The Kebbi State government has promised to support the families of the 10 police personnel and others killed by terrorists.

The ten slain policemen were killed in an ambush along Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba local government area of Kebbi.

Governor Nasir Idris disclosed this during a visit by a team sent to Kebbi by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan-Disu.

The team was led by the Deputy Inspector General in-charge of Operation, DIG Umar Shehu-Nadada, and was received at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Tuesday.

Idris, who condoled the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, over the loss of the officers in the line of their duties, noted that they were in that axis to assist sister security agencies to curb terrorism.

“I want to condole the IGP and the NPF over the sudden death of these officers. It is our tradition in Kebbi to assist the families of fallen officers who died in the line of duty.

“The Kebbi Government will come to the aid of the families of these officers who paid the supreme price,” he pledged.

Earlier, the IGP, represented by DIG Operation, extended condolence message to Governor Idris, the people of Kebbi, and the families of the fallen officers.

He vowed that the Nigeria Police Force would do everything possible to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“Please be rest assured that we are not going to relent in our efforts. All the attackers will be arrested and brought to book,” he assured.

The IGP commended the Kebbi government for its efforts in supporting the police in the state and disclosed that a squadron of the police would soon be established in the state.

A Kano High Court on Thursday sentenced a 19-year-old woman, Saudat Jibrin, to death by hanging for the murder of her 30-year-old husband, Salisu Idris, nine days after their wedding

Jibrin, who lives in Kumbosto local government area of Kano, was charged with culpable homicide.

Delivering judgment, Justice Maryam Sabo, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

“I hereby sentence Saudat Jibrin to death by hanging for culpable homicide. You have 90 days to appeal,” the judge ruled.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, told the court that Jibrin committed the offence on May 5, 2025, at Farawa Quarters in Kano.

He said that at about 9 p.m Jibrin laced her husband’s “Zoho” drink and slashed his throat with a knife nine days after their wedding.

Abba-Sorondinki presented two witnesses to prove its case against the defendant.

The convict denied committing the offence.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provision of Section 221(a) of the Penal Code.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Abdulfatah Muhammad, presented the convict to testify in her own defence.

Muhammad pleaded for leniency on behalf of his client, saying she had become a changed person while in custody, having memorised the Holy Qur’an.

He also urged the court to consider that the convict was the oldest child of her parents and that her siblings depended on her for their survival.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed satisfaction with the newly completed world-class television studio at the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Headquarters and the ongoing upgrade of the National Press Centre.

He described both projects as clear evidence of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s public information infrastructure.

The minister made the remarks on Monday after inspecting the facilities in Abuja.

According to him, the investments form part of federal government’s broader efforts to reposition government-owned media organisations to deliver quality public service broadcasting and information to Nigerians.

He said: “What we have seen today is the fulfilment of President Bola Tinubu’s promise to modernise Nigeria’s public broadcasting facilities.

“This is one of the best studios in Nigeria and among the finest on the African continent.”

He noted that the newly completed NTA studio ranked among the best broadcast facilities in Africa.

He added that the studio was part of a broader investment programme across the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA; the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN; the Voice of Nigeria, VON, and the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

The minister commended the management and staff of the NTA for supporting the transformation process, adding that the reforms extended beyond infrastructure to improved content, professionalism, innovation and human capacity development.

He said the ongoing procurement of modern broadcast equipment for NTA stations nationwide, alongside investments in other government media organisations, would significantly improve public service broadcasting across the country.

Idris also described the recently relaunched Digital Switch Over, DSO, programme as a major milestone that complements ongoing modernisation of Nigeria’s broadcasting industry.

He said: “The Digital Switch Over and the investments in modern broadcast infrastructure are opening new chapters for Nigeria’s information sector.

“By the time this reform programme is completed, Nigerians will witness a truly transformed public broadcasting system.”

The minister said that the President was equally committed to improving the welfare of workers in the information sector, stressing that “the administration recognises the importance of investing in both infrastructure and personnel.”

Shortly after inspecting the NTA facilities, the minister visited the National Press Centre at Radio House, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing renovation.

He said the upgraded National Press Centre would become a modern media hub equipped with world-class facilities and high-speed internet connectivity to support journalists covering government activities and national events.

“The National Press Centre must fulfil its mandate as Nigeria’s foremost media hub. It is being redesigned to provide journalists with conducive environment and modern facilities to carry out their professional responsibilities effectively,” he added.

The minister, therefore, urged the contractors to complete the project as scheduled, noting that he would return for final inspection before its inauguration.

According to him, ongoing upgrades across government-owned media institutions reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening public communication, promoting credible information dissemination and repositioning Nigeria’s information sector to meet international standards.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with traditional institutions as part of efforts to advance peace, security, national cohesion, and sustainable development across Nigeria.

Representing President Tinubu at the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, NTRC, on Monday in Dutse, Jigawa State, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, conveyed the president’s message to the gathering of traditional rulers and stakeholders from across Northern Nigeria.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fully recognises the strategic role of traditional institutions and remains committed to deepening engagement with traditional rulers in advancing peace, security, national cohesion, and development,” the minister said.

Idris commended the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for its continued contributions to peace, unity, security, and development across Northern Nigeria.

Speaking on the theme of the meeting, “Peace, Unity and Development of the North,” the minister said peace remained the foundation of development and prosperity.

“Without peace, development becomes difficult; without unity, progress cannot be sustained. The pursuit of both must remain our collective responsibility,” he stated.

The minister said traditional rulers remained critical partners in governance and peacebuilding because of their close relationship with communities and their ability to mobilise citizens around important national objectives.

“Across generations, our traditional rulers have served as custodians of culture and values, mediators in times of conflict, and trusted bridges between government and the people. Your proximity to the grassroots and your moral authority make you indispensable partners in governance, peacebuilding, and community mobilisation,” he said.

On security, Idris noted that the Tinubu administration had continued to strengthen coordination among the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, and other security institutions, leading to significant gains against criminal and terrorist groups across various parts of the country.

“While challenges remain, the administration is sustaining military operations, improving intelligence gathering, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration. At the same time, we recognise that lasting peace cannot be achieved through security operations alone. We must also address poverty, unemployment, social exclusion, and the lack of economic opportunities that often fuel insecurity,” he said.

The minister highlighted several economic initiatives of the federal government aimed at creating jobs, improving livelihoods, and supporting long-term growth.

These include interventions in agriculture, livestock development, solid minerals, infrastructure, education financing, consumer credit, and support for small businesses.

He described the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development as a landmark decision that would modernise livestock production, improve productivity, support pastoral and farming communities, and reduce conflicts associated with competition for natural resources.

“The ministry represents a strategic intervention in a sector with enormous potential for job creation, food security, export earnings, and national economic growth,” the minister stated.

Idris also highlighted the federal government’s four Legacy Highway Projects — the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Calabar-Abuja Super Highway, and the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Road Corridor — describing them as transformative investments that would strengthen national integration and unlock economic opportunities.

“These highways will improve connectivity, reduce transportation costs, expand access to markets, create jobs, and support the movement of agricultural produce and other goods. Beyond their economic value, they are investments in national unity,” he said.

The minister further noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda was focused on creating opportunities for Nigerians through people-centred programmes such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP, and targeted support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

According to him, development programmes can only succeed when citizens understand them and actively participate in them, stressing the important role of traditional rulers in promoting public awareness and countering misinformation.

“In an age characterised by the rapid spread of misinformation and disinformation, traditional rulers remain among the most trusted leaders in our society. Your continued support in promoting truth, dialogue, tolerance, and responsible citizenship is essential to our collective progress,” he said.

The minister expressed confidence that the meeting would generate practical recommendations that would further strengthen peace, deepen unity, and accelerate development across Northern Nigeria and the country as a whole.

He also extended condolences to the overnment and people of Katsina State, the traditional institution, and the family of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, describing his death as a tragic loss to the nation.

“We mourn the loss of a distinguished patriot who served Nigeria with honour and dedication. His death is a painful reminder of the urgent need to sustain our collective efforts against insecurity,” the minister said.

The meeting brought together traditional rulers, government officials, and key stakeholders from across Northern Nigeria to discuss strategies for promoting peace, unity, and development in the region.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya; Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi; Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin; Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu; the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi; the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji (Dr.) Adamu Abubakar Maje; the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli; the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Abubakar; the Aku Uka of Kwararafa and paramount ruler of the Jukun people, Dr. Manu Ishaku Adda Ali (Matakhitswen I), alongside many other eminent traditional rulers and distinguished personalities from across the country.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced four of the five defendants convicted for their involvement in the 2022 terror attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo in Ondo State, to death by hanging.

Judge Emeka Nwite, in a judgment, held that the Department of State Services, DSS, the prosecution in the trial, had been able to prove the charge against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.

The defendants were convicted on a nine-count charge preferred against them by the DSS.

The four convicts are Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, 25; Al Qasim Idris, 20; Jamiu Abdulmalik, 26 and Abdulhaleem Idris, 25.

Justice Nwite, who held that evidence presented had proven that the four men perpetrated the act, however acquitted the 5th defendant, Momoh Otuho Abubakar, 47, of the charge.

No fewer than 41 worshippers were killed and over 100 others injured during the terror attack that occurred on June 5, 2022 Sunday mass.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Nwite reviewed the evidence presented by the DSS and defence.

“The prosecution has successfully established the nine-count charge against the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants beyond reasonable doubt,” he ruled.

The judge, therefore, convicted Omeiza, Idris, Abdulmalik and Idris, and discharged and acquitted Abubakar, the oldest among them, of all nine counts.

On count one, which accused the defendants of belonging to a proscribed terrorist group known as Al-Shabaab, the judge reviewed the evidence presented by one of the DSS investigators identified as SSI.

He held the witness testified that the four defendants belonged to an extremist group operating in parts of Kogi and Ondo State under the coordination of one “Adoba.”

The judge said the evidence of the prosecution witness was not shaken, while the confessional statements of the convicts corroborated the prosecution’s case.

“From the foregoing, it is clear as day that the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants belong to a proscribed terrorist group, Al-Shabaab,” he ruled.

On count two, which accused the defendants of attending meetings where the Owo church attack was allegedly planned, the judge said the prosecution alleged that meetings were held on “30th May, 1st June, and 4th June, 2022 at Government Secondary School, Ogaminana, Kogi, and at a local mosque where the 2nd defendant’s father served as chief imam.”

He observed that the prosecution alleged that the meetings were organised to plan the attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo.

“The evidence by the prosecution witness was neither shaken nor discredited under cross examination,” the judge said.

He added that it was corroborated “by the confessional statements of Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik and Abdulhaleem Idris.”

While Abubakar denied attending any meeting connected to the attack, the judge held that the prosecution failed to link Abubakar to the meetings.

On count three, which bordered on conspiracy, aiding and abetting terrorism, the judge reviewed the law and judicial authorities.

He held: “Court can infer conspiracy from the acts of the defendants towards the commission of the offence.”

The court also relied on forensic evidence tendered by the prosecution.

Justice Nwite said the evidence showed direct communication among the defendants within months leading to the attack.

“The inference to be drawn from the evidence before the court is that the 1st to 4th defendant conspired with Adoba and others,” he said.

He held that the prosecution evidence remained unshaken during cross examination.

He, however, said Abubakar was not linked to the conspiracy.

On counts four and five, which bordered on hostage taking, kidnapping, hijacking, and possession of dangerous weapons, the judge juxtaposed the act with law.

He reviewed provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act relating to seizure of facilities, threats to life and hostage taking resulting in death.

He said evidence before the court showed that worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church were attacked during service, leading to the death of more than 41 persons and injuries to over 100 others.

The judge relied on testimonies of victims and other prosecution witnesses and noted that “The evidence by the prosecution witnesses was neither shaken nor discredited.”

He said this was contrary to the case of Abubakar who was not linked to the actual attack on the church.

On count six, which bordered on terrorism financing and possession and use of dangerous weapons, the judge reviewed evidence against Abubakar separately from the others.

The prosecution had alleged that Abubakar acted as a financial channel for the group and distributed funds before the attack through his point of sale terminals.

Justice Nwite noted that a DSS witness identified as SSI, told the court that about N800,000 moved through accounts linked to Abubakar weeks before the incident.

The prosecution also alleged that Abubakar maintained communication with members of the group during the period.

However, Abubakar denied the allegations.

But the judge held that the prosecution failed to establish the terrorism financing allegation against Abubakar beyond reasonable doubt.

He, therefore, discharged and acquitted him on count six.

The judge, however, held that the prosecution proved the count six case against the four convicts.

The judge, thereafter, considered counts seven to nine together, describing them as similar in nature.

Nwite, who said the counts bordered on the use and detonation of explosives at a public place resulting in death, grievous bodily harm and destruction, said the DSS was able to prove that the explosions caused deaths, injuries and destruction within the church premises.

He held that the confessional statements tendered by the prosecution were valid and voluntarily made.

He rejected claims that they were written and forced on the defendants by the DSS operatives.

He noted that the statements were signed, thumb-printed and not challenged in court.

He described the forensic digital evidence and call records showing repeated communication between key defendants before and after the attack as strong circumstantial evidence forming a chain of guilt.

The judge held that eyewitnesses and investigators gave consistent evidence that remained unshaken under cross examination.

Having found the four men guilty of the nine counts, the judge imposed life imprisonment on count one.

On count two and three, he imposed a 20-year imprisonment without option of fine.

The judge also imposed death sentences on counts four, five, six, seven, eight and nine and ordered that the convicts be “hanged by the neck until death.”

“May the Lord have mercy on your souls,” Justice Nwite said.

By MOHAMMED IDRIS

Today marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and an opportunity to reflect on the very concrete achievements of the Renewed Hope agenda – a comprehensive eight-point vision designed to touch the lives of every Nigerian and reposition our country.

The agenda – spanning energy and natural resources, agriculture, national security, macroeconomic reform, infrastructure, human capital, economic diversification, and improved governance and public service delivery – is both strategic and comprehensive, ensuring that no one is left out.

On this third anniversary we are very proud to affirm that President Tinubu has kept faith with the Nigerian people on all counts.

We have an economy that has grown to ₦441.5 trillion in 2025, up from ₦309.5 trillion in 2023. Inflation has more than halved – from the 34.80% recorded in December 2024 to 15.69% in April 2026. Nigeria’s non-oil exports surged to $6.1 billion in 2025, an 11.5% increase over 2024; while Federation tax revenue collection rose from ₦19.9 trillion in 2023 to ₦28.3 trillion in 2025.

Monthly disbursements by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) have doubled to over ₦2 trillion, from less than ₦1 trillion in 2023, while foreign capital inflows have grown nearly 90% – from $12.32 billion in 2024 to $23.22 billion in 2025. External reserves have this year hit a thirteen-year high of $50 billion.

Under President Tinubu, the Nigerian Exchange Group’s All Share Index (ASI) has surpassed the 250,000 mark – up from 55,000 in May 2023. Equity market capitalisation is up five-fold, to ₦160 trillion.

Oil and gas continue to be a mainstay of our national economy, even as we pursue diversification and grow our non-oil exports and revenues. Our oil production increased by 400,000 barrels per day between 2023 and 2025, delivering the highest onshore production level in 20 years. In 2024 and 2025, Nigeria captured 40% of the value of Africa’s upstream petroleum final investment decisions (FIDs), amounting to over $8 billion.

In the midstream petroleum sector, the Presidential CNG and Electric Vehicle initiative has mobilised over $2 billion in public and private investments, creating tens of thousands of new jobs while providing transport relief to hundreds of thousands of Nigerian commuters and households.

The National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has now benefited over 1.5 million students across 301 institutions, disbursing close to ₦300 billion in student loans and upkeep allowances.

In 2025, Nigeria formally exited the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, marking a new era in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.

Looking at where Nigeria stood when President Tinubu came into office, and where it stands today, there is no doubt that carefully designed reforms have helped the country navigate one of the most challenging eras in its history. We have resolved the previously intractable fuel subsidy problem, brought our tax laws into the 21st century, and built a more transparent and accountable fiscal architecture.

A new and enhanced chapter of cooperation with the United States and other partners is delivering significant security gains. Just a few weeks ago, this collaboration helped neutralise one of the most wanted terrorists in the world.

There is still so much to be done, especially in the area of security, which is why it has been one of the biggest areas of recent focus for the President. In addition to investments that will strengthen security and intelligence capabilities, welfare and morale, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to be the Nigerian President who accomplishes the long-awaited fundamental restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture at its very roots.

One of the most practical manifestations of this reform is the establishment and implementation of State Police – reordering a longstanding system so that the security and safety of our communities emerges organically from within, instead of being imposed from far away.

In August 2023, President Tinubu handed me a mandate as Nigeria’s Minister overseeing the information and national orientation portfolio. We have worked very hard to advance the Ministry’s priorities: restoring credibility to public communications, amplifying the government’s policies and programmes, putting our national values back on the national agenda, creating a more enabling environment for the media industry, and modernising technology and talent in our public information systems.

Last November Nigeria received the formal affirmation from UNESCO to host a first-of-its-kind International Media and Information Literacy Institute in Abuja. And next month, we will usher in one of the biggest technology leaps ever seen by Nigeria’s broadcast industry – the completion of the long-delayed transition from analogue to digital.

Through partnership and dedication, we have successfully leveraged satellite technology to break a decades-long jinx, and Nigerians will see the impact on their television screens starting next month: a surge in the quality of content, transmission, and competition.

There is much more to highlight than space will permit, but the message is clear and irrefutable: President Tinubu and his administration have boldly confronted Nigeria’s toughest challenges, and the country is emerging victorious on all fronts.

We will not slow down or rest – instead we will double down to advance the gains until they cannot be reversed or undone.

The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, LSPHCB, has said infection prevention and control, IPC, measures remain firmly in place across the state’s primary healthcare centres.

Its Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Mustafa, gave the assurance in following reports of a new COVID-19 case in Cross River State.

Mustafa emphasised that Lagos had not relaxed its guard, noting that protocols introduced before and during the COVID-19 pandemic had continued to be enforced in all primary health facilities to curb the spread of infectious diseases.

“We cannot say COVID-19 has completely left us. What has changed is that vaccination has improved immunity, making most infections milder and less likely to result in severe outcomes,” he said.

He credited widespread vaccination and booster doses for strengthening herd immunity, significantly reducing transmission and severity of the virus in the community.

“Many residents received multiple doses during the peak of the pandemic, contributing to increased population-level protection.”

However, he disclosed that COVID-19 vaccines were currently out of stock nationwide, stressing that efforts were underway by the federal government to secure additional supplies.

“We had vaccines before, but they have been exhausted. The government is working to replenish stock, and once available, the public will again have access,” he said.

Mustafa emphasised that IPC protocols, originally intensified during the pandemic were a routine part of healthcare delivery and extend beyond COVID-19 to cover a wide range of infectious diseases.

Core measures being enforced in PHCs include regular hand hygiene, use of alcohol-based sanitisers where running water is unavailable, and mandatory mask use for individuals showing symptoms of respiratory infections.

Healthcare workers are also required to adhere to strict clinical hygiene practices, including the use of gloves on a per-patient basis and proper disposal after each use to prevent cross-contamination.

“Hand washing before and after patient contact is critical. These are simple but effective measures that protect both health workers and patients,” he said.

While infrastructure and supplies for IPC are largely in place, he acknowledged the need to strengthen compliance and awareness among both healthcare workers and the general public.

He warned that lapses in basic infection control practices could increase vulnerability not only to COVID-19 but also to other communicable diseases, including bacterial and viral infections.

“COVID-19 brought IPC into the spotlight, but these measures are for all infections. We must continue to reinforce them to safeguard public health.”

Mustafa also pointed to Nigeria’s high level of internal and cross-border movement as a persistent risk factor for disease transmission, noting that Lagos, as a major economic hub, remains particularly exposed.

With continued population movement and the possibility of new cases emerging, he emphasised that sustained vigilance and improved public awareness were critical to preventing future outbreaks.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to maintaining strict infection control standards, underscoring that preparedness remains crucial to protecting residents’ health.

Cross River State government on Tuesday confirmed a fresh COVID-19 case, years after the World Health Organisation, WHO, declared an end to the global emergency phase of the virus.

Its Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, said the index case, a 53-year-old Chinese national who worked in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state, arrived in Nigeria on March 17.

He later developed symptoms of the disease and tested positive for it.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, confirmed the case, saying it had been isolated and managed according to standard protocols.

“The patient is in stable condition and responding to care,” NCDC D-G, Dr Jide Idris said.

NCDC further moved to douse public anxiety following the confirmation of the case, maintaining that there are currently no signs of widespread transmission.

“All identified contacts are being followed up appropriately, and there is no evidence at this time of widespread transmission,” Idris said.

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday in Abuja, reaffirmed his commitment to building a stable, peaceful, and prosperous nation, assuring that the well-being of Nigerians remained his top priority.

He stated that the political and economic structures that had long undermined Nigerians’ prosperity were being steadily replaced through the realignment of the economy to enable full participation.

Receiving a delegation of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State at the State House, President Tinubu pledged to sustain reforms aimed at creating more opportunities for poor and vulnerable citizens.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, also attended the event, alongside many governors: Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Mohammed Inuwa (Gombe), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Uba Sani (Kaduna), who also serves as deputy director-general of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors..

A host of former governors, including Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), and Tanko Almakura (Nasarawa), attended, as well as former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, the APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru, zonal coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, directors and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari.

President Tinubu emphasised that the more citizens participated in shaping their lives and future, the better society would be for generations to come.

He urged the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to continue sensitising and mobilising citizens, especially at the grassroots, on the government’s efforts to improve their livelihoods through economic reforms.

“You represent the conscience of a nation that wants to break the shackles of poverty and hopelessness,’’ he said.

President Tinubu assured that the administration would uphold the tenets of democracy, including the rule of law, the separation of powers and the rights of all citizens.

“We cannot submit to disobedience of a lawful order of the court; we must embrace the judiciary, whether it favours us or not. We submit to this principle of democracy, separation of powers, and understanding of the dynamics of it, and the nationhood that Nigeria is, that we must build one country. That’s what Renewed Hope is all about. You must give them that hope.

“There’s no other path for us to attain national greatness other than to build one common vision for the progress and prosperity of our people. That is what we must do,’’ he added.

He reiterated that his government was guided by a clear vision to foster inclusive growth, create opportunities for youth, and ensure that every Nigerian — regardless of background or region — had a stake in the country’s future.

He encouraged citizens not to be discouraged by the misinformation championed by the opposition elements in the country.

He said the great accomplishments witnessed in modern times were achieved through visionary leadership, assuring that Nigeria is in safe hands.

To the opposition, he said: “They want to scare me off? It’s a lie. I’ve been through this path before. And if I have to come back over and over and over again, I’ll do the same thing. There is no better place than your own country. And no one can build it except you. We saw great things, skyscrapers. We wonder how the plane takes off and flies us from one destination to another. There was no magic of yesterday. It is the thinker of tomorrow and the future that can elevate life, that can reform us all.

“And being the transformative leaders that you are, you are in good company. Don’t be afraid. I’ve listened to you. I didn’t have to look back on the economy because the truth is, I took over from myself. The late Buhari was me. He was my partner. And if I took over from him. Is that not from me? So, if something is wrong, fine. Live with it, correct it, move on. The life voyage is not going to be easy. I can only stand before you and say you will not regret it. That is why we ask you to renew their hope. If they don’t want to see the hope and the roads and bridges, and the children we raise, the economy we are growing, we shall lend them Jigi-Bola, eyeglasses. One thing that you need from me is a promise that I won’t run away from the affair. With you, the deal is done.”

Turning to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, President Tinubu promised to be their greatest champion.

“We act as one family. You represent a conscience, a nation that wants to break the shackles of poverty, ignorance, and hopelessness. You are in a good company. That’s all I can say. And all I can promise is I won’t give up.”

Earlier, the Director–General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA)and Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, said they were at the State House to update the president on the progress made so far.

“Our purpose in coming is to brief Mr President on how far we have gone with this national assignment, to present the substance of the work already done, and to reaffirm that the structure you graciously created is not only alive but active, coordinated, and already creating measurable political and civic dividends across the nation.

“At the regional level, activities have begun in earnest. All the structures of all the local governments have been inaugurated, as in the electoral wards.

“We have kick-started the process of enumeration up to the polling unit level. We are continuously harvesting data during enrolment, taking the messages to the markets, schools and professional groups, women’s platforms and faith-based and grassroots political structures,” Governor Uzodimma said.

He lauded President Tinubu for his purposeful leadership and assured him of their loyalty and commitment to the success of the assignment.

The North-West Zonal Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, commended the courage and political sagacity of the president, describing him as a dogged reformer despite the teething difficulties being experienced.

“We know very well that reformers are always finding it extremely difficult at the beginning, more especially, if you are reforming in a society that is very difficult to understand, and some are willing to make people not understand,” Masari said.

Masari commended the president for taking hard but necessary reforms that leaders before him could not, saying that Nigeria had become better for it.

He assured the president that most political heavyweights in the North-West Geo-Political Zone were solidly behind the All Progressives Congress, APC, stating that the struggle for a better Nigeria is for all to undertake.

He assured that the North West leaders had resolved to take a tour of the numerous federal projects in the zone to create greater awareness among citizens.

“You have done so much, Mr President, but don’t allow noise makers to distract you. Your bashings are not for you alone. Even your detractors know that you have done well.

“Will anyone come tomorrow and say he will reverse the removal of fuel subsidy or return the nation to multiple foreign exchange rates?”, Masari said.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, lauded President Tinubu for the infrastructural revolution across the nation, enabled by the several reform programmes of his administration, as attested to by state governors.

Former Governor Okowa, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Governors Uba Sani and Biodun Oyebanji also delivered goodwill messages at the meeting.
