The Kano State Controller, FFS, Sadiq Usman-Mahmud, disclosed this in a statement signed by the service’s Public Relations Officer, Al-Hassan Kantin, on Saturday in Kano.

He said the service received a distress call at about 1:58 p.m. on Friday from a concerned member of the public, prompting a swift response from the Federal Secretariat Fire Station.

“Upon receiving the report, we immediately deployed a team of firefighters from the Federal Secretariat station to the scene.

“The incident involved a two-storey commercial building covering an estimated area of about 50 by 50 metres.

“On arrival, the fire had affected the ground floor. We successfully quenched the affected section to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building and surrounding properties,” he said.

The controller said that the fire outbreak was suspected to have been triggered by a defective solar installation.

Usman-Mahmud added that property worth N100 million was lost, confirming that no life was lost.

He said: “No casualty was recorded, and firefighters conducted a thorough inspection to ensure that there is no further risk of fire.”

The controller urged the public to ensure that solar installations were carried out by qualified personnel and inspected regularly to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

He also advised the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report any signs of fire or electrical faults.

The appointment was announced on Wednesday on behalf of the federal government by retired Maj.-Gen Abdulmalik Jubril, Secretary to the Civil, Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, CDCFIB.

Jubril said that the appointment followed the retirement of the current CG, Abdulganiyu Jaji on August 13.

The board expressed appreciation for Jaji’s dedication and commitment to service, just as it stated that he (Jaji) would be retiring upon attaining the age of 60 on August 13.

He further said that the new CG was qualified having attended and passed all mandatory in-service trainings, command course as well as other courses within and outside the country.

“He brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having transferred his service from the FCT Fire Service to the Federal Fire Service and grown to the rank of DCG in the Human Resource Directorate of the Service Headquarters.

“He has served in various capacities and is equally a member/fellow of the following professional associations including Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN; Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria and Chartered Institute of Treasury Management of Nigeria,” he said.

The announcement is according to a statement signed by Mrs Aisha Rufai, Secretary to the Civil Defence, Immigration and Prisons Service Board (CDIPB) on Tuesday, in Abuja.

Jaji was the Deputy Controller General, DCG, in charge of Administration and Supplies at the FFS before his appointment as CG.

He is taking over from Acting Controller General Samson Karebo, who took up the mantle of leadership after former Controller General, Ibrahim Liman, bowed out of service.

According to the report, the newly appointed CG commenced his career at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing as Higher Technical Officer in 1991.

“He held several positions in the ministry before his redeployment to the Federal Fire Service in 1999.

“He was born on the 13th August 1965 to the family of Alhaji Umar Olola Jaji in Ilorin, Kwara State.

“He holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering obtained in 1999 and he is married with children,” it read.
