Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, on Tuesday said it was often hard to find the right words at a time like this for someone who had lost a beloved person, noting that losing mothers was one of the deepest sorrows for man.

The governor prayed for peace, comfort, courage and love for Funke, his immediate siblings, the Adebanjo and Akindele families as they go through a most difficult period of mourning of the dead.

He said: “My heart goes out to Funke, friends of the Adebanjo and Akindele families on the demise of their daughter, mother and grandmother, Dr. RB Adebanjo-Akindele, who answered the ultimate call today, Tuesday 7th of February, 2023.

“Death of loved ones, whenever it happens, is usually a very painful episode but we must be consoled by the good life lived by the deceased person. We should relish in the beautiful memories the dead left behind for us.”

The governor urged the PDP deputy governorship candidate, to be comforted by the good life that her late mother lived and continue to pray for the repose of Dr. R.B. Adebanjo-Akindele.

“On behalf of my family and the good people of Lagos State, I hereby express my heartfelt condolences to the entire families and friends of Adebanjo and Akindele. May God grant the soul of the departed eternal rest and the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

“Battle on Buka Street”, the highly anticipated comedy-drama movie by Funke Akindele, on Sunday night premiered to a select audience at the FilmHouse, Landmark Centre, Lagos.

The movie is set for its cinema release on December 16.

The movie highlights the typical street lifestyle and follows a food challenge that will focus on who wins the crown as the “King of buka street”.

The cast and other stars from the industry, including Funke Akindele; Femi Adebayo; Nkem Owoh; Mercy Johnson and Sola Sobowale graced the red carpet adorned in beautiful cultural attire.

The premier was also graced by the Lagos State governorship candidate of the PDP, Mr Olajide Adediran, known as Jandor.

Also in attendance were Mr Macaroni; Uti Nwachukwu; Kunle Afolayan; Peter of PSquare; Bolanle Peters; Reekado Banks and Nkechi Blessing among others.

On the red carpet, some cast members shared their experiences working on the movie set.

Speaking about the new movie, Akindele said, “I‘m telling a story about celebrating our culture and food.

“Battle on Buka Street is a story about two women who found themselves at loggerheads when they set up a food business on the same street, causing commotion and rivalry between their families.

“I’m excited about the movie, a young guy called Jack owns the original story, he is a newbie in the entertainment industry and the talents we showcased on ‘Battle on buka street’ are young fresh talents.

“Nollywood should get ready for the new faces. Working with the young people has touched my life, so, anytime I hear they have something new to work on, I quickly jump on it and support them.

“All I want to preach on ‘Buka street’ is to celebrate our culture, food, and also celebrate oneness, unity in the family, state and country.

“The cultural essence is ensuring that we bring everybody together; there is no segregation; no discrimination; and no tribalism. Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa coming together. Just preaching unity in Nigeria.

“The fans should look out for celebrating our culture, our food, unity and also make them entertained.”

Sola Sobowale, who said she played the role of a mother in the new movie, commended industry players in Nollywood for their consistency.

‘Battle on buka street’ has continued to show that Nollywood has the best of players and makes best of the best.

“Our industry players are dogged, resilient creative artistes who, against all odds, have grown a solid industry over the years.

“Also, corporate organisations and individuals are investing in Nollywood. Netflix can be considered as the most recent game changer in the industry.

“It offers Africans, especially the ever ambitious and overwhelmingly creative Nigerians the opportunity to create cultural contents.

“Nollywood films are continuously breaking box-office records, challenging Hollywood films in Nigerian cinemas.

“Filmmakers as well as filmmaking are professionalising and becoming more cognizant of the role of film beyond entertainment and profit maximisation,” she said.

The National Mandate Group, NMG, a support team of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has carpeted Rivers State’s Governor Nyesom Wike for meddling in Lagos politics by openly endorsing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term.

Vexed by Wike’s declaration, the Lagos State Coordinator of the NMG, Alhaji Wahab Sadiq, described the Rivers governor as a “meddlesome interloper.”

Wike, who visited Lagos as a special guest at an event organised by the wife of the state’s governor, had described Sanwo-Olu as a performer who deserved a second term and whose re-election would be a walkover.

Expressing aversion to the PDP Rivers governor’s action, however, the Lagos NMG coordinator, said: “What Wike came to do in Lagos is clearly anti-party and a sacrilege. It amounts to an act of gross indiscipline from someone we have always regarded as a strong pillar in PDP.

READ ALSO: It’s waste of time contesting against Sanwo-Olu in Lagos -Wike

“Wike presented himself as a meddlesome interloper in Lagos. What has Wike got to do with Lagos politics? What has he contributed to Lagos PDP in the past? Lagos PDP has never benefitted from him nor relied on him during elections. We never needed his endorsement in Lagos State. APC will use and dump him and his eyes will become clear.”

Sadiq said that the victory of PDP in Lagos was a foregone conclusion because Lagosians had decided to reject the mediocrity they had suffered since 1999, when the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, first became governor and turned himself into the Alpha and Omega in the state.

The Lagos NMG coordinator said: “We restate our commitment to the victory of the esteemed PDP Governorship Candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, and his beautiful running mate, Ms. Funke Akindele-Bello, alias Jenifa.

“Jandor is coming and 1,000 Wikes cannot save Sanwo-Olu. Let Sanwo-Olu and Wike take that to the bank.

“The truth is that Lagosians want a change. This is an oppressive government and people want to be free of 22 years of the rule of one man, using all the instruments of coercion, oppression and electoral rigging to capture and treat Lagos like a conquered territory.”

There is a big chance that I do not know what I am talking about here and it happens fairly often. I am not ashamed to say I talk a lot of BS. But I think that even when plied with a potent liquor cocktail, there is no chance of me saying that Funke Akindele has anything resembling political capital. As yet, at least.

My assessment of the actress, celebrity and serial brand ambassador rests on my view of her as having not had any sort of presence on the political circuit before now, let alone some virile structure behind her. She might have had some involvement here and there prior to now, but such is not known to me and, I presume, many others. As such, when the streets started tipping her as running mate to the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, I put the rumour in the same category as football transfer tittle-tattle.

Like Akindele, Dikeh’s political footprints were, if they existed, not prominent, at least not as much as the X-Rated details of her romantic liaisons, which supplied critics a cache of ammo to fire at her.

Well, it was not. She was, a few days ago, announced as running mate to the candidate and, in addition, to instant and vicious derision. A few weeks before she appeared in the gunsights of critics, her professional colleague, Tonto Dikeh, had been the sitting duck. Like Akindele, Dikeh’s political footprints were, if they existed, not prominent, at least not as much as the X-Rated details of her romantic liaisons, which supplied critics a cache of ammo to fire at her.

What Dikeh got was not on the same scale with what is currently going Akindele’s way, without any hint of a let-up. This, I think, is because she is a point or two behind Akindele on the celebrity chart and that she is on a platform which, at best, is no higher than a footstool. Akindele is on the ticket of the main opposition party and victory for the ticket will put her a heartbeat away from the governorship of a state that is, economically, one of the jewels in the country’s crown.

It is a safe bet that Dikeh is relieved that Akindele has deflected bullets from her and that both women would have compared notes. Akindele’s almost oven-fresh marital collapse, complete with tit-for-tat allegations of sexual infidelity by both parties in the marriage, is sending furnace-level heat in her direction. Funke, at this time, is not feeling funky and, most probably, in a funk.

Both women provide vivid hints of how the public perceives entertainment (and sports) celebrities, who stray into politics. Musicians and actors, despite being more likeable-on the surface-than traditional politicians, have a hard time persuading the public they qualify to be in politics. Women find it much harder and I think it is not difficult to know why. Entertainers have been and are still in politics, with some of them recording successes as legislators. The public, however, is unconvinced that they qualify to be anywhere near executive positions for reasons that are logically obscure, I have to say.

Many entertainers in politics and outside of it have the same or higher level of education than their mockers, who seem to think that full-time and freelance chancers with money and minimum educational qualifications are more qualified. Many entertainers have also seen more of the world than, say, successful plank sellers with the crudest of minds. In addition, they have skills required in their fields and outside of such (including building/managing successful business enterprise) as well as grit.

There is a general belief that something as serious as politics is beyond the ken of entertainers, who are misguidedly advised to stick to what they know best. I would think that success in any field, be it law, medicine, engineering, literary/visual arts, administration et al, should recommend anyone for political office-if they have got the stomach for it.

Akindele’s almost oven-fresh marital collapse, complete with tit-for-tat allegations of sexual infidelity by both parties in the marriage, is sending furnace-level heat in her direction.

But that does not seem enough for those in entertainment. Women in entertainment, as stated earlier, are bigger victims by a country mile. They are, almost by default, perceived as lacking in moral worth, cultural capital and viewed as excessively corporeal. Their celebrity status tends to be seen as a product of luck or sexually transmitted rather than through know-how and hard graft. I suspect that even with her doctorate degree, Helen Paul, the popular comedienne, will get a generous dose of snideness if she wanders into the political arena. Ali Baba and Gbenga Adeyinka the 1st will be dismissed as cartoon characters despite their educational qualifications and success as professionals. But the dismissal will be on a considerably lower scale because of their gender. The dim view of entertainment celebrity involvement in politics, I think, is the product of the ways values are assigned from field to field. If entertainment was dispensable, I do not think those in the field would have people paying to watch them perform, while oohing and aahing.

I will not dismiss the possibility of entertainment and sports celebrities being unaware that celebrity capital is not easily exchangeable for political capital, a state of affairs that provokes derision when they declare political bids. But that is not exclusive to people in their trade and makes the prevalent assumption that entertainment celebrities are uneducated about politics and society unfair, as many are passionate about the subject and want to see the right changes made.

We sure need to be cured of this ailment. Urgently.

Akindele, who was unveiled by the Lagos State PDP on Tuesday at a carnival-like event that had the party’s candidates, leaders and members in attendance at Ikorodu, said her decision to join Adediran, popularly known as ‘Jandor’ was a huge sacrifice.

While expressing delight in the ticket, Akindele said she had abandoned her passion and career of 14 years in order to bring positive change to Lagos residents.

“Jandor has sacrificed a lot talking about young people passionately for over seven years to plan this project, abandoning his business to make a change in the state.

“So, I am going to put aside my career now, I am coming out for the women, the youths, we have talents in Nigeria, we need to explore what we have.

“We have both made sacrifices to join politics to bring positive changes to the people of Ikorodu and the state.

“We should build a state where our children can live rather than running and staying abroad.

“I am joining Jandor to bring a breath of fresh air to Ikorodu and Lagos,” she said.

Akindele, who noted that she initially ran away when nominated for the ticket, said God and the people promised to be behind her.

“I answered the call. We are the owners of Lagos, we will vote, win and rule the state.

“For the women, I am going there for you. For the youths and the children, I am there for you. We can do a lot for this state and country and make things work.

“We are youths, we can run, we have energy to fix Lagos State. For my Ikorodu people, I thank you, I will not put you to shame. PDP is taking over,” Akindele added.

Akindele said she joined the race to help tackle infrastructural, health system and standard of education challenges in the state.

Presenting the flag of the party to Akindele, Mr Philip Aivoji, the Lagos PDP chairman, said that it was time for PDP to take over leadership in the state.

“When the time of a thing has come, no one can cover it. By the power of God, we have come to light up Ikorodu and all parts of Lagos State.

“By the Grace of God, victory is ours and it is certain in 2023,” Aivoji said.

He expressed hope that Adediran-Akindele’s ticket would rule the state for four years and when residents see their performance, they would not hesitate to reelect them for another term.

Speaking, Adediran, the 44- year-old PDP candidate said that his running mate was his age mate with passion to improve the condition of lives of residents.

Adediran said that both of them were already accomplished in their careers and had managed businesses and human beings before agreeing to bring a positive change to the people of the state.

“We have brought a breath of fresh air to the people of Lagos. My deputy is a brand that will connect to both the grassroots and the people in the cyber space.

“Formally, I want to present to you what we have Christened a Breath of Fresh Air. It is a clear departure from the norm,” Adediran said.

In spite of the persistent rainfall, a huge number of PDP stalwarts and members gathered at the venue to uneveil the star actress.

See women celebrating Funke Akindele sending her husband out of the house. They think it’s great. Reverse the story today and hear the same women.

Humiliating a man is now a great achievement – Woman power! If I say anything now, they’ll label me.

Meanwhile nobody is sparing a thought for those two beautiful children. It doesn’t matter that they’re denied the pleasure of growing up in a stable home of father and mother and what they’ll likely turn out as a result.

Meanwhile nobody is sparing a thought for those two beautiful children. It doesn’t matter that they’re denied the pleasure of growing up in a stable home of father and mother and what they’ll likely turn out as a result.

Of course, money will take care of anything. Buy them toys. Get them video games. Take them on holidays abroad. They’ll suffice for broken home! That’s the new world – the world of feminism – world of women!

Let Funke enjoy her freedom just like her sister, Tiwa Savage. Who says her fans won’t like to watch some salacious videos in future as well?

Indeed, these are dangerous times! We shan’t stop talking – The Tiny Voice!

Rap artiste, Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as “JJC Skillz”, has announced separation from his actress wife, Funke Akindele-Bello, after six years of marriage.

JJC Skillz took to his official Instagram page, @jjcskillz on Thursday to announce this.

He said the last two years of their lives had been extremely difficult, adding that they were now pursuing separate lives.

He wrote: “Dear Friends and family, I need to let you know that Funke and I have separated. While it lasted, we shared a lot of things together and have created two beautiful children.

“The last two years have been extremely difficult for us. I know I have tried my best to fix things but I believe it is beyond repair now. Months ago and at Funke’s insistence, I moved out of the house and apart from AMVCA, have not been able to get Funke to sit down in an amicable manner to discuss the future of our relationship.

“I am making this announcement so that the public is clear that we both are pursuing separate lives. We still have issues that need to be addressed such as the custody and wellbeing of our children which is paramount as well as business interests which need to be disentangled but I have no doubt that these will be resolved one way or the other.”

JJC Skillz, however, locked comment section of the post.

The couple gave birth to twin boys in December 2018.
