The national dialogue will now hold on the same day, in a hybrid format, accommodating both in-person and virtual participation.

A statement signed by the Foundation on Saturday said the adjustment had become necessary following the tragic passing of Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief (Mrs) HID Awolọwọ.

The foundation noted that the loss had cast a pall of grief over the Awolọwọ family and the larger community that holds the legacy of the patriarch and matriarch in deep reverence.

According to the Foundation, participants who are able to attend physically are invited to the Ẹfunyẹla Hall in Ikenne, Ogun State, while others are encouraged to join the proceedings online, ensuring broad and inclusive engagement despite recent developments.

The Board of the Foundation, in acknowledging this moment of mourning, also resolved that a special segment of the dialogue will be devoted to honouring the memory of the departed, celebrating his contributions and affirming the enduring values of service, integrity, and public-spirited leadership that define the Awolọwọ heritage.

Despite the sorrow that frames this adjustment, the Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining national conversations on women’s political empowerment—an area of advocacy to which Chief (Mrs) HID Awolọwọ dedicated much of her life.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known on Saturday during the Afotamodi Day grand finale with the theme “A Legacy of Culture and Tradition,” held at the AUD Primary School, Isara-Remo.

The governor also announced that his administration had re-awarded the reconstruction of Awolowo Road in Ikenne, following the inability of the initial contractor to complete the project due to his failing health.

Governor Abiodun also added that Phase 3 of the Sagamu-Iperu-Ode-Saapade Road had been awarded, promising that the project would be completed on time.

He said: “I am saddened by the change of events regarding the contract we awarded for Awolowo Way. The contractor is indisposed at the moment, and God owns good health. Because of that, he can’t complete that contract. I have ordered that the contract be cancelled and re-awarded to another contractor. Very soon, that road project will be completed.

“We have also awarded the road from Ode to Isara; from that police station to Isara. The contractor will soon start work as soon as the rain stops.

“We have also awarded the contract from Ilara to Ilisan. The road that was affected by the airport is about 8 kilometres long. The contractor has resumed and commenced work. The road will pass through Ode to Akaka; it is a very long road. By the grace of God, that road will soon be completed.

“I also know that you are aware we have awarded Phase 3 of the Sagamu-Iperu-Ode-Saapade Road, and the contractor has started work on it. By the grace of God, that road will be completed.”

Governor Abiodun said that his administration appreciates the people of Isara for their immense contributions to the success of his administration, adding that he would continue to support the town and the people in their quest to develop it.

The governor donated N20 million towards the development of Isara-Remo, even as he promised to celebrate the next edition of the festival with the people of the town.

Earlier in his remarks, the Odemo of Isara-Remo, Oba Adebose Mayungbe, commended the sons and daughters of the town for their love and support, thanking Governor Abiodun for his love for his people and the state as a whole.

To be executed through direct labour, the housing estate will consist of 2-bedroom expandable bungalows, targeting low – and medium-class clients.

The move by the state government, according to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, would add to the housing stock in the state, provide housing solution to the emerging Remo Zone Economic Hub, with the expected influx of workers to the area and complement the state government’s investment in the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport.

According to Jagunmolu, each unit will be offered to the public at N8.5 million for the carcass option and N15 million for fully finished units with mortgage options available through Gateway Mortgage Bank.

“The estate will be fully serviced with all basic amenities like good drains and well-compacted road network, security architecture, lighting and water reticulation, playground, health and educational facilities as well as a Fire Service Station to serve the emerging economic cluster,” he said.

He added that the project would boost the local economy as 5,000 artisans and over 50 service providers (suppliers) would be available on-site.

“This will ensure the provision of means of livelihood to over 20,000 citizens considering the multiplier effect of engaging 5,000 artisans,” Jagunmolu added.

The project is expected to be completed in six months.

Crisis broke out in the town on Friday, March 5, 2021,  following the decision of the reigning Oba of the town, Oba Onakade, to celebrate a traditional festival known as “Jabajaba”,  towards which a town crier was sent round the community for the preparatory rites.

This did not go down well with the opposing side who allegedly attacked the town crier and seized the gong.

They also accused the Oba of trying to forcefully fence off a piece of land where traditional rites were  performed in the town.

This led to a fracas between the two parties, following which the two sides suffered some injuries and some homes damaged.

Policemen led by the Area Commander, Shagamu, were quickly deployed to Ikenne and the situation was brought under control.

On Saturday, March 6, 2021, the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, moved to the town for an on- the-spot assessment and peace talk.

The CP who met separately with the two opposing sides in Ikenne warned them to eschew violence and follow the due process of the law to resolve their differences.

While the CP and his entourage were still on the peace mission within the town, information was received that  some people suspected to be hired thugs and “Agbekoyas”, popular Yoruba  hunters group, were shooting sporadically in retaliation against their properties allegedly damaged, and in the process, injured about four people.

The CP there and then ordered that they should be chased and brought to book.

Six amongst them, namely: Olasunkanmi Enigbokan, Oluwashina Kafisanwo, Olusegun Odukoya, Lawal Adebayo, Suraju Animashun and Qudus Mabadeje were arrested with dangerous weapons and assorted charms and had confessed to committing the offence .

Meanwhile, the injured persons have been taken to the hospital and are responding positively to treatment, the police spokesman in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said.

No death was recorded contrary to rumour being peddled around.

The CP has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

He has further warned that anybody caught with offensive weapons or attempting to harm any person or destroy any property would be dealt with decisively.

However, peace is gradually returning to the town as more policemen have been deployed to beef up security in the town.

The spokesman of the police in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made these known on Tuesday in a statement made available to FrontPage.

He said the encounter with the robbers followed a distress call received by police at Ikenne divisional headquarters at about 5 00 a.m. that a group of armed robbers had blocked the road along Olabiro Street in Ikenne and were dispossessing people of their valuables at gun point.

Upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Ikenne, CSP Noukauba Onuma, mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene.

On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun battle which lasted about 30 minutes.

At the end of the duel, one of the suspected robbers was shot dead while others escaped with various degree of gunshot injuries

Recovered from the dead robber are one cut to size locally made gun, one live cartridge and one expended cartridge.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has praised his men for their display of gallantry.

He said that that should be a warning signal to any would be criminal who were deluding themselves that police were not working again to have a rethink.

He assured that the command will go to any length in protecting the people of Ogun State.

He also directed that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted for and brought to justice within the shortest possible time.
