The National Assembly Service Commission has appointed Mr. Ojo Amos Olatunde as the Acting Clerk, National Assembly.

He replaces Mohammed Omolori, who was retired on Wednesday by the commission.

The appointment of Olatunde was announced in a statement on Friday signed by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Engr. Ahmed Amshi.

The appointment took immediate effect.

Other officers were also appointed.

The statement reads in part: “The National Assembly Service Commission at an emergency meeting held today, Friday, 17th July 2020 has approved the appointment of some senior management staff for the service.

“Those appointed are:

i. Ojo Amos Olatunde – Acting Clerk to the National Assembly.

ii. Bala Yabani Mohammed – Acting Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly.

iii.Dauda Ibrahim El-Ladan – Acting Clerk, Senate.

iv. Patrick A. Giwa – to remain Clerk, House of Representatives pending his retirement in November 2020

v. Yusuf Asir Danbatta – Acting Secretary to the National Assembly Commission.”

It would be recalled that the retirement of Omolori stirred controversy as he complained that he still had more years to spend before retirement.

The controversy stemmed from the resolution of both chambers of the 8th Assembly, which approved a new Conditions of Service for management and staff of the assembly.

The Conditions of Service had extended the retirement age to 65 years or 40 years of service among others.

However, the National Assembly Service Commission rose from its 497th meeting insisting that the civil service rule should be followed.

The rule, the commission said, puts the retirement age at 60 years and 35 years of service (depending on which comes first) for staff of the National Assembly.
