The Police Command in Rivers has said that its officers killed four notorious kidnappers, allegedly involved in a series of abductions within the state and environs.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, identifying the deceased suspects as responsible for the abduction and murder of one Hope Georgewill.

Iringe-Koko stated that Georgewill, Chief Executive Officer of HMG Attitude Limited, and two others were kidnapped along the Cotton Channel, Bakana River, on March 26.

She noted that the abduction was carried out by a group of sea pirates led by one Preye Ngian-Ngian, a native of Degema local government area of Rivers.

“After the abductions, a ransom of N2 million was paid to secure Georgewill’s release.

“However, the victim was ultimately killed, and his body was later recovered and deposited at the mortuary,” she confirmed.

Following Georgewill’s death, Iringe-Koko reported that the police launched an intelligence-led investigation, which led to the arrest of two suspects.

She said that the suspects subsequently led operatives from the command’s Anti-Cultism Unit to the gang’s hideout in a creek, off the Bonny waterways.

According to her, upon arrival at the location, the police operatives came under heavy gunfire from the suspects.

“Our operatives responded with decisive force, and in the ensuing exchange of gunfire, two of the suspects were fatally wounded, while others fled the scene with injuries,” Iringe-Koko stated

She further revealed that the two arrested suspects, who had earlier guided the operatives to the location, attempted to escape amid the chaos but were apprehended with gunshot wounds.

“All four injured suspects were immediately transported to the Police Clinic for medical treatment, but were confirmed dead on arrival by the attending medical personnel,” she added.

Items recovered from the hideout include an operational speedboat, 80 horsepower and 70 horsepower outboard engines, the mobile phone belonging to the late Georgewill, one live cartridge, and various food items.

The police spokesperson noted that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing members of the gang.

“The Rivers State Police Command remains resolutely committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the state,” Iringe-Koko concluded.

The police in Rivers have confirmed the death of a couple who reportedly died from inhaling generator fumes in their apartment.

The unidentified man and his partner had powered a generator inside their home, which led to their untimely demise.

An eyewitness identified as James, on Wednesday, said that the incident occurred in the Port Harcourt township area.

He explained that due to a power outage and heavy rainfall at the time of the night, the couple resorted to placing their generator inside the passage of their apartment.

“They must have assumed that positioning the generator in the passage would not affect them in the bedroom,” he said.

James recounted that by late Saturday morning, neighbours became concerned when the couple had not come out of their room.

He said after the co-tenants waited and knocked on their door to ascertain their wellbeing that they decided to break into the apartment.

“Upon forcing entry, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the couple.

“Subsequently, the incident was reported to the Central Police Station in Port Harcourt Township,” he narrated.

Confirming the incident, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the police command stated that the couple died from carbon monoxide inhalation.

She further disclosed that their corpses had been deposited at the morgue.

Dr Chinazor Offor, a medical practitioner based in Port Harcourt, explained that carbon monoxide displaces oxygen from haemoglobin, leading to heart and respiratory failure.

“If a person is exposed for between five to 15 minutes, the heart ceases to pump blood, which ultimately affects both the brain and respiratory system,” she said.

Offor advised the public against placing generators near living spaces, warning that generators should be positioned far from homes to prevent direct exposure to toxic fumes.

The Police Command in Rivers has arrested four suspects for allegedly murdering two children for ritual purposes.

The victims, Chizaram Onuche and Chidinma Onuche, both seven years old, were brutally killed, and their body parts dismembered for money rituals.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the command, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, confirming that the suspects were apprehended by the ant-kidnapping unit.

She revealed that the suspects, including a native doctor, lured and drugged the minors before killing them.

“Aniekan Uko, 27, a native of Akwa Ibom State, lured the children to an uncompleted building in the second Pipeline area of Rukpokwu, Port Harcourt, where he drugged them.

“After sedating them with a drink known as Black Bullet, he proceeded to slaughter and dismember them, collecting their blood in a bottle,” she said.

Iringe-Koko said that following his arrest, Aniekan reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that he was introduced to ritual killings by a native doctor whom he had previously seen performing rituals for other individuals.

“Subsequently, on March 23, operatives arrested the native doctor, Kingsley Opurum, 43, a native of Etche area, Rivers State for his alleged role in the killings.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the native doctor instructed Aniekan to provide human body parts and blood to perform a ritual intended to make him wealthy,” Irine-Koko added.

She further disclosed that the police also arrested Aniekan’s girlfriend and one Friday Silas, 47, who allegedly allowed the ritual killings to take place in his uncompleted building in Rukpokwu.

Officers who visited the crime scene recovered several incriminating items, including photographs of unidentified individuals and a bottle filled with the minor’s blood.

Others include an empty black bullet drink container, and a spoon used to scoop the blood of the victims.

The police spokesperson said that the bodies of the children have been deposited at the morgue for an autopsy.

Iringe-Koko said that the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, CP Olesegun Adepoju, assured the public that perpetrators involved in the gruesome killings would face full prosecution.

“Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details and identify any additional accomplices,” he concluded.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, made the confirmation while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

She said that details of the explosion were still sketchy, and assured that further information would be provided as investigations progressed.

The explosion, which occurred on Monday midnight, damaged the pipeline transporting crude to the Bonny Terminal, a key crude oil export facility.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, told journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday that the victims were rescued unharmed.

According to Iringe-Koko, the suspects allegedly conspired to defraud two women of their babies.

She said that the two female suspects, Ugochukwu Onyebuchi and Ogechi Nmezi, reportedly lured one Gift Chimanu, a mother of a two-month-old baby girl into their scheme.

‘’They also lured Hope Onyebuchi, who has a one-year-old baby boy, claiming to have been officials of Government Approved Adoption Agency,’’ she said.
