										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Orizu Ifeanyi Arthur, while attempting to board an Air France flight 844 from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja to Paris, France for ingesting 74 wraps of heroin and cocaine.</p>
<p>Orizu was arrested at the boarding gate of the Abuja airport on Sunday, December 22, 2024 during the outward clearance of passengers on Air France.</p>
<p>When he was pulled aside for body scan, he turned down the request claiming his medical condition won’t allow him.</p>
<p>He was thereafter taken into custody for excretion observation during which he excreted a total of 74 wraps of the Class A drugs over a period of seven days.</p>
<p>In his statement, Orizu claimed he owns a shop at Balogun market, Lagos Island, where he sells school and travelling bags, adding that he was promised 3,000 Euros upon successful delivery of the consignment in Paris.</p>
<p>He left his base in Lagos for the Abuja airport to connect his Air France flight to Paris, hoping to escape detection.</p>
<p>In another interdiction effort, operatives of the Marine Command of NDLEA at 2:30 a.m. on Christmas eve, Tuesday, December 24, intercepted two boats loaded with 1,960 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud, a strong strain of cannabis at the Eleko beach in Lekki area of Lagos.</p>
<p>Six foreign nationals who brought the consignments from Ghana were arrested during the operation.</p>
<p>They include: two Ghanaians: Godsway John, 38; and Freedom Kelvin, 33; as well as four Beninese: Chegoun Hounsou, 23; Gadabor Nyameto, 47; Adantg Sasa, 34; and Ayao Kayivi, 21.</p>
<p>In Katsina, a suspect, Ibrahim Shaibu, 35, was arrested in possession of 40 album-size parcels of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 35kg on Christmas day 25th December at Central Motor Park, Katsina, while another suspect Umar Ahmed, 47, was nabbed along Zaria-Malumfashi road, Katsina with 27 parcels of same psychoactive substance weighing 13.5kg on Saturday 28th December.</p>

<p>A 21-year-old suspect Kosisochukwu Ozigbo was arrested at new Lagos road Benin City, Edo state when the area was raided on Monday 23rd December by NDLEA operatives. Recovered from the suspect include: 32,490 pills of tramadol 225mg, 200mg and 100mg; 936 bottles of codeine-based syrup and various quantities of other opioids.</p>
<p>The commands across the country balanced their drug supply reduction operations with War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, advocacy campaigns to schools, markets, worship centres and communities.</p>
<p>Some of these include WADA sensitisation lecture delivered by Lagos State Strategic Command in collaboration with Menitos Foundation to residents of Akoka community at Ayetoro primary school, Akoka Bariga; while the Adamawa State command of NDLEA delivered same lecture to members of Jama’atul Nasril Islam during their annual first aid group and leadership camping in Adamawa among others.</p>
<p>While commending the efforts of the officers and men of NAIA, Katsina, Edo and Marine Commands of the Agency for job well done in the past week, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) tasked them and their compatriots nationwide not to rest on the achievements of 2024 but continue to raise the bar in their offensive action against drug barons and cartels with an equal measure of WADA sensitisation campaigns in the new year.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted 22 blocks of heroin weighing 23.55kilograms concealed in packs of Nestle Cerelac baby food at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos.</p>
<p>The consignment with a street value of over N4.5billion came from Johannesburg, South Africa on board South African Airways flight on Wednesday 29th June as part of a consolidated cargo that arrived the SAHCO import shed of the Lagos airport.</p>
<p>After series of follow up operations that led to the arrest of two freight agents, the actual receiver of the drug consignment, Chike Okeke Eweni, who distributes the substance for his South Africa based partner was arrested the following day, Thursday June 30, at a logistics warehouse in Ajao Estate, Ikeja.</p>
<p>Chike who hails from Anaocha local government area, Anambra State, claims during preliminary interview that he was also into fish farming.</p>
<p>Before the arrest of Chike, NDLEA officers at the airport had on Monday, June 27, arrested a former driver with a public transport company, BRT, Muyiwa Babalola Bolujoko, for ingesting 90 pellets of cocaine.</p>
<p>He was arrested at the screening point before boarding a Qatar Airways flight enroute Doha to Sharjah, with his trip expected to terminate in Dubai, UAE.</p>
<p>The 39-year-old from Ijebu South local government area, Ogun State, was placed under excretion observation after body scan result confirmed drug ingestion.</p>
<p>While in custody, the suspect excreted all the 90 pellets in four excretions.</p>
<p>He claimed he left his N60, 000 per month job as BRT driver in February and decided to work as drug courier to raise funds to buy a shuttle bus popularly called Korope in Lagos to continue his transport business.</p>
<p>Operatives also on Thursday, June 30, intercepted an inbound consignment of khat leaves, which arrived the NAHCO import shed of the Lagos airport on Royal Air Maroc flight from the Middle East.</p>
<p>A total of 71 cartons of dried khat leaves with a gross weight of 2,434.3 kg were discovered in the cargo.</p>
<p>In the same vein, anti-narcotic officers of the agency also last Thursday seized 36 parcels of Colorado, a variant of cannabis with a total weight of 19.30kg which arrived the NAHCO import shed from Los Angeles, US on a Delta Airlines flight.</p>
<p>After series of follow up operations in which four persons were arrested, the actual owner of the drug consignment, Abibu Afis Sola, was eventually nabbed on Friday, July 1, in Gbagada area of Lagos.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, in Rivers State, NDLEA operatives on Wednesday, June 29 arrested a 68-year-old woman, Mrs. Celina Ekeke at Obunku community, Oyigbo local government area with 231.2kg cannabis, while one Shedrack Eze, was arrested the following day Thursday 30th June at Yankarfe, Zaria, Kaduna State with 250,000 tablets of Exol 5, weighing 75kg.</p>
<p>In Borno State, Usman Haruna, 27, was arrested at BCG checkpoint in Biu on Saturday, July 2, with 19.7kg cannabis.</p>
<p>Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has expressed satisfaction with the exemplary performance of the officers and men of the MMIA command in the past week while also commending those of Rivers, Kaduna and Borno for being vigilant.</p>
<p>He charged them and others across the country to remain steps ahead of the tricks by the desperate drug cartels.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Fresh consignments of cocaine and heroin with a combined weight of 16.85 kilograms worth over N4.9 billion in street value have been seized at the Apapa seaport and Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, both in Lagos by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.</p>
<p>Four persons are currently being investigated for the 13.65kg Cocaine seized on board a ship, MV Karteria, that came into the Apapa port from Santos, Brazil on Sunday, November 7, barely three weeks after 32.9kg of Cocaine was intercepted at the port on another vessel, MV Chayanee Naree, also from Santos, Brazil.</p>
<p>In well coordinated follow up operations, no fewer than five persons have been arrested in different parts of Lagos and Delta State in connection with the seizure of 3.200kg Heroin found on a passenger, Christian Osondu at the E- Arrival hall of the MMIA, on Friday, November 5, during the inward clearance of Air Peace flight passengers from South Africa.</p>
<p>A swift follow up operation same day led to the arrest of one Ude Onyeka Victor, at Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos.</p>
<p>Ude Onyeka confessed that his elder brother, Ikenna Ude, who is based in South Africa, had instructed him to collect the bag containing the drug and hand over to another person who was supposed to come from Delta State.</p>
<p>A second follow up operation led to the arrest of Abanjo Innocent who came to Lagos from Delta State to pick the bag containing the drug around Cele Bus stop, Okota, on Saturday, November 6.</p>
<p>He also confessed that he was contracted by one Oseki Chinedu, who is based in South Africa to travel to Lagos to collect the bag and bring it to Agbor junction, Delta State.</p>
<p>The third follow up operation led to the arrest of Ihator Theophilus Isioma at Agbor Junction, Delta State on Sunday 7th November.</p>
<p>In Bayelsa State, NDLEA operatives on Saturday, November 13, arrested one Obeluo Emeka from Anambra West local government area of Anambra State with 600 grams of Heroin.</p>
<p>The suspect who is a motor spare parts dealer based in Douala, Cameroon had arrived Yenagoa by waterway to waybill the substance to an undisclosed address in Lagos.</p>
<p>Not less than four suspects were arrested and different quantities of cocaine, cannabis, tramadol and Methamphetamine seized from them during weekend raids at Rumuokoro, Elelenwo and Omagwa/Elele communities in Rivers state.</p>
<p>Those arrested include; Elizabeth Iniama; Sir King Emmanuel; Godgift King; and Amadi Bright.</p>
<p>A total of 18.51kg of assorted illicit drugs were recovered on Saturday, November 13, when operatives raided a neighbourhood of Bayan Gari, and Sir Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi town, Bauchi State where two suspects; Mr. Gabriel Iwagbunan and Ms. Cecilia Ezena were arrested.</p>
<p>While 23-year-old Hadiza Ibrahim was arrested on 12th November along Okene-Lokoja highway with 54kg of cannabis, one Sunday Nnam (a.k.a Idowu) was nabbed same day in Emene area of Enugu with 45kg of same substance.</p>
<p>In the same vein, one Umar Muhammad was arrested with 25,700 capsules of Tramadol weighing 15.1kg in Tudun Hatsi area of Gombe.</p>
<p>In Ogun State, following credible intelligence, two suspects &#8211; David Oduku, and Ifeanyi Raphael &#8211; were intercepted along Ore- Shagamu Expressway with 364.98kg of cannabis being conveyed in a blue Toyota Sienna bus, while two suspects &#8211; Buhari Jamiu and Ajibola Jimoh &#8211; were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, November 14, with 189kg of cannabis at Olorunlagba, Bode Saadu area of Kwara State.</p>
<p>While commending the officers and men of Apapa port command and MMIA as well as their counterparts in Bayelsa, Rivers, Bauchi, Kogi, Enugu, Gombe, Ogun, and Kwara states for sustaining the maxim of offensive action against drug cartels in the country, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) charged them and their colleagues in other commands to remain vigilant at all times.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A major drug dealer wanted for attempting to export 69.65kilograms of cocaine, heroin and cannabis to the United Kingdom through the NAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos, has been arrested at a church in Ojodu, Ikeja area of Lagos State.</p>
<p>Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, had traced the wanted drug dealer, Stephen Afam Ikeanyionwu, on Sunday 15th August, 2021, to a popular pentecostal church at Mike Ajari Street, Ojodu Berger, where they arrested him soon after he stepped out of the church service.</p>
<p>His arrest followed the interception of a consignment of illicit drugs weighing 69.65kg going to the UK through the Lagos airport on Thursday, 12th August, 2021.</p>
<p>The illegal baggage had been sent to the airport for export through a freight forwarding company, which in turn gave a driver to deliver at the NAHCO export shed.</p>
<p>Following the arrest of the driver, follow up operations and investigations later revealed the true identity of the actual owner of the consignment, Stephen Afam Ikeanyionwu, who was arrested three days later in a sting operation.</p>
<p>Also at the Lagos airport, NDLEA operatives arrested an Italy-bound passenger, Abibu Miminu, during the outward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airways flight to Italy via Addis-Ababa for ingesting illicit drugs. While under observation at the Agencys facility between Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th August, 2021, the trafficker excreted 68 wraps of heroin in three excretions, all weighing 800grams.</p>
<p>In the same vein, narcotic officers of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigation have intercepted at two courier companies in Lagos 840 grams of Methamphetamine going to Australia and concealed in bolts; 340 grams of Meth hidden in locally made footwears and also going to Australia; 1kilogram of cocaine coming from Ghana with UK as destination and concealed in four local guitars.</p>
<p>Also seized from one of the courier firms is another 480grams of Meth concealed in footwears and going to Australia.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, a South Africa returnee, Obi Chigozie Samuel, was also last Sunday arrested at the Lagos airport during the inward clearance of Ethiopian Airlines from Addis-Abbaba, for importing 58grams of skunk into Nigeria.</p>
<p>During preliminary interview, he admitted ownership and claimed to be a cannabis smoker.</p>
<p>In strings of operations in Edo, Ondo, Kaduna, Kano and Kogi states, at least 2,504.8 kilograms of diverse illicit drugs were seized from multiple suspects in the past week.</p>
<p>In Kogi, 60-year-old Mrs Comfort Uzor was arrested with 62.1kg cannabis on Tuesday, 17th August, 2021 in Lokoja, where one Dayyabu Usman was also caught with 8kg of same substance.</p>
<p>While Uzor sourced hers from Bolorunduro in Ondo State and was heading to Abuja, Usman got his from Lagos and was taking it to Kano for sale.</p>
<p>In Kaduna State, operatives of the Birnin Gwari area command of the agency raided the home of one Mr Joseph Sunday at Ungwa Pama, Kaduna, where they recovered 48.3kg of cannabis from his room following credible intelligence.</p>
<p>In Edo State, NDLEA officers on Tuesday, August 17, stormed Ugbuwe forest in Ovia North East local government area, where they seized 146 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 2,044 kilograms, while in Kano State, one Ikechukwu Aleke was arrested with 30,000 tablets of Tramadol 225mg and 99 bottles of Codeine syrup, in addition to the arrest of one Muktar Muhammad, with 370 bottles of Codeine cough syrup, weighing 60.4kg, as well as 900 tablets of Rohypnol.</p>
<p>Also arrested in Kano was Sufiyanu Abubakar, 24, with 400 plastic bottles of Codeine cough syrup weighing 52kg as well as one Mutta Hassan Wada, who specializes in using courier firms to send drugs to a recipient in China, using cooking spices bottles for concealment.</p>
<p>In Ondo State, over 77.5kilograms of cannabis and monkey tail were intercepted on Saturday, August 21, at Odigbo town in Odigbo local government area, where operatives arrested one Basiru Ijiniga.</p>
<p>Also arrested on Saturday was Ibrahim Umaru in Sabo area of Akure South local government area.</p>
<p>Recovered from him include different quantities of psychotropic substances like Diazepam, Tramadol, Swinol and Rophynol.</p>
<p>Reacting to the strings of arrests and seizures in the past week across some states and the MMIA, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the officers and men of the various commands for their unrelenting commitment to the presidential mandate to clear Nigerian forests and communities of illicit drugs in whatever form.</p>
<p>“We have all laid our hands on the plough, there’s no looking back, no retreat or surrender and as such I urge all our officers and men to intensify the ongoing offensive action until the last gram of illicit drug is taken away from merchants of death,” Marwa stated on Sunday.</p>
