NDLEA’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, made this known on Sunday in a press statement.

He said the cocaine consignment with a gross weight of 2.80 kilogrammes was intercepted on Thursday, 9th April 2026, by NDLEA operatives attached to the export shed of the Lagos airport while two cargo agents involved in the export bid – Ama Obinna Ufeim, 33, and Ogabi Monday Akorede, 39 – were swiftly arrested.

Further investigation, he said, revealed a 52-year-old freight and forwarding agent, Agoro Tajudeen Moninuola, as the sender of the consignment and he was arrested in a follow-up operation.

In a similar operation, NDLEA officers at the import shed of the Lagos airport on Wednesday 8th April intercepted a consignment of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, with a gross weight of 2.90 kilogrammes and concealed in snack food packs, which arrived from the United States of America aboard a Delta Airlines flight.

Two cargo clearing agents – Animashaun Moshood Adetunji and Mercy Gabriel Oluwasegun – were initially arrested in connection with the seizure before the consignee, Saheed Adeshina Adegoke, a 29-year-old fashion designer, was nabbed in a follow-up operation at 3 Oba Ogunji Road, Ogba, Lagos, on Monday 13th April.

In Kaduna, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Kaduna-Zaria Highway by Gwargwaje Zaria on Monday 13th April intercepted a trailer conveying cement heading to Hadeja in Jigawa state.

A search of the truck led to the recovery of 760 blocks and 33 jumbo bags of skunk, a strain of cannabis, weighing 847 kilogrammes.

The truck driver Umar Garba Haruna, 33, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

A 53-year-old female suspect, Alice Sunday Udoh, was arrested on Thursday, 16th April, when NDLEA officers supported by soldiers raided a forest in Uwet community, Akamkpa local government area, Cross River State, where 15,000 kilogrammes of skunk on six hectares of farmland were destroyed and 119kg of same substance recovered.

Another cannabis farm was raided on Tuesday 14th April at Saboro camp, Ovia North East local government area of Edo State where NDLEA operatives destroyed 2,281.43kg of same psychoactive substance, while three suspects – Nweke Smart, 27; Christopher Egbe, 62; and Monday Ayan, 45 – were arrested, with the duo of Christopher and Monday caught with 38.5kg cannabis and its seeds.

Two suspects – Sunday Odili, 49, and Ijenebe Joshua, 39 – were nabbed with 87.838kg skunk and seeds at Powerline area of Okwo, Delta State on Friday, 17th April.

In Lagos, two suspects – Chinedu Ogbekene and Zindozin Aloukou Bienvenu – were arrested on Wednesday 15th April at Mile 2, Lagos/Badagry expressway while conveying 11,900 capsules of tramadol and 400 ampoules of phenobarbital injection in a truck to Ghana.

Same day, NDLEA operatives raided a two-storey building at Petti, Lagos Island, where a total of 95.8kg skunk was recovered.

With the same zeal, commands and formations of the agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, sensitization activities in schools, worship centres, work places and communities among others in the past week.

These include WADA enlightenment lecture for students and staff of Alfurgan Islamic School, Paiko, Niger State; Edgerly Memorial Girls Secondary School, Calabar, Cross River; Heritage Model School, Ankpa, Kogi; Government Day Junior and Senior Secondary School, Kankia, Katsina; Government Senior Secondary School, Rano, Kano, and De Ambassador Secondary School, Epe, Lagos State, among others.

While commending the officers and men of MMIA, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Kaduna, and Lagos commands of the agency for the arrests and seizures, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) noted their drug supply reduction efforts balanced with WADA sensitization activities while he charged them and their compatriots across the country to maintain the current tempo.

Mr Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Haruna, who did not state reasons for the postponement, said the decision was taken at the commission’s meeting in Abuja.

“Following deliberations, the commission resolved to postpone the exercise until after the 2027 general election,” he said.

He described voter revalidation as a critical component of INEC’s mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters.

According to him, the exercise is designed to verify and review existing voter records, ensure the accuracy of personal data, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the integrity of the voter register.

He added that it would also provide registered voters the opportunity to confirm their details and make necessary corrections where required.

Haruna reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.

The commission also disclosed that it would cease all dealings with any faction of the party pending the determination of a substantive suit before the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Mohammed Haruna, stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that the court resolved to maintain the status quo in the leadership dispute within ADC.

This, according to him, is in compliance with the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/145/2026: Senator David Mark v. Nafiu Bala Gombe & Ors.

He said that the decision was taken, after a careful review of the Court of Appeal’s judgment delivered on March 12 and the ongoing case before the Federal High Court, Abuja.

According to Haruna, INEC had earlier received separate letters dated March 16 from two law firms representing different interests in the party.

He noted that Suleiman Usman SAN & Co., writing on behalf of concerned stakeholders within the ADC, cautioned the Commission against recognising Nafiu Bala Gombe as Acting National Chairman while the matter remains before the Federal High Court.

He said that on the other hand, Summit Law Chambers, acting for Gombe, urged the commission to enforce the Court of Appeal’s judgment by ceasing recognition of Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.

He recalled that the letter also sought the removal of Mark group’s names from INEC’s portal and refraining from dealing with them.

He further noted that in another letter dated March 27, Summit Law Chambers alleged that INEC had disobeyed the Court of Appeal’s orders by inviting Mark’s group to a political parties’ meeting and by monitoring a purported National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened by the group.

Haruna recalled that in its judgment, the Court of Appeal dismissed the interlocutory appeal filed by Mark and directed that the parties must maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit before the Federal High Court.

He added that the court also ordered an accelerated hearing of the case in view of the Electoral Timetable and warned parties against taking any steps that could prejudice the matter before the trial court.

He said that INEC observed that the current NWC of the ADC emerged from a NEC meeting held on July 29, 2025 following the resignation of the previous executive committee led by Mr Ralph Nwosu.

He said that the commission also observed that Gombe, who was national vice chairman, maintained that he did not resign and that by virtue of the party’s constitution, he should assume leadership following the resignation of the chairman.

“He subsequently filed Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025 on 2nd September 2025, seeking orders to restrain Sen. Mark’s group from parading themselves as party leaders and to compel INEC to recognise him as acting national chairman,” he said.

INEC also noted that the names of the current NWC led by Sen. Mark were uploaded to its portal on September 9, 2025 following a request received on September 4, 2025.

Haruna said that after considering the judgment and all relevant processes, the Commission resolved to maintain the situation as it existed before September 2, 2025, when the suit was filed.

He said that the commission also resolved to refrain from taking any action that could undermine the proceedings before the Federal High Court.

He disclosed that INEC declined the request to allow Gombe to take over the affairs of the party pending the court’s decision.

He noted that INEC would not receive further communication from, or deal with, any of the contending groups on matters relating to the party’s affairs.

It added that it would not monitor any meeting, congress or convention convened by any faction of the ADC until the case is determined by the Federal High Court.

He stated that in line with the directive to maintain the status quo, the commission would remove from its portal the names of the current National Working Committee members led by Mark.

He reiterated INEC’s commitment to neutrality, impartiality and strict compliance with court orders, and urged political parties and stakeholders to act responsibly so as not to disrupt preparations for the 2027 General Election.

The commission announced this in a statement by the national commissioner and chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, on Friday in Abuja.

Haruna said that instead of the April 21 deadline, political parties now have until May 10, but not later than 21 days before the holding of their respective primaries.

He said that the decision was reached following the commission’s meeting with the political parties on Tuesday.

He said that the parties raised concerns on the timeline for the submission of political parties’ registers of members under the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.

Haruna said that the commission agreed to adjust the period for the submission of the membership register to align with the 21 days prescribed by Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act, 2026.

Haruna added that the new actual dates were fixed by political parties themselves.

“Political parties are accordingly informed that they are free to fix the dates of their primaries within the approved period from the April 23 to May 30. It is imperative that parties adhere to this timeline to ensure a smooth electoral process.

“The register of party members must be submitted to INEC not later than 21 days before the holding of their respective primaries.

“This means that the final deadline for the submission of political parties’ registers of members is extended to May 10, from April 21 originally contained in the revised Timetable,” he said.

Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, acting Media Information Officer for Headquarters, OPWS, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Makurdi.

Zubairu said that the suspects were arrested on 26th March in Agasha, Guma local government, during their pre-wet season operation.

The spokesperson stated that the troops who acted on intelligence swiftly cordoned the area and arrested Mr Sule Ibrahim and Mr Salmanu Risko, both from Nasarawa State, as well as Mr Abdulkareem Haruna from Jos, Plateau.

“Items recovered during the operation include one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, twenty-seven rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, a cutlass, ten sachets of alcohol, and assorted charms.

“The suspects are in troops’ custody for preliminary investigation and subsequent prosecution by the appropriate authorities,” he said.

He said the troops had continued to maintain an aggressive operational posture across the area, dominating the environment to deny criminal elements freedom of action and to enhance security ahead of the farming season.

Zubairu added that OPWS Commander Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara had commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and continued sacrifice in safeguarding law-abiding citizens in their areas of responsibility.

The arrest was made known in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Wednesday in Ibadan.

”The tragic incident was reported at the Ago-Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters, by one Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri area of Oyo State.

”The suspect, allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head, and fled the scene immediately,” he said.

He said the victim was promptly rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital, Sepeteri, for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.

“Upon receiving the report, a team of Police Operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ago-Amodu Division, visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of preliminary investigative procedures.

“The suspect has since been arrested and has confessed to the crime. He is currently cooperating with investigators,” Olayinka said.

Olayinka quoted Oyo State  Commissioner of Police, Mr. Femi Haruna, of directing that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.

The commissioner assured the public that justice would be pursued diligently and in accordance with the law.

Under the new schedule, presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027.

Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will follow on Saturday, February 6, 2027.

The revised timetable was issued on Thursday in Abuja and signed by INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan.

INEC had previously fixed national elections for February 20, 2027, and state polls for March 6, 2027.

The earlier dates were announced in February pursuant to the Electoral Act, 2022.

Malam Mohammed Haruna said the adjustment followed the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022, and enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026.

Haruna, national commissioner and information committee chairman, said the new law altered key statutory timelines.

He said INEC reviewed and realigned its activities to ensure full compliance with the new legal framework.

“Accordingly, the Commission has resolved as follows: Presidential and National Assembly Elections will now hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027.

“Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections will now hold on Saturday, February 6, 2027,” he said.

Haruna said party primaries, including dispute resolution, would begin on April 23 and end on May 30, 2026.

He said submission of party membership registers would take place between April 1 and April 21, 2026.

Nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates will be submitted from June 27 to July 11, 2026.

Governorship and State Assembly nomination forms will be accepted from July 18 to August 8, 2026.

INEC will publish particulars of nominated national candidates on August 1, 2026.

Particulars of state candidates will be published on August 29, 2026.

The deadline for withdrawal or replacement of national candidates is August 22, 2026.

For governorship and State Assembly elections, the withdrawal deadline is September 19, 2026.

The final list of national candidates will be published on September 12, 2026.

The final list of state candidates will be released on October 10, 2026.

“Presidential and National Assembly campaigns will begin on August 19, 2026.

“Governorship and State Houses of Assembly campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.

“As provided by law, campaigns shall end 24 hours before election day,” he said.

Haruna urged political parties to adhere strictly to the timetable, warning that INEC would enforce compliance.

He said the revised timetable was available on INEC’s official website and other communication platforms.

INEC also rescheduled the Osun Governorship Election from August 8 to August 15, 2026.

“The commission notes that some activities in respect of the Ekiti and Osun Governorship Elections have already been conducted.

“However, the remaining activities will now be implemented strictly in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026,” Haruna said.

He said the revised dates were consistent with the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Haruna described the successful conduct of the elections as a collective responsibility.

He called on stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring peaceful, credible and inclusive elections reflecting the sovereign will of Nigerians.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan.

Olayinka said the police officer was killed while repelling the attack, adding that some of the abductors sustained gunshot injuries.

“There was an attack at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, where unidentified gunmen stormed the facility in a commando-style operation.

“One police officer tragically died while repelling the attack, injuring some assailants, and the Chinese expatriate principal was abducted,” Olayinka added.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, ordered the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Operations to lead anti-kidnapping and tactical teams to the scene.

According to him, bush-combing operations are ongoing, while investigations continue to rescue the victim and arrest those responsible.

The commission disclosed this in a statement by Malam Mohammed Haruna, Chairman, Information, Voter Education and Publicity Committee, in Abuja on Monday.

Haruna said that the commission, at its Monday extraordinary meeting, reviewed its preparations for the end-of-tenure Area Council election for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, fixed for February 21.

He added that the commission also considered and approved the draft timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of by-elections into Ahoada East II and Khana II State Constituencies of Rivers.

He noted that provisions of Section 116 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) empowered the commission to fix dates for elections and conduct by-elections for vacancies.

Haruna said that arising therefrom, it had fixed February 21, 2026 for the conduct of the elections into the two state constituencies.

“The vacancy in the Ahoada East II Constituency arose as a result of the resignation of its member while that of Khana II resulted from the death of its member.

“The Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly had since notified the commission of the existence of the vacancies.

“By the Commission’s decision today, the notice for the two elections will be published on January 22, 2026, while political parties will conduct their party primaries, including the resolution of disputes arising from the primaries, between January 23 and January 27, 2026.

“Parties and candidates will then commence their campaigns on February 8, 2026 to end on February 19. The elections will hold on February 21, 2026.”

The portal was unveiled at a press conference to flag off the digitization of the agency’s Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System, DITViCAS, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) declared that the symbolic launch signified “a paradigm shift in our fight against the scourge of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, a moment where enforcement meets efficiency, and commitment merges with cutting-edge technology.”

Marwa who was represented by the agency’s Secretary, Shadrach Haruna, said in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the agency had maintained an aggressive, balanced, and uncompromising approach to tackling the scourge of illicit substances, with focus on two critical fronts: Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction.

“For years, the process of obtaining an NDLEA Visa Clearance Certificate, required by certain source and transit countries, has been characterized by documentation, physical appearances, and lengthy verification cycles. This manual process was no doubt prone to human interference, delays, and a host of other issues.

“With the flag-off of the Online Visa Clearance Portal today, we are bringing an end to those bottlenecks. The system delivers automation across all processes and operations associated with the administration of the Drug Integrity Test and Visa Clearance with interfaces for effective collaboration with partner agencies.

“It is also important to note that we have made provision on the system for private medical centres to partner with the agency as accredited centres for Drug Integrity Test. The system brings efficiency, flexibility and convenience to the process. Following this ceremony, applicants for Drug Integrity Test and Visa Clearance can now apply from home and choose any preferred location and book a date convenient and available for both applicant and the desk officer of the NDLEA without having to go and wait the whole day at the NDLEA office.

“With the E-Certification and Verification system, it also eliminates drug and visa clearance certificate falsifications and establishes the reliability and transparency of the process with supervisory dashboards across our commands, formations and at the headquarters.

“The extension of the service to students of tertiary institutions, and others is to significantly foster drug demand reduction across the country without any attempt to stigmatize any student or anyone, while our rehabilitation and counselling centres are open for those who test positive to ensure that no one is left without care.”

Speaking further on the essence of the platform, the NDLEA boss explained that “the portal integrates sophisticated background check protocols, ensuring that the certificate remains a robust security instrument that safeguards Nigeria’s international reputation and prevents drug syndicates from exploiting legitimate travel channels. This is a commitment to the Nigerian citizen: a commitment to stress-free, integrity-driven public service delivery.

“All applicants need to do is logon to the portal (www.drugandvisa.ndlea.gov.ng), create an account and apply from anywhere and book appointment at any available centre for either Drug Integrity Test or Visa Clearance, while the system generates drug test certificates on the spot as the desk officer completes the testing process and reports the result, with the Visa Clearance process completed within three days or maximum a week in peculiar circumstances.”

He said the agency’s primary mission was to save lives, hence its advocacy for the Drug Integrity Test founded on a principle of prevention, rather than punishment, adding that it was an early-warning system designed to help individuals who might be experimenting with substances, giving them an opportunity for intervention and treatment before dependence set in.

According to him, “This new digital portal allows institutions, organisations, and individuals—including parents and prospective couples—to apply for drug integrity tests seamlessly. It provides a verified, standardized, and secure process for testing and issuing certificates. It is a non-judgmental pathway designed to support our national drive for Demand Reduction, fostering healthier communities, safer workplaces, and a more secure national labour force. This is the future of our War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign—proactive, compassionate, and data-driven.

“This initiative is a proof that the NDLEA is committed to leveraging the power of technology to combat the evolving complexities of drug trafficking and abuse. It is part of a broader strategy to digitize all our operations, ensuring our processes are modern, secure, and world-class. The war against drug abuse is one we must win for the sake of our youth, our families, and the future of our nation. With technology as our ally, we are better equipped, stronger, and more resolved than ever before.”

He urged all stakeholders to embrace the new change and utilize the new platform fully because its success is a shared responsibility.
