The human rights group, Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has called on Nigerians to embrace Federal Government’s initiatives towards promoting entrepreneurship instead of searching for white collar jobs.

The group made the call on Monday in a statement issued by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on the occasion of Maolud Nabiyy

MURIC also felicitated with the head of the Nigerian Muslim community, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar on the occasion of 2019 Maolud Nabiyy.

MURIC congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari too for witnessing the occasion and for his visionary and exemplary leadership.

The group also wished all Nigerians a Happy Maolud Nabiyy.

The statement reads in part: “We are indeed elated by the purpose driven leadership style of President Muhammadu Buhari. We single out various empowerment programmes initiated by his administration which offer economic opportunities for different classes of Nigerians. Equally laudable is the president’s successful investment drive with foreign countries like Russia, China, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

“We condemn in very strong terms attempts being made by critics and the opposition to whittle down President Buhari’s achievements particularly cynic’s criticism of the president’s trips to foreign countries. These criticisms are manifestations of kindergarten political mentality. It is quite obvious that the Nigerian opposition groups need to enrol in the institute of forward-looking political ballgame.

“Instead of running round in circles looking for white collar jobs or embarking on suicidal trips across the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea, we urge Nigerians to embrace FG’s empowerment programmes. The advanced facilities which Nigerians crave in Europe and America were not produced by an indolent citizenry or a cynical labour force. They are products of dogged industry.

“Sitting down idly and waiting for manna to fall from heaven via endless visitations to miracle centers and asalatu grounds will not bring the change we need. We must embrace the philosophy of ora et labora by combining work with prayers.

“Prophet Muhammad whom we are celebrating today hated laziness with a passion. He toiled relentlessly as a youth and worked harder even after marriage. He condemned beggary and encouraged hardwork. This is why Nigerian Muslims in particular and other citizens have no business begging around or remaining idle when the opportunities offered by FG are there just for asking.

“Many Nigerians have been bitten by the lazy citizenry bug. The government initiated several empowerment projects and asked them to register free. Government is giving land free. Government will open the land free. Tractor work is free. They are giving seedlings to plant free and soft loan to every registered Nigerian. The icing on the cake is that there is no interest and no collateral for the loan. This is unprecedented in the history of this country. Yet enemies of progress ignore these golden opportunities. All they do is complain of poverty and hunger. It is our contention that those who refuse to take opportunities deserve whatever befalls them.

“As we round off, we urge Nigerians to emulate Prophet Muhammad’s philosophy of the dignity of labour. In view of FG’s aggressive economic empowerment for citizens and investment partnership with foreign countries, we invite Nigerians from all strata of society to avail themselves of the opportunities. This is the only way to turn the country to a nation of producers after being a consumer state for so long.”

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has felicitated with Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

In a statement on Sunday signed by Mr. Yomi Odunuga, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Omo-Agege particularly charged Muslims to emulate the life of the Prophet (SAW).

The lawmaker representing Delta Central Senatorial District stated that it was only by so doing that unity and peace could be attained.

He was upbeat that the important Islamic ceremony of Eid-el-Maulud would help to promote religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence and mutual harmony among all Nigerians.

“Prophet Muhammad preached peace, truthfulness, faithfulness and he eschewed all vices including corruption and bitterness. Muslims should stick to his preachings. The Prophet was a complete man of peace,” he said.

Senator Omo-Agege wished Muslim faithful and indeed all Nigerians a glorious Eid-el Maulud.

Also, the Deputy President of the Senate has congratulated elder statesman, Alhaji Mamman Daura, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

In a congratulatory message personally signed by him, he described the octogenarian as a “pillar of strength and inspiration to many.”

The message reads: “I heartily rejoice with you as you cross yet another milestone to become a truly distinguished octogenarian – a fountain of inspiration and wisdom to many individuals from all walks of life.

“In a continent where being elderly inspires reverence and where foreign ‘experts’ put life expectancy at a few decades less, reaching such milestone along with the accrued experiences over the years means a lot to family, friends and the society.

“The focus, humility and strength of character that you have built over the past decades during which you traversed the Civil Service, Journalism and the Banking System have helped to make you a formidable pillar of support for our nation’s dear President in handling historically weighty issues of the State.”

Omo-Agege prayed God to grant him more productive years ahead.

As Nigerian muslims celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, a day to celebrate the birth of Holy Prophet Muhammad, prominent Nigerians have sent messages of goodwill to muslims in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

In general, they preached peace and called on Nigerians to remain united.

Some of the messages are from the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In a message by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki preached unity and tolerance on the occasionof the Eid-el-Maulud.

He urged Nigerians to use the opportunity of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday celebration to show love to one another and imbibe the virtues of perseverance and restraint.

Saraki charged Nigerians, particularly Muslims to always emulate and promote the virtues of Prophet Muhammad which include honesty, love for others and peaceful co-existence.

His words: “He, Prophet Muhammad preached and lived for peace and was revered and widely followed for his honesty and perseverance.”

The Maulud, he said, would not have come at a better time than when the country was about to conduct elections.

“This year’s Maulud has come at the most appropriate time for Nigerians to use it in praying for peaceful, free, fair and credible elections.

“In all our campaigns, let us strive to live by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad among which is to show respect for one another, irrespective of our political affiliation,” he said.

In his message, while congratulating muslims on the occasion, Okowa called on all to offer prayers for peaceful conduct of the 2019 general elections.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, in Asaba on Monday, the governor enjoined Nigerians, and the people of Delta, especially Muslims, to use the celebration as a period of sober reflection and pray for the peace and unity of the country especially as the nation was entering an election year.

He advised muslims to use the period to reflect on the challenges bedeviling the country and share with one another, to spread the virtues of peace, love and charity which the Holy Prophet represents.

He enjoined Muslims to follow the exemplary leadership of the Holy Prophet Mohammed by promoting and ensuring peaceful co-existence within the society.

While urging Nigerians to eschew ethnic, political and religious tendencies in all their dealings, he urged them to work towards building a secured and prosperous nation.

Okowa said the commemoration of the birth of the holy Prophet should regenerate the faith and bond of unity among Nigerians as one people and one nation irrespective of diversity.

“On the occasion of the celebration of the birth of the holy Prophet, it is incumbent on adherents of the Islamic faith to rededicate themselves to upholding the admonitions of the Holy Qur’an in their personal life and in their relationship with others.

“It is therefore a call on all adherents of Islam and indeed all Nigerians to use the opportunity of the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet, who lived a life of piety, prayer, honesty, selflessness, charity, tolerance, good neighbourliness, justice, equity, fairness and service to God and humanity which are indispensable in our quest for meaningful development and the profitable management of our diversity.”

In its message issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP urged Nigerians to use the celebration to pray for the nation and rekindle “our sense of national unity, fear of God and love for one another as compatriots while shunning all divisive and disruptive tendencies.

The party also urged the people to pray for a new direction and God’s guidance, “particularly as the nation gears up for the 2019 general election to select new sets of leaders at various levels across the country.”

The statement reads further: “Eid-el-Maulud, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (S A W), presents to us as a nation with ample lessons in the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, truth over falsehood, peace over strife, love over hatred, piety over depravity, mutual respect over intimidation and harassment, justice over impunity and discrimination and faith over despair.

“The PDP urges Nigerians to use the opportunity of Eid-el-Maulud to reach out and support the needy, the sick, and the deprived, particularly victims of escalated violence and daily bloodletting in various parts of our country in the last three and half years.

“The party also calls on Nigerians not to despair but continue to rekindle their faith in the nation, as the 2019 general election will usher in a new beginning with a new God-fearing and people-oriented leadership that is set to return our nation to the path of social stability, national cohesion and economic prosperity.”
