Ubah made this known in a letter read by President of Senate, Godswill Akpabio at plenary.

He said that he decided to join the APC because of some irreconcilable differences in the YPP.

“I am writing to formally notify and inform you that due to irreconcilable differences, I have resolved to move from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“As a dedicated politician and a representative of the people, I believe that this move has become exigent owing to the growing need and call from my constituents to align myself with a political party that best reflects my values and aspirations.

“After careful consideration and due consultations with my family, constituents, political associates and critical stakeholders and after a thorough evaluation of the political landscape in Nigeria, I have come to the realisation and conclusion that the All Progressives Congress is better suited to champion the ideals and principles that I hold dear,” he said.

Ubah said that the APC’s commitment to good governance, economic development and social progress were part of reasons for his defection.

“I have been the national leader of the YPP for several years and I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences it availed me.

“However, as our nation faces numerous challenges which have trickled down to my constituency, it is crucial for me to align myself with a party that has the capacity to address these issues effectively for the betterment of my constituents and constituency.

“I am particularly impressed by the “Renewed Hope” initiative of President Bola Tinubu and I found it needful to join the train so as to initiate my Senatorial District into the laudable vision,’’ he said.

Ubah said he looked forward to working collaboratively with colleagues in the APC to bring about positive change in Nigeria.

“While thanking you Mr President for your usual and kind cooperation, please accept the assurances of my distinguished regards,” Ubah said.

Senate thereafter adjourned plenary until October 17, following the death of Rep. Abdulkadir Danbuga (APC-Sokoto State).

The governor made the declaration on Sunday in a Channels Television programme, Sunday Politics.

Speaking on the recent attack on the convoy of the lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Ifeanyi Ubah, which left some aides and security personnel dead, Soludo said the “unknown” gunmen were known.

His words: “They are not unknown gunmen. They are unknown to the extent that maybe they are not caught immediately in the act, but I can tell you that we have been catching quite a lot of them and they know that something is happening and that Anambra is not safe for them. Never again.”

The governor described the “unknown” gunmen as plain criminals with all of them coming from the South East.

He said: “It is lucrative criminality and idolatry. These are the two things that have come with it.

“Anambra is, without a doubt, the richest state in the south-east. So, this is the place where kidnapping has the highest value. So, you have the highest concentration here….

“Let me be clear about this. 100 per cent of all the people that we have caught are Igbos. There is no one who has somebody invading from somewhere. It is 100 per cent Igbos on Igbos.

“The first set of people we caught were 100 per cent Igbos from other south-east states and none from Anambra.

“But as we went on, we then discovered that a whole lot of the youths who have been taken to these bushes that got indoctrinated and initiated into all these kinds of things also happen to be citizens of Anambra State or indigenes of Anambra.”

While pointing out that his government was doing its best to ensure that peace returned to the state, he said it had become obvious that the state was no longer safe for criminals.

He said the security efforts were already yielding fruits as peace had started returning to the state gradually.

The camps of their criminals, he said, were already being decimated.

“It won’t be too long before we pin them down,” he assured.

The incident which took place in Enugwu Ukwu community, Njikoka local government area of the state, claimed the lives of some persons in the convoy, while Ubah narrowly escaped the bullets of the suspected assassins.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Anambra who confirmed the attack on Sunday, described the incident as unfortunate and sad.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng, had already led operatives to the scene of the attack around Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu market area.

The PPRO said though details of the incident were still sketchy, operatives were on ground while the situation was being monitored.

He said that further details would be communicated to the public.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the state has condemned in strong terms, the attack on Ubah’s convoy.

Soludo’s condemnation is contained in a statement by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.

The governor said his administration was fully determined to wipe out every act of criminality in the state.

He described the attack as the “last ditched-effort of a sinking boat” by criminal elements in the state.

He reassured the people that all security agencies were on full alert to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous attack who would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Soludo commiserated with the senator and the families of his aides killed as well as the state commissioner of police, for the policemen who also lost their lives.

Mr Kameh Ogbonna, media assistant to Ubah, had in a statement said the senator was able to escape the terror because of the bullet proof vehicle he was riding in.

“If not for the bullet proof jeep the senator was riding in, he would have been dead by now.

“We were passing Enugwu Ukwu junction when they hit us from all sides and as I speak with you Obum, the special aide to the senator is dead.

“About seven security operatives were hit by the assassins’ bullets,” he stated.
