Mrs Joyce Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communications in the state, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Jos.

Ramnap said that the move followed a Sunday night attack by gunmen on Angwan Rukuba community of the area.

The attack, she said claimed some lives and left others injured.

”The Plateau Government in conjunction with the security agencies have imposed a 48-hour curfew within Jos-North LGA.

”The curfew will run from midnight of Sunday, March 29 to Wednesday, April 1,”she said.

The commissioner, who condemned the unprovoked attack on innocent citizens, called on residents of the area to be calm and law abiding.

She assured the people that the government and security agencies had adopted measures to forestall future occurrence and arrest perpetrators.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 10:00 p.m. when the armed men ambushed the officers at the entrance of the company.

The NSCDC personnel were escorting five Chinese expatriates back to base following a routine patrol.

A source disclosed that the officers were members of a security team attached to the cement factory.

During the ambush, the assailants—armed with sophisticated weapons—opened fire on the convoy, killing eight NSCDC operatives and one civilian.

Thanks to the swift response of the Corps, four of the expatriates were rescued unhurt, the source said, adding that one expatriate was reportedly abducted.

The source added that four other NSCDC officers sustained injuries and were currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

According to the source, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Gbenga Agun, has since visited the scene of the incident as well as the injured officers in hospital.

When contacted, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Edo, Efosa Ogbebor, declined to comment, stating that a formal statement would be issued by the Corps’ national headquarters.

Three students of the seminary were also reportedly  abducted during the attack, which occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Confirming the incident, the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, said that was the second time in 10 months that the school had come under attack.

He said the diocese strongly condemned the incident and expressed deep concern over the repeated targeting of the catholic institution, its personnel, and facilities.

“We are deeply saddened and condemn in the strongest terms this act of violence,” Egielewa said, describing the persistent attacks as troubling and unacceptable.

“This is the second time in 10 months that the school has been attacked. Ten month ago, a priest was kidnapped.

“And now three seminarians were abducted and a civil defense corps is killed, while a local vigilante sustained gun injuries.

“We hope the security agencies at the local, state and federal level to take up the responsibility on that, so our people can be in peace and safety,” Egielewa said.

DSP Ayanlade Olushola, the command’s spokesperson made the disclosure while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Akure.

Olushola, who said that the command had deployed all its tactical team to the affected community, urged residents not to take laws into their hands, and allow the security agencies to perform their lawful duty.

According to him, the command had mobilised all the needed resources to the affected area to ensure that the perpetrators were arrested and face the full wrath of the law.

“Yes, three farmers were killed by gunmen, and tactical teams have been deployed to the area to restore order and apprehend the assailants.

“So, security agencies are in place to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the area. The command urges all law abide citizens to go about their business without any fear,” Olushola said.

It was gathered that the victims were ambushed on the way to the farm and shot dead on Tuesday morning while riding a motorcycle.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene after the killing.

The command’s spokesperson, SRC Ngozi Ahula, confirmed the development in Makurdi on Thursday.

Ahula said the officer, currently serving in Wannue, Tarka local government area was abducted at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

She said the officer was abducted in his country home in Tse Aboh, Uchi-Mbakor in Tarka local government area, shortly after returning from a late cousin’s wake.

According to her, the armed men fired gunshots to scare his family members and neighbours before taking him away.

A source in the community said that the community youths immediately launched a search throughout the night but the gunmen were fast gone.

The source said that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the neighbourhood also joined in the search operation.

It was further learnt that the victim might have been moved to a kidnappers’ hideout in neighbouring Guma local government area of the state.

An eyewitness, Mr Akin Olowolafe, a farmer in the community, told newsmen on Thursday in Akure that five people were allegedly killed during the attack, which happened on Tuesday at about 3 p.m.

Olowolafe said the gunmen entered the farmlands while people were working and started shooting sporadically in the air, which resulted in the death of five farmers.

According to him, the gunmen usually attack the farmlands on a daily basis around the community, and it had made life unbearable for farmers.

“Many farmers in the community have fled their farms for fear of being killed. The attacks are unchecked while there is no intervention from the appropriate authorities.

“The incessant clashes and destruction of farm crops are so worrisome and it has led to boycotting of farms by farmers in the area,” Olowolafe said.

Also, a labourer, Mr Fidelis Daniel, who corroborated the story, said that the corpses had been deposited at the mortuary.

“I was inside the farm too when the incident happened, I just heard the sound of guns, and I immediately ran to my house.

“It was even God that saved me too, they would have killed me.

“They suddenly came with weapons to destroy our crops and killed five people. Three people from Plateau and two from Kaduna State,” he said.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, however, denied the number of casualties.

“There was an attack on the community, and police is still investigating, but I cannot confirm the number of people that were killed,” the PPRO said.

The incident caused damage, including shattered show glasses and a glass door.

Policemen were seen at the scene of the incident, as the deceased’s vehicle was towed away.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the killing in Makurdi on Thursday.

Anene said the deceased was shot at about 8.00 p.m. on Wednesday outside his home on Otukpa Street, Otukpo, Otukpo local government area.

“Yes, he is my call mate and the current NBA Secretary of the Otukpo Branch. I was with him in the hospital until he finally gave up the ghost early this morning (Thursday).

“He was attacked at the gate of his house when he came back from work and was about to be driven in.

“Seven gunmen shot him several times and even cut his hand with a machete.

“He died at the Federal University of Health Science Teaching Hospital, Otukpo while receiving treatment, at about 1.40 a.m.

“We deposited his remains in the mortuary of the same hospital,” he said.
