The police said that suspected suicide bombers allegedly carried out the suicide attacks at 7:24 p.m..

ASP Nahum Daso, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement that preliminary investigations indicated that the explosions were carried out using improvised explosive devices, IEDs, by suspected suicide bombers.

Daso said that the incidents were carried out at the Maiduguri Central Market, popularly known as Monday Market, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital’s gate, and the Post Office Flyover area of the town.

According to him, a combined team of Police Tactical Units, military personnel, and other joint security operatives was swiftly deployed to the affected areas.

The spokesperson said that the scenes were immediately secured and cordoned off, while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, Unit conducted thorough sweep operations to ensure no additional threats remained.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Naziru Abdulmajid, visited the scenes for an on-the-spot assessment and commiserated with victims and their families.

Daso, however, assured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

The spokesperson said that victims were evacuated by emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, to medical facilities for treatment.

Daso said normalcy had been restored in the affected areas, while security had been heightened across the metropolis to forestall further incidents.

The spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and report any suspicious movements or objects to security agencies.

Daso reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.

She added that the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, Unit from Base 13, Maiduguri, was already on the ground conducting necessary checks and assessments.

The incident was sequel to an improvised explosive device, IED, attack by a suspected suicide bomber in Gamborun area of Maiduguri.

DSP Nahum Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Borno Command, made the confirmation in an interview in Maiduguri.

Daso said the suspected bomber detonated an IED at 6:15 p.m. during congregational prayers around Gamborun area.

According to him, five persons died on the spot, while 35 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

He said the injured victims were immediately evacuated to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital  for medical attention.

Daso added that operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, unit, alongside other security agencies, were deployed to the scene to secure the area, conduct checks and ensure that no secondary devices were planted.

He said the area was cordoned off as security agencies commenced investigation into the incident.

The spokesman, however, urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements or objects to the nearest security formation.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said in a statement issued in Maiduguri that the explosion occurred at about 12:40 p.m. behind the Banki Motor Park in Wajari Ward.

He said that at about 1:00 p.m., one Babagana Mohammed of Wajari Ward reported the incident to the police, prompting the Divisional Police Officer in Banki to mobilise personnel and Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, technicians to the scene.

Daso said preliminary investigation indicated that a 12-year-old boy, Mustapha Tijja, sustained serious injuries from the explosion and was rushed to the FHI 360 NGO Clinic in Banki, where he is currently receiving treatment.

He explained that further findings revealed that the injured boy had gone with four of his friends to a makeshift room behind the motor park where the victims were playing with an IED allegedly picked from the bush before it detonated.

The spokesman listed the deceased as Awana Mustapha, 15; Malum Modu, 14; Lawan Ibrahim, 12; and Modu Abacha, 12.

He said normalcy had been restored in the area while investigation was ongoing.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Borno, Mr Naziru Abdulmajid, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and warned the residents, especially children, against touching strange objects or suspected explosives.

He urged the members of the public to report any suspicious items to the nearest police station, providing emergency contacts: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.

The command’s spokesman, ASP Nahun Daso, said in a statement on Friday in Maiduguri that the rescue was achieved as part of the ongoing efforts by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Naziru Abdulmajid, to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

Daso said the incident occurred on Thursday when a report of three missing children was lodged at the Jere Division, prompting an immediate investigation.

He stated that later that day, one of the children was dropped at the entrance of his family home along with a note demanding ₦10 million ransom for the release of the remaining two boys.

He added that on Friday, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Jere mobilised operatives who laid a strategic ambush at the proposed ransom collection point.

“At about 0300 hours, the abductors, upon suspecting police presence, abandoned the two boys and the decoy ransom and fled.

“Due to poor visibility, attempts to arrest the fleeing suspects were not successful,” he said.

Daso said the two boys were rescued unhurt and reunited with their family.

He said the commissioner of police had ordered a discreet investigation to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.

He had also directed all Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to intensify patrols to conduct aggressive stop-and-search operations as well as  sustain high-visibility policing to address the rising trend of violent crimes.

The spokesman urged the residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station, providing emergency contacts: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.

He said the incident occurred on November 22 at about 3:30 p.m.

Daso said the command received information from the District Head of Huyum that 14 girls from Mussa District were abducted by armed terrorists while working on a farmland.

He said that a joint team of police operatives, troops of the Nigerian military, Civilian JTF and vigilantes immediately launched a rescue operation in the area.

“During the operation, one of the abducted girls managed to escape unharmed and was rescued. Search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining 13 abducted girls,” he said.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, as urging residents to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies as coordinated operations continued.

While advising farmers and rural dwellers to operate within the coverage of security patrols and maintain heightened vigilance, Abdulmajid assured the public that further updates would be communicated as the operation progresses.

ASP Nahun Daso, the Borno Police Command, spokesperson, who confirmed this on Saturday said the improvised explosive device, IED, was detonated at a food joint, where the attacker targeted residents who had gathered in a large number to buy food.

Daso said the body of the suicide bomber was severely dismembered by the blast, with only the head recovered from the scene.

“Following the incident, a joint response team comprising the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, Military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters was deployed to the scene,” he added.

The spokesperson said that the area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched for other possible explosive devices, but none was found.

“The injured victims were evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, where they are currently receiving treatment, while the remains of the deceased were also deposited at the hospital mortuary.

“The victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty,” he said.

Daso said efforts were ongoing to profile the victims and contact their relatives for proper identification and burial in line with their religious practices.

He said that security had been reinforced in Konduga and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence.

“The explosion resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, including the driver, while eleven others sustained various injuries. The injured victims have been taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.

“Joint clearance operation between the police and military ongoing.”

Suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated a bomb at a marketplace in Kauri, a rural community in the Konduga area of Borno.

The incident occurred around 9 pm on Wednesday, at the market area, which operates at night every day.
