The men, suspected to have been terrorising Ode-Remo of Ogun State, were arrested on March 13, 2023.

The suspects – Habeeb Salaudeen, 24; Ezekiel Jayesimi, 30; Olamilekan Teniola, 22 and Olaitan Sonibare, 25 – were arrested following a distress call received by policemen attached to Ode-Remo divisional headquarters at about 2:30 a.m. that armed robbers numbering about seven had invaded a dwelling house at COTCO Road, Ode-Remo, and dispossesing the residents of their belongings.

According to the spokesman of the police command in Ogun State, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Ode-Remo division, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi, led his men to the scene.

On getting there, they engaged the hoodlums in gun battle, but the robbers managed to escape in a white Rav 4 car which they came with.

Luck, however, ran against them when they were accosted by policemen at Warewa who stopped them having seen the bullet hole on their vehicle.

The robbers subsequently abandoned the car and ran away.

They were technically trailed to Mushin area of Lagos where four amongst them were apprehended.

They have all confessed to the commission of the crime.

Recovered from them are four I-phones and 13 Android phones.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.

The CP also ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang, with the view to bring them to justice.

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have rescued a journalist, Oduneye Olusegun, who was kidnapped by some gunmen at Mobalufon area of Ijebu Ode on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

The journalist was rescued on Saturday, the spokesman of the police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said.

The journalist, who was coming from Abeokuta was said to have been kidnapped at Mobalufon area in his Toyota Camry car at about 7:50 p.m.

The kidnappers, the police spokesman said, later called his wife through his (victim’s) phone the following morning and demanded N30 million as ransom.

He said upon the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba directed the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Obalende divisional headquarters, SP Murphy Salami, in whose jurisdiction the incident happened to ensure the safe rescue of the victim.

In compliance with the CP’s directive, the DPO was said to have mobilised his detectives and embarked on technical and intelligence based investigation of the incident.

Their efforts paid off when the Toyota Camry of the journalist was traced to Idimu area of Lagos, where the kidnappers were hibernating, waiting for the ransom.

No fewer than 27 persons have been arrested by the police in connection with the attack on two banks at Sagamu area of Ogun State on Monday.

The violence was said to have been caused by the difficulties experienced following the cash crunch in the country.

According to the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, led the police teams and some military men to tackle the situation.

He said normalcy had been restored.

It was gathered that the protesters who had earlier gathered in front of the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, set up barricades on major roads thereby disrupting the free flow of traffic.

They later attacked the two commercial banks at Ijoku in Sagamu destroying properties.

A youth leader in the town, Mr Kayode Segun-Okeowo, described the act as a “motivated destruction and not a protest.”

“This is not a protest. I’m a comrade and I understand the ABC of protest. It’s motivated to cause destruction.

“Those behind this must stop,” he told newsmen.

Segun-Okeowo also confirmed that two commercial banks were vandalised by the protesters.

Lekan Adekanbi, the prime suspect in the murder of the ex-Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, staff, Kehinde Fatinoye, his wife Bukola and son, Oreoluwa, has revealed why and how they carried out the devilish act.

The suspect was said to have made the confession to the Ogun State Police command during an investigation after his arrest along with his accomplices – Ahmed Odetola (a.k.a Akamo) and Waheed Adeniji (a.k.a Koffi).

According to the spokesman of the police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement made available to FrontPage on Friday, Adekanbi, who is said to be popularly known as Koroba spearheaded the murder along with the two others.

The reason for the murder, Adekanbi was quoted as saying, was because the deceased for whom he worked as a driver did not increase his salary and did not grant him a loan to purchase a motorcycle.

He said they decided to murder the three persons since they had recognized him, Adekanbi, in the course of the attack.

The statement giving some details about the attack as issued by the police spokesman reads:

“On interrogation, Lekan Adekanbi who has been the couple’s driver since 2018 confessed to being the mastermind of the dastardly act. He stated that he invited the other two suspects Ahmed Odetola (a.k.a Akamo) and Waheed Adeniyi (a.k.a Koffi), to come and join him in order to rob the couple.

“He confessed further that he took the step because the couple refused to increase his salary, and that he approached them for loan to buy motorcycle, but they didn’t oblige him.

READ ALSO: BREAKING: Suspected killers of ex-CBN staff, family arrested

“He stated further that on that fateful day, himself and his two accomplices waited for the couple to come back from crossover service since he had access to the house and they pounced on them immediately they entered the house.

“When asked why the Alsatian dog in the house did not attack them, he stated that the dog was very familiar with him being the person who always fed it.

“Having got hold of the couple, they forced the husband, Kehinde Fatinoye to transfer money from his account to “Kuda” bank account of Ahmed Odetola, but the transfer failed. It was then Lekan Adekanbi gave the deceased his own Access Bank account to which the sum of N1,102,000 (One million one hundred and two thousand) was transferred at gunpoint.

“Since Lekan realised that his identity had been known through his bank account, he decided with others to terminate the life of the couple, consequent upon which Waheed Adeniyi (a.k.a Koffi) took a knife from their kitchen and slaughtered the husband, Kehinde Fatinoye, while Lekan Adekanbi used sledge hammer he purposely brought for the operation to hit the wife, Bukola Fatinoye, on the head and she died on the spot.

“While the operation was going on, the only son of the deceased, Oreoluwa Fatinoye, and their adopted son, Felix Olorunyomi, walked in and the hoodlums pounced on them too, tied them with rope and drove them to Ogun River Bridge at Adigbe where they threw the two of them into the river.

“Luck however smiled at Felix Olorunyomi when the rope on his hand loosened and he was able to swim out of the river. But Oreoluwa was not that lucky as his dead body was recovered the following day.

“Waheed Adeniyi (a.k.a Koffi) and Ahmed Odetola (a.k.a Akamo) were both apprehended at Ogere on Thursday 9th of February 2023.

“The three suspects who are members of Aye confraternity have all confessed to their various roles in the gruesome and callous murder of the family.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police, CP Frank Mba has ordered the suspects be charged to court as soon as possible.”

The Fatinoyes were murdered on January 1 at their Abeokuta, Ogun State residence.

While the Kehinde Fatinoye was an ex-CBN staff, his wife, Bukola was a staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Ogun State.
