spirit—resilient, innovative, and unyieldingly devoted to progress,” Isola wrote, urging continued unity in the face of contemporary challenges.

The ambassador’s involvement in Egba affairs extends beyond words; his family’s legacy is deeply intertwined with Egbaland’s history. Just last year, during the 2024 Lisabi Festival, Isola’s grandfather, the late Chief Braimoh Tairu Olaleye—former Otun of Egbaland—was posthumously named Hero of the Year for his invaluable contributions to community development.

Oba Gbadebo, in unveiling the honour, praised the elder Isola’s diligence, a sentiment that resonated during the 20th coronation anniversary of the Alake, as Ambassador Isola stood in solidarity with the throne.

The coronation anniversary celebrations of Alake extended beyond religious rites as it encompassed a week-long programme of cultural displays, youth empowerment seminars, and inter-community dialogues. Egba sons and daughters from the diaspora, including professionals and traditionalists, returned home to pay homage, reinforcing the Alake’s vision of a progressive Egbaland.

Oba Gbadebo who ascended the throne in 2005, has overseen remarkable strides within his domain. As he looks ahead to the next era, the echoes of solidarity from far and near assure that Egbaland’s light will continue to shine brightly.

Ambassador Isola, at the meeting fielded questions from chairmen and representatives of registered political parties in Ogun State.

Speaking to the party leaders, he said: “I have no other state to call my own,” emphasizing his heritage.

Ambassador Isola highlighted his roots, from Balogun Buraimoh Tairu, who was the Otun of Egbaland between 1907 and 1913 and a member of the Egba United Government, whose picture still adorns the Centenary Hall in Ake, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Balogun Buraimoh Tairu was also named Hero of the Year at the 37th Lisabi Day Festival.

In addition, he mentioned his uncles, cousins, nieces, brothers, sisters, and nephews all over Abeokuta and beyond.

Isola, the Tayese of Oke-Ona Egba and Egbaland, outlined what he called the “three pillars of leadership.”

These, according to him, are character, capacity, and capability.

He pointed out that his track record—from political party activities to local government administration in Ogun State as an elected Chairman; the Federal Executive Council as Minister and international diplomacy as Ambassador — had equipped him with all three qualities in abundance.

He, in particular, recalled his tenure as elected Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, during which he also served as Chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen in Ogun State and later Coordinator of the South West Local Government body.

Those roles, he said, honed his leadership skills before national and global assignments followed.

Highlighting his diplomatic triumph during the COVID-19 pandemic, Isola recounted how he worked for Nigeria’s exclusion from the UK’s travel red list which he branded “travel apartheid.”

The event occurred within six months of his assumption of office as High Commissioner, and said he leveraged personal networks and diplomatic engagements to reverse the decision, thus averting a potential diplomatic row.

“Performance at the local level opened doors nationally and internationally,” Ambassador Isola told the party chieftains.

The IPAC leaders listened with rapt attention as Isola spoke of giving back to the state that “sharpened my reflexes and projected me globally.”

His words stirred visible admiration, with several party chairmen acknowledging his eloquence and preparedness to contest election in Ogun State.

The session ended with attendees urging Isola to contest the 2027 governorship election.

“Declare now!” one party leader shouted, followed by a loud applause from others spontaneously.

Responding with a smile, Isola said consultations are ongoing and he prayed God guided him aright.

Isola, Aare Tayese Ago Iwoye, Apesin Isiwo, Ijebu and Nigeria’s immediate past High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, made the remark on Sunday in a condolence message titled “A Statesman Monarch Ascends: The Iroko Has Fallen in Ijebuland.”

Commiserating with the people of Ijebuland, Governor Dapo Abiodun and the entire people of Ogun State, he said, “His departure leaves a void in our hearts, but his extraordinary legacies will forever illuminate the path of Ijebuland, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.”

The full statement reads:

“Today, Sunday, 13th July 2025, the earth stood still in Ijebu, and the heavens welcomed one of its finest creations.

“It is with a heavy heart and unspeakable grief that I join the entire Ijebu Nation, Ogun State, and Nigeria at large in mourning the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, CFR, Ogbagba II, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

“His departure leaves a void in our hearts, but his extraordinary legacies will forever illuminate the path of Ijebuland, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

“Throughout his illustrious reign, Oba Adetona brought global attention to the depth and dignity of Ijebu culture. His reign was a shining example of how tradition and modernity can harmoniously coexist. As the Aare Tayese Ago Iwoye, I mourn him not only as a royal father but as a lighthouse whose moral clarity guided generations of public servants, including myself.

“In a world where many wear the crown, Awujale stood out. He challenged tyranny, defended justice, and preserved the soul of our people through wisdom and unwavering integrity. His influence extended beyond palace walls into classrooms, courts, national discourse, and diplomatic tables.

“This is more than the end of a reign. It is the closing of a monumental chapter in the book of Nigerian history. And while we mourn, we also rise in tribute—grateful for the decades he gave to truth, justice, and Ijebu identity.

“Oba Adetona was a monarch par excellence, a visionary leader, and a custodian of culture whose reign exemplified wisdom, integrity, and dedication to the progress of his people.

“His transformative leadership elevated Ijebuland as a beacon of unity, economic development, and cultural preservation.

“The Awujale’s commitment to education, exemplified by his endowment of the Oba Sikiru Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance at Olabisi Onabanjo University, underscored his belief in knowledge as a cornerstone of societal advancement.

“His establishment of the Ijebu Development Board on Poverty Reduction further demonstrated his passion for uplifting the lives of his people, fostering empowerment and sustainable growth.

“As a bridge-builder, Oba Adetona’s influence transcended Ijebuland, earning him respect across Nigeria and beyond. His counsel was sought by leaders at all levels, and his unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and good governance left an indelible mark on our nation’s history.

“His reign was a testament to the enduring power of traditional institutions in fostering peace, unity, and development in a modern world.

“I join His Excellency, the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the people of Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigerians worldwide in mourning the loss of this iconic monarch.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the royal family, the Ijebu Traditional Council, and the entire Ijebu community.

“May the Almighty grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

“As we reflect on Oba Sikiru Adetona’s monumental contributions, let us honour his memory by upholding the values of unity, progress, and service to humanity that defined his reign.

“His legacies will continue to inspire generations, and his name will remain etched in the annals of our history as a true father, leader, and custodian of our heritage.
