The troops also recovered arms, ammunition and rustled livestock during the operation.

This is contained in an operational report made available in Abuja on Friday.

The report revealed that troops of the 17 Brigade, on Friday, carried out the operation following intelligence on the movement of a terrorist kingpin, Muhammed Filani.

The report said troops made contact with the terrorists and overpowered them, leading to the neutralisation of two insurgents.

According to the report, items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, 15 magazines, 10 motorcycles, 26 livestock, assorted ammunition, a fabricated grenade, a General Purpose Machine Gun, GPMG, butt, and other military accessories.

“The troops rescued 32 kidnapped victims comprising 10 females, nine males and 13 children during the operation.

“The victims are being prepared for handover to relevant authorities, while recovered livestock will be returned to local custodians,” it said.

The report added that exploitation of the area was ongoing to dismantle terrorist structures in the region.

Army said the operation formed part of sustained efforts to deny terrorists freedom of action and restore security in parts of Katsina State.

A Lagos lawyer, Mr Kayode Oladipupo Filani has refuted news reports linking him to a court order over forfeiture of assets traced to the former Nigerian Army Properties Director, Major General Mohammed Umar.

Filani, who exhibited the order of court, said neither he nor his company was listed in the court proceeding and wondered how his name could have featured in news stories that went viral.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu had on August 26, 2025 granted a forfeiture order traced to the former Army Director wherein names of 26 companies and shares allegedly belonging to the former director were listed.

None of the companies belonged to Filani.

His name also did not appear in the court papers.

But mysteriously, the name featured in media reports.

Reacting to the news reports linking his name to the final forfeiture, Filani said: “My name was not mentioned, so I wonder why it had to be smuggled in. However, I remain unshaken because God is on his throne, and whoever might have masterminded the inclusion of my name will not go unpunished. I don’t own any of the shares in any of the listed companies. It was just a failed attempt to malign my name.”

The Commissioner for Health in Ekiti State, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, says no fewer than 800,000 babies die of poor breastfeeding yearly across the globe.

Filani said this at a news conference to commemorate the 2020 edition of the breastfeeding week on Thursday in Ado Ekiti.

According to him, poor breastfeeding was largely responsible for the high infant mortality rate in the country.

He, however, noted that the incident was gradually being checkmated following the advent of exclusive breastfeeding and improved medical practices.

The commissioner said Ekiti was rated as having 55.4 per cent compliance with the first six months exclusive breastfeeding policy it initiated in 2019.

He said that the improvement in the state was due to the proactive action taken by Governor Kayode Fayemi in terms of increased sensitisation.

“Findings have shown that investing in breastfeeding will prevent 13 per cent of child deaths and morbidity of 90 per cent of mothers who exclusively breastfeed their infants, for the first six months of life.

“Globally, only 38 per cent of infants are exclusively breastfed and suboptimal breastfeeding contributes to 800,000 infant deaths globally on annual basis.

“So, any baby who is exclusively breastfed for the first six months without any formula, has fewer ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and bouts of diarrhoea and has fewer hospitalisations and trips to the doctor.

“It is so significant that it has helped to remove the myth and unacceptable use of herbs and concoctions for neonate and young children,” he stated.

Filani added that exclusive breastfeeding, aside reducing the rate of child mortality, would also rake in an estimated sum of $150 million into the country’s economy yearly.

The commissioner noted that as part of the policy that would enhance adequate care for infants in Ekiti, six months had been approved for maternity leave for female civil servants.

He added that the government was also considering granting paternity leave to the male civil servants, to make both parents responsible for the care of their newborns.

Filani then appealed to mothers to refrain from unwholesome cultural practices, mandating giving of water and other fluids to newborns and embrace exclusive breastfeeding.

He added that that would assist in boosting the baby’s immunities, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality rates in the system.
